  • Let's go back to basics with a step-by-step tutorial on how to start a Teepublic shop from scratch. You can upload print on demand designs and make some passive income doing something fun (creating designs and getting a commission for each sale). I've included some tips & tricks along the way as well.
    This guide is designed for COMPLETE BEGINNERS who may be confused about some of the settings, or even not sure where to begin! That's OK - we were all new once and this guide is designed to be an easy to follow walkthrough about how to EXACTLY set up your Teepublic store. Let's go!

      Yes that is a good question - on Teepublic, the prices are fixed so there is no opportunity for an artist to change the margins. So you either make the full commission, or when Teepublic has a sale you make the reduced commission.

    Great video. You have a gift for doing the "walk through" step by step videos, which I need because I'm brand new to POD. I watched it to help me open a store. I also opened one with Zazzle. I noticed though that my designs/products or store don't even show up on the websites' home page searches. It's weird because I log out of my account and go in the websites as a regular customer and type my verbatim tags and titles but my designs don't appear, only other designers' designs with those similar tags. If two designers have the same tags, does the one with more designs and seniority trump the other (the new guy) and gets his designs displayed to the exclusion of the other?

    • @zenwatercooler

      Awesome, thank you for the feedback! If you're designs are not showing up in Teepublic, I have a video here: th-cam.com/video/M64CGa2I0-Q/w-d-xo.html. I really don't know much about this print on demand field but your videos helped me a lot. Thanks again. By watching this video I will also try to start on Teepublic. May be this will be a silly question but as I told you that I am new in this field with many queries in my mind and I want answers to make my work better in a correct way under the guidance of a professional and expert person like you. I am feeling very hesitate to writing this message to you but I want to do work in this field. I am doing this work on my android mobile phone. I hope you will help me by providing the answer. If the design is text only, and it is not trademarked, then someone else can produce a similar design (not exactly the same). Your tutorials are the best ! Thank you -
    One question that I haven’t figured out, yet, please -
    For both, RedBubble and TeePublic. - When I am in the process of walking through every product, after uploading, as you showed here, and am clicking on each individually to assure centering and sizing of image - with transparent background - when selecting a background colour, does that apply that colour only to the display on the store page…. or does that selected background colour get fixed as the only colour option for all customers for that item ??
    Thank you kindly -

    • @kristinashumadieva1529
      @kristinashumadieva1529 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am not sure I understand your question completely but I can try and answer it for you :) you can easily check how your products look to your potential customers if you take a look around all the different products after you have published your design. Basically, on Redbuble you can choose the default color on the clothing but you cant unselect other color options to appear on the clothing. That is not the case with the rest of the products where your default color selection is the only option they can buy. On Teepubluc on the other hand, you can select the default color for clothing (the color that will appear in the search results when someone is looking at the variety of designs in your niche) but you can also manually choose which other colors you want your apparel to appear onto so your clients can only choose to buy a t-shirt or long sleeve shirt etc in a pallete of colors chosen by you or you can select all of them - it is really up to your preference. The rest of the products is the same like on RB, only one color. I hope that clears things up! :)

    • @PeterQuentercrimsonbamboo
      @PeterQuentercrimsonbamboo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kristinashumadieva1529 Ohh thank you kindly, Kristina ! Well, I would like to leave background colour options for the customer to choose at time of their selection - pretty much for all textiles and products (unless I have a white script in the design, of course ) - ok, so if I understand correctly, I should leave all colour options during upload-individual-manual-final-sizing-placement as 'white' (where that option exists - a few don't have white) ) and that way the customer has all colour options free to choose - - if I make a background selection during that individual-sizing-placing-correctly-phase, then that by-me-selected-BG-colour will be the only option offered to the customer - ?!

    • @kristinashumadieva1529
      @kristinashumadieva1529 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PeterQuentercrimsonbamboo No. On Redbubble you can't select the color selections available for your customers. you can ONLY select the default color that will show up in search when someone is searching for designs like yours, however they can still click on the design and then choose other background color - you don't have control over that od Redbuble. On teepublic you can choose some custom colors and default color (it can be white, black, grey or any other available color but most often we use black or white background color for our designs cuz they sell the most) Zen recommends to click the option Select All colors so you can leave that choice up to your client's preferences

    • @PeterQuentercrimsonbamboo
      @PeterQuentercrimsonbamboo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@kristinashumadieva1529 ok.. perfect - got it - that’s how I actually like it - let customers have all options and decide - the final BG colour choice - I just select one for display purpose - white or black mostly, some colour if the specific design requires it to be visible - thank you very much, Kristina! Should I get Adobe photoshop for my laptop to make png?

    • @HelmetVanga
      @HelmetVanga 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Photoshop is a cadillac for editing no question. However, Adobe charges monthly fee for using it and you never own it. To make your design or image converted to PNG, first it has to be scanned or photographed. Photography software usually saves as a JPEG (JPG) format. Scanner software gives you the options of PJG or PDF if it is a good scanner software might even give you a TIFF and PNG right there and there. Most if not all artists usually edit their art in some sort of software like to clean up, tone it up a little, opacity, remove background, etc. When the art/image is done you can exported into a PNG file format with the pixels and DPI desired. This latter parts is a tad challenging if you are not a graphics design major. It can be learnt definitely provided you are into it.

    Hey Zen!! Great video. Just 2 questions. If you could kindly answer.
    1) Do I NEED to fill in my payment details as soon as I make an account? If I don’t do that then will I not be able to start uploading designs and make money at all and reach visibility? (I’m very new to POD and I'm asking this because Redbubble does now make a store live and ready for selling if the payment details are not filled and Teepublic is owned by Redbubble although as far as the details I saw here the settings are quite different but just wanted to know)
    2) While signing up for a new account you need to give your county’s name. So will I only be able to make sales in THAT PARTICULAR country, the county which I entered ?(Then I won’t be making sales because the people in my county don’t shop from these pod websites at all so that is a problem and I know for sure).
    These were the two questions that I had, found this video just today and it was super helpful and saw that you actually replied to others and cleared their doubts so just wanted to try my luck because I have been asking a lot of people and no one responded. Well thank you and have a great day Zen!

    • @zenwatercooler

      Hello! 1. No I believe that you can set up an "artist account" and then start uploading designs right away. I believe that you need to add your PayPal address in order to get paid (and they don't care about that until you make a sale).
      2. Yes you need to give your country's name. I am not sure why. But you will be able to make sales anywhere in the world. I am based in Canada and it doesn't matter - anyone who visits Teepublic can buy something and that includes your designs. It is not limited to your country only.

    Hey, Zen. Great tips as always? 1 simple question: Would you say that being very consistent with your uploads is crucial for the algorithm to start showing up your designs in search more? Some POD sellers say that we should upload every day X number of designs, but sometimes is hard to upload so hard every day, it is not really possible for me, since I spent a lot of time uploading. Would like to hear your thoughts on this. Keep up the amazing job, man :)

    • @PhillipLemmon
      @PhillipLemmon 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If I may respond....
      I would just upload like this...
      1. WHEN you can (not everyone can upload designs all day everyday) just make sure that what you upload is of GOOD quality (doesn't have to be a freaking PICASSO, lol)
      2. WHAT you can, (meaning, if you're just starting out....then make TEXT BASED DESIGNS.
      (Funny sayings, thoughts, or quotes,.... That you edit of course, lol) that way you're not stressing yourself out over what to design.
      Hope this helps you on your journey to become a successful entrepreneur!

    • @zenwatercooler
      @zenwatercooler  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's a great question - my personal experience is that consistent uploads do not trigger any algorithm (although I don't think any of us can really know). I go hard on Redbubble for a month and then take like 2 months off and don't even think about it. So I am not sure what "consistent" would actually mean. It COULD be possible but I haven't seen any evidence that the algorithm favors consistency. However, I do consistently upload at least 1 design to some platform pretty much every day (like a farmer watering the crops and helping them grow).

      You could, but if you want to order your own product as wholesale, I would recommend a company like Printbest or Printful - you just design and order at cost (often a substantial discount) - hopefully this helps: th-cam.com/video/bjLvTjskp2k/w-d-xo.html

    I'm also based in Canada. Is TeePublic US based? Do you get paid in USD or CAD? Do you need to report your earnings to the IRS / pay tax in the US?

    • @zenwatercooler
      @zenwatercooler  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Teepublic is owned by Redbubble (so I am not sure exactly where their headquarters are) but they pay in US dollars. I'm not a tax accountant but generally speaking, you are supposed to declare your income when you file your Canadian income taxes and you would list the payments you received in Canadian dollars (so you would do a calculation of that day's exchange rate).

    • @zenwatercooler
      @zenwatercooler  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's a good question and no the width is not always first (sometimes designs are landscape and sometimes they are portrait). For Teepublic, you want at least 5,000 wide x 5,500 pixels tall (a t-shirt is typically portrait). I hope that helps!

      Teepublic does a great job of adding in their own tags. So you definitely don't have to include "t-shirt" in the title of the listing. I just jam as many keywords in there as possible.

    • @zenwatercooler
      @zenwatercooler  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes - copyright free means that by definition no one owns the copyright, so you can use that. However, I always recommend using the public domain (copyright free) image as a base and adding/changing/modifying it to create an original piece of art. That way, you will never get a copyright strike from someone else who also uploaded the exact same image!

    About the color selection it’s kind of in contradiction to something you say in many videos… Do you think that teepublic is an exception to the rule and leaving all colors on it’s okay and not driving the customer away after being unable to make a quick decesion? Sorry for my bad english, got to say I am a fan of the channel cause I am learning so much from you but I want to know this just so I can maximize my sales…

    • @zenwatercooler
      @zenwatercooler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes that is a good question - for t-shirts, I think limiting options (colors) could rob you of a sale. There is no downside to having the option of any weird color for a shirt. For an individual design (like a picture or mug), I am a fan of selecting white text on dark background or dark text on white background.
