The central theme of this film is the quail's dependence on our use of the land. It shows the effects of food, cover, weather, predation and other factors, beginning with spring nesting season and following the birds through the rest of the year's cycle.
Produced by Missouri Dept. of Conservation (1953).

I like how Missouri has the oldest quail conservation video of any conservation agency and the most. Missouri has the best conservation agency in the country!

I know that this is a 5 month old post, but hey at least bobwhite quail are still existing today. Many people still own bobwhites for food, hunting, and even as pets. They still have natural territory in the United States and breed naturally. I guess the important part is for us to continue to converse their species, along with all of north america's at risk birds.

Actually, they did quite well with the quail. It is only recently that quail numbers have really been declining.

It’s the greed of raising corn for ethanol. It’s destroyed tons of turkey and quail habitat.
They can recover if we give them more habitat. They’re survivors and as shown in the video they have large broods.
If we give support they can thrive.

@@philbudtender I'm a dairy farmer in Pennsylvania but I took am sad and sort of angry with the agricultural industry and its indifference for change. In the past 20 years it's gotten bigger faster and less connected to the family farm. We are a very small 50 cow dairy and we have our fence rows and a wood lot. The big farmers in the area are destroying fence rows and a re very few left. Three things I've noticed that have changed since my youth. 1 cover crops rabbits and quail used to use hay fields in spring for nesting and since we as farmers never usually cut hay before June they had cover until the young was big enough to get on their feet but now many farms including my own have implemented cover crop silage so in April we are cutting the cover off in the name of soil conservation
2 The fence rows have left and I've noticed in our area anyhow severe winds have blown through the area to the point a barn roof and a calf hutch were blown over a few years ago because there is no brakes for the wind just wide open areas. Another thing I've noticed is the other night I heard an owl for the first time in forever all the animals have lost a home and 3 there are no pastures anymore with more and more herds being left in the barn all year the areas of thick grass and trees are being dozed and planted with corn or other crops to gain extra acres and therefore many animals other than the cows lose their home these three things would change a huge amount of this problem of loss of wild animals on farms

@@KlineDeere You listed 2 things, numbered 1 and 2. Is 3 about the owls?
I know that 3,000 small/family farms go out of business in the US every year. The biggest pig killer is Smithfield, who is owned by a Chinese corporation.
It is immoral what we do to "farm animals", and vegan activists have no hidden agenda - they just want the torture to stop.
      If you don't agree34
Have you heard about vertical farming? There are so many alternatives to food products, and it's time to stop abusing and exploiting non-human animals.
No one wishes ill on animal farmers - we just want the exploitation to end. We can all live and thrive without harming animals.
It's time for change, it's time to take violence off our plate. Please consider a different type of farming.
