Dave Grohl created Foo Fighters after Nirvana. The first Foo Fighters album he made by himself. He played all the instruments and sang. You should check out Everlong by Foo Fighters

After Kurt Cobains death, Dave mourned so hard he couldn’t even listen to music for like 8 months ( I get it) After that he recorded his first album all alone just to see what would happen. The rest is history.

In 1994, Dave Grohl recorded an entire album on his own-sing and playing almost every instrument-and used the name "Foo Fighters" to hide his identity
After getting a record deal, Grohl needed members to play the songs live
Thus, the Foo Fighters were formed

Their live shows are amazing. He fell off the stage, broke his leg and dislocated his ankle. They bandaged it, carried him back on stage and he finished the concert.

    • @joeldf6859
      @joeldf6859 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Not only did he finish it, but sat down in a chair and had a medic hold his ankle in place for the remaining 2 or so hours of the show or his ankle would be permanently damaged. The accident happened about 20 minutes into the show, and Dave didn't want to disappoint his fans by having to stop the show so early. There was a program Dave was on several years later where they reunited him with that medic. The host asked the medic if he minded sitting there holding Dave's foot that whole time. He said, "not really". Because even though this was a job for him, he also happened to be a big Foo Fighters fan.

Dave Grohl is a legendary beast and it's not just the Nirvana connection. This man done picked up from that whole mess and made a band and a name for himself that has endured 20+ years. The Foo Fighters are amazing and there are sooo many hits and great songs. One of my favorites is called All My Life. Lastly, he's just a really down to earth, nice guy.

Dave Grohl is known as the nicest guy in Rock, and for good reason. He recorded the first Foo Fighters album by himself (except 1 song he had an additional guitar player). He is a musical genius and can play most songs by ear. Foo Fighters even put out an album earlier this year with a bunch of Bee Gees covers, and they're really good. I am a super fan, so I'm pretty biased, so keep that in mind.
More Foo Fighters songs to check out are:
    I'll Stick Around
    Monkey Wrench
    Learn to Fly
    All My Life
    Best of You
    Long Road to Ruin
    Walk
    Something From Nothing
    Run
    Shadow Dancing (Andy Gibb cover).

Man, I WISH I could sing this .... EVERY time I hear it I feel like I can knock down brick walls - I can't - I'm a 63 year old wimp lol! but this is just such a stupendously good track and video it ALWAYS has that effect on me. It's like going into battle. You guys are great to listen to BTW - I struggle a bit with the lingo and accent but I guess that's how American's feel listening to Scottish people or Cockney's (Londoners) ... Oh and your kid was cool too the other day - looked like a little drummer in the making. Nothing cheers me up like my friends (nearly 3) year old being put on the phone in the morning, asking if I can visit - they are so funny - HARD work but funny as hell. Parents should get some kind of (solid gold) medal.

You really need to delve into Dave’s other projects, all around music. Books, movies, documentaries, soundtracks, interviews. If you get the chance, watch their concert video from Wembley stadium in London. They are so respected, Dave is literal friends with members of Led Zeppelin and Paul McCartney of the Beatles. He’s performed with them as well as socialized. Dave is also only 50 years old and inducted twice into the rock and roll hall of fame for Nirvana and Foo Fighters, FF just this year, their first year of eligibility (25 years from their first album). This guy is a family man - married with three young daughters. I just can’t say enough about him. Good dude.

Dave Grohl dropped out of high school to pursue his dream of being in a punk band. He ended up in Seattle Washington and became the drummer for Nirvana (then considered a punk band in the late 80's). But "The Seattle Sound" eventually evolved and became known as "Grunge" and it changed the musical world. When Kurt Cobain died April 5th 1994, Dave went into a deep mourning. He eventually dealt with his pain by writing his own music, playing all the instruments, then dubbing in all the vocals in his home studio. The demo tape he created was circulated to his friends. Everyone was so impressed they wanted to sign up and create a band with him, eventually getting a record contract and released their first Album, July 4th 1995. That's how the Foo Fighters started, almost by accident. This past October, 2021, the Foo Fighters were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! Dave Grohl was inducted with Nirvana in 2014. So Dave Grohl is one of a very small class of musicians who are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame more than once, with a different group. There are SOOOOO many Foo Fighter Songs and video's that are fantastic! It is a very deep rabbit hole to go down, but the Foo's are worth it. My personal favorites are..
    "Hero" released 1998 th-cam.com/video/EqWRaAF6_WY/w-d-xo.html
    "These Days" release 2011 th-cam.com/video/YDVAQI-4lto/w-d-xo.html
Way to many more to list.
    Long Live the Foo's!

First Foo Fighters album was all Dave - every instrument and vocals. But if you wanna do stadium gigs you need friends. Drums is his first love though, he looks at a guitar and sees a drum set and plays accordingly - he can't read sheet music. Foo Fighters is in good hands with Taylor Hawkins on the drums though (although even Taylor is starting to do some vocal work).

One of the incredible things about Dave Grohl is he doesn't know how to read music, he said he sees music like legos & just knows by ear how to arrange it & he said while playing guitar he looks at it like drums the higher pitch/thin strings as symbols & down to the thicker/bottom strings as bass drums.

  • @LongplayCentral

David Grohl is amazingly talented. That dude has more creativity in his little finger than most of today's "bands" have in their entire lineup, lol. As you said, he was the drummer for Nirvana (and one of the world's best drummers), and now the lead singer of the Foo Fighters (two of the most important bands of all time), he's a two-time inductee in the Rock and Roll hall of fame. For me, the Foo Fighters are kind of hit and miss, I like a lot of it, some of it is not for me, but you gotta respect what they do, they are, in my opinion, the last of the great rock bands, and they keep it going year after year (I think they're together something like 25 years now!). Also, David is a talented writer (I'm reading his current book [The Storyteller] now, it's pretty good). And on top of all that, he's widely considered to be one of the nicest guys in Rock and Roll. Dude is the real deal.

Yeah, it is difficult for an artist to break away and become popular, after his/her previous band was so huge... Led Zeppelin's guitarist Jimmy Page did a band called The Firm, but they lasted only 2 albums... Zeppelin's singer Robert Plant did well as a solo singer, but was overshadowed by his work w/ Zeppelin... KoRn's guitarist Brian 'Head' Welch struggled w/ solo projects after leaving KoRn for a while... Even Roger Waters of Pink Floyd saw his solo career cool off after leaving Floyd in 1984, but he bounced back after 2000 by playing Pink Floyd sets as a solo artist.
After Nirvana's end in 1994, bassist Krist Novoselic tried solo projects like Sweet 75... Eyes Adrift... neither did well.
Dave Grohl had started to write his songs while in Nirvana, and recorded an album on which he played drums, guitar & bass, plus the vocals. That was the first Foo Fighters album, which was released in 1995... Grohl hired Nirvana's touring guitarist Pat Smear, bassist Nate Mendel & drummer William Goldsmith - 2 former members of the band Sunny Day Real Estate... to tour as the Foo Fighters. Radio put them on the air, and so did MTV. That record sold platinum in the US and did very well in Europe. The song 'Big me' had a hit music video spoofing a Mentos commercial (The Foo Fighters got pelted w/ Mentos at their shows after it came out!)
The second album 'Color & the shape' became a huge MTV success in 1997 w/ 4 music videos... 'Monkey wrench'... 'Everlong' ... 'My hero'... 'Walking after you'... but drummer William Goldsmith left the band after Dave Grohl opted to play almost all the drums on the record... drummer Taylor Hawkins joined the band afterwards. The 3rd Foo Fighters album 'There is nothing left to lose' was recorded as a trio - Grohl, Mendel and Hawkins (guitarist Pat Smear left the band) and it delivered another big single 'Learn to fly' in 1999. Guitarist Chris Shiflett joined the band.
Sessions for the 4th album 'One by one' were problematic... Dave Grohl also recorded a metal project Probot, and played drums on the Queens of the Stone Age record 'Songs for the deaf' in 2002... When Grohl finished a tour w/ QOTSA, Foo Fighters re-recorded 'One by one' and it became a huge record in 2002 w/ songs like 'All my life'... 'Times like these'.
Foo Fighters recorded a double album 'In your honor' in 2005, and a live acoustic record 'Skin & bones' in 2006. The next record "Echoes, silence, patience & grace' in 2007 brought even more success w/ 'The Pretender' single here... a hilarious video for 'Long road to ruin'. By this point, Foo Fighters went on tour w/ more members... Pat Smear returning as a 3rd guitarist, Rami Jaffee on keyboards... They sold out 2 nights at the new Wembley Stadium in England on that tour in 2008 which made the concert DVD "Live at Wembley Stadium".
In 2011, Foo Fighters recorded the 'Wasting light' album w/ Nirvana's producer of 'Nevermind' - Butch Vig. The album hit #1 on the US charts for the first time. They carried on with successful records... 'Sonic Highways' in 2014, 'Concrete & gold' in 2017, and their latest record 'Medicine at Midnight' in 2021, which was inspired by Eighties pop rock records.

When Genesis' lead singer Peter Gabriel left the group, the drummer Phil Collins took over the lead. He had a great solo career as well.

The first Foo Fighters album was recorded in the same studio Nirvana recorded their last song. Dave Grohl is carrying the torch that Kurt lit 🔥
Kurt and Dave actually harmonized beautifully vocally, and in fact he was considering using some of Dave's songs to become Nirvana songs. Marigold was actually released but Kurt loved "Exhausted" and "Alone Easy + Target"

Dave Grohl is a legitimate rock star! He actually started off as a guitarist in a band when he was a teenager. Their drummer sucked and Dave was like, "I can drum better than that!" He started drumming and Nirvana recruited him. After Kurt Cobain died, Grohl started Foo Fighters by himself. The very first Foo Fighters album is all Dave Grohl. He played and recorded every instrument in that album. Check out Foo Fighters - I'll Stick Around, from the first album. It has a much more Nirvana feel to it

As you enjoyed this can I recommend watching "everlong" live by the foo fighters. In particular the version ft Nandi Bushell on drums, she is an 11yo girl from the UK who is a musical prodigy. She has her own TH-cam channel and challenged Dave Grohl to a "drum off"
A lengthy affair which she won, which resulted in her being invited to play the drums on the final song of their live concert "everlong" you will love it.

Dave Grohl is what an artist should be. He doesn't care about the money. He doesn't really care for the fame. He just cares about the music. He's, also, a really chill guy. No real ego. And he makes seriously good music. "Everlong" is a Top 3 in all music for me. The album cut or acoustic, the song is just good. As is most of their music.
Just on a extra bit of info on them. They did a concept album called Sonic Highways. They went to a city, spent about a week and learned its history. Wrote a song about it while still there. It was a mini-series on HBO. Yet, sadly, didn't make the move to HBOMax.

Kurt Cobain actually loved two of Dave's songs that he wrote while he was in Nirvana. You see Kurt done all the writing in Nirvana. Dave made a tape and played it for Kurt. The songs are amazing! They are “Exhausted” and “Alone + Easy Target” Y'all should check them out.

Dave and Trent *NIN* are two extremely talented musicians of that ilk...play everything, write, compose and mix everything...but the group gets credit...even like w/Trent on tour or videos, it's studio musicians or his friends. If you do a deep dive on Trent and his beginnings to now, that'd be a hell of a series. No other popular reactor has even covered his catalog of a single album...save the cover from Johnny Cash - Hurt.
You'd be one of the firsts, and it's very interesting...Trent created a genre of music...
