Where possible, all links are affiliate links, this youtube thing is an expensive endeavor and every little bit helps.
At first I read and heard that as a Dr Pepper battery. Great video TO. These batteries are getting really good for off-grid use.
Dr. Pepper will be in the battery biz next!
Darned if you do and darned if you don't.
story of my life mate
Neat hub on that thing. Handy.
Sure is
That a great battery ! has Power poles right on it. That HAM ready ! most of it's like it had a lead acid charger on it. still in good shape ! 73's
Hard to beat it
Everything you might need for low voltage life!
Seems like it!
Consider that for decades and decades generators specifically meant a devices that converted mechanical energy into electrical energy. It's a term that is the successor to the dynamo (which really only referred to a device that converted mechanical energy into direct current). Gasoline-powered generators use gasoline engine as the source of mechanical energy. But solar cells utilize much more than the mechanical energy of the photons hitting the solar cell.
That being said, thanks for a great video. After all, battery power is a big part of Amateur radio.
By the way, my favorite quote from the video (ca. @2:40) "It's kind of weird, but we can get around that because we are hams"

Those LiFePO4 100/130Ah are okay... 👍
I'm a fan!
It's just a smart battery.🤷🏻♂️
In this case, its really smart.
Get 3 or 4 for the RV?
Could you imagine?
Cool battree. I'm ready to jump on a travel trailer here and could use something like this I think.
Worked well for me for a long time!
Nice product innovation and review, TO. I have had a Maynuo Programmable Load with a battery testing feature. You and Ape, however, pushed me over the line for ease-of-use and I bought a CBA V Pro w/ extended software. Pleased with it!
Nice, the CBA is really cool, but its pricey!
I ave ated te term long before you ever made a video, I call them batteries.
e really ates it!
Thanks for another informative vides. You didn't mention the Anderson pole input. Charging too?
The one under the hub can be used for input and output, the one in the hub is wired for input only. Which is a shame.
Now that's some smart Power! Tnx Man!
pretty slick!
After building a 560AH LiFePO4 battery for my sailboat, I recently built a 105AH LiFePO4 battery for Ham use. $122 for 4 battery cells, $40 Bluetooth BMS(a spare I had), and $12 U1 battery box. One could get by with a $10-20 BMS, but connecting, setting, and controlling the BMS via cell phone app is a huge benefit. Simple to build and all fits in a standard U1 box so it looks nice too. For well under $200, one can have a much better battery system for less than 40% the Dr Prepare price. A DIY project is up your alley and Would make a goods video.
Its on the list to do one of these days. So many projects a ham could never be bored!
"Well under 200" - eh, it adds up once you start factoring a fuse block, wire, connectors, and the various I/O ports(including a small solar charge controller) you'd need to replicate this thing.
@temporaryoffline
T.O. Did u try connecting a radio into the powerpoles directly, with the hub removed? Should work right? The new version has power poles instead of cig plug. I want to use this for battery backup and the ease of connection would be nice. Also if u tried, did it give your radio 13.8v ?
Peace
Hey Dram! Thanks for pointing out the new hub, that's cool. Yes the naked Anderson port will provide power out and in. You'll get "battery voltage" not regulated voltage, but radios are pretty tolerant to low voltage and I run my radios all the time off battery only.
@ thank you brother.
@ just ordered new Dr prepare 12% off $176 total. Perfect for my moms house a mile away. when power goes down so we can communicate
@@Dram_bam Sweet, congrats!
@ I’ll post a video for feedback
I love it! Gasoline generators dont generate gas.😂 I will remember that one!!! 🖖
#ProTip
I have gotten into so many (friendly) arguments about the term "solar generator" that it's not funny. Gas generator in my terms has always referred to the fuel source, more specifically gasoline and LP gas generator, as opposed to a diesel (fueled) generator. My stance is that "solar generators" are storage and output devices with electronic controls, that are essentially battery banks. Ugh! de WN7D
Right On!
Doctor Detroit & Doctor Know are way better! 73!
Doctor Who?
@@temporarilyoffline Guitar player from Bad Brains… Dr. Know. And if you don’t know Doctor Detroit… Well, it’s an 80s movie with Dan Aykroyd.
@@K3JRZOnTheAir I got the joke - I was referencing the british sci-fi Dr Who and carrying on the joke.
@@temporarilyoffline No, no...Who is on first.
Is it a Dr. PREPARE or Dr. Prepper?🧋 😂
PREPARE!PREPARE!PREPARE!PREPARE!PREPARE!PREPARE!PREPARE! 😂
I heard Dr. Pepper 😮
Out of curiosity, did you test it when you first got it? If not, I wonder if it was actually exactly 100ah. You may have lost even less overall percentage than 5 if it started a little less than 100%.
I didn't test it when I first got it. Wasn't that smart ;-). I agree with you though, it could have been 97ah or 105ah at the start and that would have made a difference. I am happy with the 1yr mark at 95% though... given how I abused it.
Yes, so called "solar generators" is a poor gimmick with truly ignorant origin. I have had this discussion with others (mainly sailing/rv community). I could accept someone calling a solar panel a solar generator, but not storage devices.
Right, the generator is the system of the panel+charge controller+delivery method. Since the clouds block the sun's production, its natural to put a battery in the middle.
