To empty the bees left in the nuc, rather than bump it on top of the hive, bump it hard on the ground then a light shake over the hive usually gets them all and without upsetting the main hive, having said that they look pretty laid back, unlike mine.

Yeah that method would work fine. I have done it both ways. You are right. These bees were pretty laid back, which was nice.

I use 8 frame boxes for several reasons one being that it is too much of a jump from a nuc to a 10 frame box and they take longer to get over the move, another being that I ain't no spring chicken and I get to lift lighter boxes, I am over the heavy lifting.

I hear ya. Those boxes do get heavy sometimes.

How do you treat for SHB? Also if you have deep and a medium going into winter won't they move up into the medium....do you pollinate with deeps only. Just wondering or do you undersuper the medium in the fall? Thanks for the video

I currently use Beetle Blasters but am about to try another method and plan to do a video or two to see how it works. I am still learning about the pollination thing. Hopefully the bees will move up into and fill both boxes, I am thinking a deep and medium right now but it is a work in progress. I am learning about this whole process now and hopefully will get it right. I do plan to feed more than usual to keep them growing and thriving at times of the year when bees traditionally brood down. My thoughts about beekeeping are constantly shifting and I am learning that bees have to be managed differently depending on the goals of the beekeeper.

Goal is one realty is other thing you would have your goal reached if you have your genetics Queens and you know what to expect but buying from unknowns is pure luck good luck you will need it

You are right. We will see what happens. This queen breeder has a good reputation and so far the queens are doing well. I am searching for somewhat consistent results.
I do buy from queen breeders but try to only buy from those that come highly recommended. Have had pretty good success doing that so far. Haven’t really done a lot of queen tearing myself though I have done a little. Time is a limiting factor for me as I also work full time.
      Thanks for checking in.

The hole in the center of the lid is a bad idea it allows anything falling into the hive to land over the brood, better in the corner.

Makes sense though I have never had any issues with the hole in the middle.

No don’t dump the hive beetles in new hive. On ground in front better.

Probably not a bad idea but the beetles would more than likely find their way into the hive anyway. Thanks for watching!!!
