    I'm new but man I love the 20 buck buy in. Bring back the time of achievable cosmetics and away with micro transactions! That being said I'm here for the long haul, I just hope that fix what they need to. Besides the crashes or what not it's just the immortal DC bots that annoy me.

      Couldn't agree more. I remember in World of Warcraft when having a armor set meant you worked very hard to obtain it or in Halo only the devoted wore the samurai suit. In CoD4 red tiger camo meant you earned it with 300 headshot kills. I think the pay to play method is a viable method but I do wonder about the overhead costs for servers and things like that.
      Since you are new which characters have caught your attention?

      @Mikey_Storm 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      CoD exclusively cares about maximize profit for their shareholders and that means protecting the zero skill masses at all costs. Veterans be damned. From the perks to the killstreaks to the movement, flinch, time to kill, audio and maps. The game is designed from the ground up to make useless players feel like they are a badass. That's why SBMM is so strong, to keep the garbage players from getting exposed by the skilled population of the game.

    • @testtube173
      @testtube173  18 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      This is worth discussing. There were leaked code and documents that discussed methods to evening out the playing field in later cods. Stuff like adjusting audio cues or narrowing spray or making it wider. Even more or less aim assist. This isn't even taking into account that it stacks teams according to how many times you have won recently.
      To me these are all reasons to never play a COD game again and that is zero sweat off Activision's back. They would gladly ruin the experience for the few to placate the many.
      People will defend controller aim assist because they think it's not that big a deal but the millisecond they are asked to turn it off or allow the same assistance across all input methods everyone starts screaming in outrage.
      I'll be honest I sincerely don't have a alternative to these practices because people hate to lose and have insanely inflated egos thanks to all the assistance they unknowingly receive.

    as a new player to gigantic but a long time fighting game player i feel like ive heard a lot of these arguments before, but i feel like a lot of them boil down to poor guidance from the game/community to teach players how to really play the game to its fullest.
    taking 50 hours to understand stamina is not something that interests me if theres no guide on the nuances of the mechanic, and im left on my own bearings to figure out things some players have known for over half a decade.
    whenever people complain about fighting games in a similar way, its typically because the game itself does a poor job of teaching the mechanics and theres little content online to easily guide people to understand how theyre supposed to play and utilize the mechanics in front of them.

      @abdulkarimelnaas7595 22 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      The great part about fighting games is you only need a small pool of players. It's really hard to kill a fighting game. Unfortunately, Gigantic does not have the benefit of 1 vs 1. As a 5 vs 5 team based game, death is around every corner until it reaches critical mass and even then it remains a looming threat.

      I have thoughts on games like that. Extremely high skill ceilings and ridiculous amount of individual player expression which sounds good on paper but is cyanide for new players. It never fails that good players excel and then chase away medium'ish players. Then queue times go to hell and would be new players wait 15 minutes just to get destroyed by veterans. Games that have auto aim mechanics or 50% win rate algorithms cheat bad players into thinking they are good because at least they win half their games. Games that reward high tier play typically function with extremely small player bases. I miss Battlerite with all my heart and it's not the same but if you love stunlock studios they made v rising which scratches that itch for Battlerite refugees. The official launch is may 8th and I'll be covering it for sure.

    I didn't know anything about this game until a month before re-release. I saw a video explaining what it it was and it had my attention. I bought it the day it dropped on PS5 and fell in love! It's amazing and I experienced multiple crashes every time I'd play. I'm still chomping at the bit to play more. Sadly I can't endure the relentless crashes. I gave it a couple weeks and prayed that it had been fixed, it hasn't. I could see this game being one of my all time favorites but I worry that it won't be fixed for 3 months and I'll forget about it. What's worse is everyone else on PS5 will too and it feels like this game really needs players and I know PS5 has players.
    Please Gigantic make this a top priority, for all the fans. ✌️

    I agree with almost everything you said. Alpha tester from the original game here and it’s crazy hard not to lose hope when the game functions objectively worse than the original release and isn’t supported by the Motiga team. Love it very much, but even going in with boundless optimism the relentless bugs over the last three weeks are just demoralizing. My game will function fine one match and crash three times in another. It’s on the known bugs list, but just that singular issue makes matches so lacking in fun and punishes my team with AI nonsense until I can load back in. I’ll play it until the servers go down, but I doubt their is the will or resources to course correct based on what I’m seeing so far.

    I mean maybe my standards are high because I come from League, Dota2, etc. But I really do not feel like Gigantic is that hard. I would say it has quite a low skill floor, with a moderately high skill ceiling.

    • @testtube173
      @testtube173  23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Totally agree. I talk about league in the later part of the video. The cheat code the geniuses implemented into the game design for those games is they added a mini game of last hit the minions. Something anyone can learn and use to stay competitive even in the bronze leagues. There isn't much of that in Gigantic so if a new player isn't blessed with new players lobbies they can struggle to contribute to winning and feel inadequate and decide to play something else. I'm an older gamer so challenge is harder to gauge because I would put up with severe ass whoopings for dozens of hours if it meant I could become better in the end. Newer gamers want instant gratification in some manner and that's hard to come by in high skill ceiling games.

    I definitely feel like a more dedicated tutorial/guide section, similar to the Skullgirls training sections, would really help rescue this game's new playerbase: you have a mandatory guide on game basics, then you have little bite-sized optional guides on 'managing stamina', 'jump attacks', 'dodge attacks', 'creature upgrades', 'building focus', etc.
    Most of that stuff is *technically* intuitive, People know you build focus by dealing and taking damage like in Overwatch or Paladins, but how many people think to go solo a creature for a little while not to kill it, but just to build some extra focus to finish out that 3/4 full bar? Most players know that jump attacks exist, but how many know about the cripple effect on backstabs? How many know it's ONLY backstabs? I certainly didn't for a while, and I wasted a ton of jump attacks trying to cripple opponents to their face.
    Does the game actually state anywhere that every character takes more damage when hit in the back because armor values are different in different places?
    I definitely agree with you; getting over the base hump of the learning curve to reach the, point where you actually feel like you're playing the game, rather than just flailing around hitting buttons, is the biggest problem this game is facing... Outside of the technical issues, which ARE getting fixed, just kinda slowly. It's been almost 100% functional for me on PC since about a week after launch, but that first week really kneecapped its momentum.
    I would also really just love a private server browser like TF2 has so that the core community can keep playing without going to the extreme lengths they did for the original version (and also potentially allowing for a modding scene to develop), but even if we don't get that and the game shuts down in a year or less, I am personally just going to enjoy the time I do have with this game. I made the mistake of leaving the game as soon as the server shutdown was announced back in 2017, and I have regretted it ever since. Nothing lasts forever, and it's okay if I payed 20 bucks for a 1-year pass to play this game as much as I want. I honestly wouldn't consider that a bad investment under normal circumstances, and for the revival of my favorite multiplayer game of all time? It's a steal.

The bigger issue with gaming nowadays is all the youtubers/tw players with implementing tier lists of heroes/guardians and "give advices" to ppl so their view point of a game becomes so narrow and u start to see the same stuff all over just because xy person said its true. Instead to let ppl figure it out themselves. they take that wow moments away.

    Been playing mobas since Dota was a mod and have been following Gigantic since its first release.
    I think a lot of what you said is true, but the sad reality is that the mentality of PvP for the average person in the west has shifted. 10+ years ago long term rewards by improving at a game were the standard. CS, Dota, LoL have high barriers to entry but were the standard for PvP.
    Those games still have a huge following but I'd think that is more because of their legacy. Releasing a new successful PvP game is all about easy play and quick rewards. It's why Overwatch 2 changed so much from Overwatch 1
    (killed the game for me). Why heavy RnG reliant games like apex legends and CoD warzone. You don't need to be better than the other guy if you can get lucky with loot once in a while. Or counter someone by just switching characters instead of learning how they play and then outplaying them.
    Nowadays someone that has played 20hrs of a game demands they be as good as someone who has spent 150hrs.
    Your right. Gigantic doesn't pander to that and it's a huge reason it hasn't seen much success. It's also why there hasn't been a new real eSports title made in the last decade.

    • @testtube173
      @testtube173  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah that's why I tried to discuss some of the smoke and mirrors that successful PVP games have adopted. Cod just blatantly gives aim assistance so high that a literal brand new player can accidentally kill a seasoned veteran if the stars align. Something that just isn't possible in high skill ceiling games. One of the possibilities for games moving forward is to drip feed activity to new players so they can focus on mundane or easier tasks long enough to become invested in learning the more difficult parts of the game but even that seems like the opposite direction that online games are going for.
      I've been gaming since the 80s and I have seen first hand many times what happens to games with difficult learning curves that don't facilitate new players. That being said you have games that stand alone as beacons of open sandbox gameplay where the players skill expression is the most important thing. Games like Smash Bros Melee or Star Craft 1 and 2 refuse to die because the experience they offer can't be found anywhere else.
      I was thinking maybe something like that could be fostered within Gigantic but I lack the confidence to try and work full time as it is but maybe it could happen.

    It's funny you mention Dead by Daylight because it's early years was WAY worse than gigantic, and yet, without competition, it was able to thrive to today. I've put 2000+ into that game and I hope this game has a similar story. I do love how it leans on melee over ranged. I love hero shooters but im not very good with "shooting" lol, so with gigantic I feel like a legend, out positioning, predicting attacks, timing dodges, choking escapes, it's awesome! Tyto is my favorite too. I guess what i hope is for Gigantic to lean more on it's niches- gamemodes/ modifiers; like deathmatch, perma-invisibility, always rampaging guardian, escort creatures to gain power, etc. More guardian engagement because right now they're just a huge health bar to widdle down, and more lore because as cool as they are, as fun as it is to play-
    we're playing as nobodies.
    Also Sven reminds me of Pop Fizz (skylander) so I like him too.- imagine that crossover!

  • @kotharianlightning
    @kotharianlightning 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Imo the biggest problem of the game is inherent to the era it comes from. Since the mid 2010s, continuing until now, there's been an idea that players only play shooters for multiplayer PvP. This allowed game companies to entirely focus on the multiplayer, which technically reduced costs. However, what was left out of the equation was that people often used PvE as a way of getting used to how characters work in a combat environment, so by not including a PvE campaign or Co-op missions, you're actually losing a lot. This is especially true of games that have very complex characters and mechanics such a Gigantic. PvE is also a environment that is a lot less pressure filled than PvP, which a lot of players use for casual experiences when they want to play the game but don't feel like try-harding it in PvP.
    I know the re-release wasn't going to have a campaign or anything since that's obviously a larger scope project. It's just one of those things that would have really helped with player retention in the initial phase.

      I love Paladins. I think the gameplay choices are better thought out in Paladins than Overwatch. The capture point being centered followed by a push cart is great because it guarantees matches to play out faster. The push the robot mode in ow2 takes ages and you can lose for 99% of a match and then win at the last second. Imo terrible design lol. I also love build paths for Paladins since you can play the same character a multiple different ways and buy items to counter other heroes or comps. Obviously you meant character design and I'm a little down the middle for Paladins characters. Some are excellently designed with coherent kits. Others are weird all over the place and make little sense. I am not slinging mud because I really do enjoy Paladins but my vote goes to Gigantic. Their design is just next level from old mad chemist to protectors of the forest fox satyrs. I love every character in Gigantic.

    As a new player, I'd say the Dead by Daylight generators actually have a pretty decent comparison in the power spots, it's really easy for a new player to just get one done if other players are distracted in a fight or at another location. I've gotten so many points when I play with my friends that way, just being opportunistic xD

      That kind of works in that you can sneak a power sometimes in the Rush mode for Gigantic and yes that helps but 2 things come to mind. You can't really do that in the Clash game mode since creatures defend would be sneak attacks and second we are talking 4 seconds of interaction vs a couple minutes of fixing a generator. I do get the comparison though it offers a avenue for brand new players to contribute to the push but I guess it feels like that might not be a strong enough hook mechanic to keep people invested while learning. I'll have to think more on that one.

    I made it 14 minutes into this video and have zero idea of what point you're trying to make.
    You just kind of go off an elitist style rant about how "mechanically dense, high skill games" like gigantic do terribly and burn while "low skill games like COD" do well
    Dude, moba's are a hardcore niche and almost all moba's are free to play. When you take an already small sector like that and add a paywall you have even less players. And when the game is completely broken on launch you lose a lot from the already small player base.
    I haven't bought a COD game since the first modern warfare reboot but what I will tell you is the reason people play COD games is the game feel. There's not another shooter out there to this day that genuinely feels as satisfying as COD.
    There are plenty of super complicated and mechanically deep games that get super popular. It's all up to luck and having a fully working solid game that spreads through word of mouth.

      Why the attitude? It's fine if you don't like the video but why come at me like this? I explicitly explain how and why difficult games jump the hurdle of getting players to stick around long enough to learn their difficult game. Having avenues that almost anyone can learn and enjoy helps new players stick it out so they feel like a contributor to a win. Maybe that explanation began at 15 minutes in....

I love the PS5 but I have like 5 games for it and never play them anymore. I can't aim with a controller like I used to as a kid and stick to kbm for shooters. Still it's a tragedy how play station users are being treated by abstraction/gigantic.

      My problem with how to guides is the amount of work it takes to learn the mechanics of an individual hero enough to be an authority on how they should be played. Then capturing interesting and impressive gameplay for that specific hero then concocting a informative and interesting guide that is in depth with a lot of insight but easy to digest so that people can actually learn from it. All so you get 500 views and a few appreciative comments. I hear what you are saying that it's up to the community to guide new players on how to play but the reach potential is borderline non existent because keeping it real this game hovers around 1,000 players on steam and whatever else amount for consoles and arcs platform. I do remember riot games had summoner showcase and new hero trailers with character builds and spell usage. So maybe something similar could be arranged. Streamers kind of took over the mantle to show off gameplay but that requires a ton of time to build an audience. I would love to see someone take up the mantle for Gigantic and show everyone how creative the gameplay is but I haven't seen anyone try yet. If you haven't found him yet brave knight makes TH-cam videos as he is learning new characters. Very funny personality and enjoyable gameplay. Highly recommend checking him out.

      Honestly old games lol. I find myself enjoying classics more than brand new triple A games. It's not so much that new games are bad it's just that they are rehashing mechanics from 20 years ago that played better back then. That new justice league game plays worse and looks worse than Arkham City. I still love Nintendo games a lot but they also have fallen to sequel only practices. Indie games are some of the bravest when it comes to trying new ideas and one of the sleeper hits for me is "another crabs treasure". It has a very silly art style and goofy humor but sadly it's one of the freshest takes on dark souls inspired gameplay that I've seen in a very long time. If you have a beefy PC something I highly suggest trying out is the Metroid Prime modded games you can emulate. It's shocking how fun they are when you use a mouse instead of a crappy wii remote to play and the mods make everything control beautifully. I wish game development had followed that path instead of auto aim mechanics because of controller limitations.

    You had until you shit on Cyberpunk... I played it on release, and on PC it didn't crash as much as console, and the whole story is one of the best, going even higher on Phantom Liberty, and with 2.0 it fixed the lack of build variation, and right now you can go crazy play styles. It is a great game. If you dont like RPGs or cyberpunk setting, fine, but it is a great game.
    And while Gigantic has more depth than Overwatch and some other mainstream titles, it has less of a depth that some games that died exactly because too much depth, so depth is not just a thing to add non-stop, or the game will die, like Battlerite died.

      I love rpgs. Cyberpunk settings are hit or miss for me. Like the "Observer" game did it way better in my opinion than 2077 and with a fraction of the budget and development time. I think my main point was people defend cyberpunk 2077s launch and excuse the problems acting like it never happened. I didn't enjoy the original story at all and I don't care to play the expansion packs seeing how the og game had ample time with numerous launch push backs and it still came out mediocre. Most people didn't play it until the Netflix show came out so they don't know how bad it was but I did. I don't think slow down and auto aim mechanics are interesting and I think Batman Arkham games does the stalk and hunt enemies shtick far better. Its ok if you love the game just like it's ok that I didn't. I got a lot of flack for hating on witcher 3 which I still think is one of the most overrated games ever made.

Console bros have it the worst right now with crashes being the biggest thing. Im sorry to say, but thats already a clear indicator of a dead game. Like hardcore players being so skilled that they dominate newcomers with no clear way to give a handicap to even it out for newer players is a game grave. That isnt a red flag, most competitive games end in that state. Or full of hackers. But that is already a hurdle for new player acquisition. What the game needs is sadly to either kneecap experts, or give a handicap bonus to low MMR players to compete. It dumb itself down to an extent, but its like teaching kids to play baseball in an all open yard. There will be teens that will dominate if you dont set some play rules to make it fun for the kids.

      I've heard similar sentiments before and it's usually because you haven't found that character with a play style you love yet. There are disruptive unstoppable tanks. There are marksman high damage glass cannon builds. There are brawler up close and personal characters that grind the enemy down with finesse. There are faster than lightning assassins that enter the fray kill a high priority target and leave faster than they entered. For me this game is so insanely great because the ability to show skill expression through the way I choose to play the characters that you rarely if ever see in other shooters. Of course you can see this in mobas like dota 2 or league of Legends or whatever but this game allows for full control of your character in a very fast paced 3d environment and that is the distinction that matters so much to the players that love it. The unfortunate circumstance is most players that enjoy that type of gameplay are heavily invested into previous games from a long time ago that they have invested hundreds if not thousands of hours into. I'm posting an Hk-206 video soon about how I play him and I'm certain it'll showcase just how important individual skill can turn the tide. Thanks for commenting!

      The more skilled you get with her, her vortex that pulls and dazes and her teleport can also secure kills but they do over expose you so its best to let them go or have an assassin clean up kills unless you know for a fact the enemy teams location.

    Gigantic is a great game but to whine and fuss over other games having glitches as if it didn't have it's growing pains is just favoritism pouring out of every orifice you could offer. Cyberpunk isn't just 'a bland first person shooter', it's an RPG where you need to invest in builds to see the different mechanics while FPS combat serves as the very base. CoD is agreeably soulless as a product but the reason it's been shining more than anything recently is that the devs stopped making it a fake military bro experience and embraced the humor of video game nerd stuff. Zombies has been getting weird and wild updates, Warzone is just adding shitposts and memes to let people mess around and be funny.
    Gigantic isn't that 'deep' or 'rich', it plays very well and smoothly while trying to make it's stake in the MOBA genre. 3D MOBA don't survive long because SMITE is in the spotlight much like how DOTA 2 will never surpass League of Legends. Gigantic while on a shallow level can be compared to Overwatch, plays nothing similar and only shares the resemblance of cooldowns and active strategic control. OW has cheap sex appeal and big dough-eyed girlies and the patented chunky Blizzard art style.
    Gigantic has to compete against legacy titles with established audiences and offers nothing that the other games don't except that it's cool and a bit different. Smite killed Paragon and a few other niche titles, Gigantic is in no position to try and muscle in with no advertising or large streamer influences to get it's name out there. So an indie(ish) PvP game is trying to swing against titanic competitors and games that only look similar. With no budget, word of mouth or otherwise the game is going down just like Battleborn but with a bit more respect on it's name.
    Whining in a commentary video with cheap comparisons about 'I don't like thing that's popular' makes the point shallow, cheap and easy to get surface-level consumers to agree with you. If you want to do Gigantic any favors, showcase the game's deeper mechanics and maybe recruit some of the 'sweats' and higher skill players to help show off it's charm points.
    This video sucks and is just another rant piece in an ocean of other rant pieces. If you love your game do something more than whatever this is.
