      Just started 3rd grade. It’s review and it’s “boring! We did this” 🤣. Soon is our month break. So trying to keep him interested 🫣. We switched science twice so far because “I know everything” 🙄. Fun times 🤣. We have been doing 5 days a week vs 4. History literally went flying across the room today 🫣. That subject is a struggle.

    Rod and Staff Spelling is GREAT! Cost effective and sticks!!
    Also 7 and 8 has a really great historical word study at the end of each lesson. SO GOOD!!

    I got all the Generations History and I read them to my older kids 😂 I didn't want them missing out. I do have littles but I felt the older kids would love listening to them too and they did. I printed zoology but we're starting that in the fall. We are going to start the Titanic after the Resurrection Day unit. I was looking into the Narnia course but glad I didn't get it 😂 Doesn't sound like something I would enjoy. We did a curriculum 180 a few months into the school year. Switched from TGATB to Generations for science and history, also switched our math and language arts. 😬 I'm so happy we did! We are enjoying homeschooling again.

      Oooh I really wanted the Titanic unit! Neither of my kiddos seem interested, though. I keep trying to suggest it 🤣 I'm so happy you are enjoying Generations. I keep hearing people say the same thing and it makes me so excited!

    Nice. I have Apologia science on the list after we finish Easy Peasy Science. We are in second grade doing chemistry & physics now. I did enjoy the 2 Master Books. Heaven & Earth and Life. Both beginners. I think we use one of every brand of homeschooling materials 😂🤷‍♀️

    How well is Teaching the Classics working as far as middle school and high school together? I want to do it with my upcoming 7th grader and rising senior next year, but wasn't sure how it went with age gap. My middle schooler probably has better reading comprehension than my high schooler 😆. Also saw IEW is releasing an university style prep this year which would be fantastic to go after structure and style C!

    Do you have a Bible curriculum that you follow? As a former My Father’s World user, I enjoyed their specific Bible assignments for every day. I know you used them, too. Just curious if you don’t feel the need to do a separate Bible “subject” because Generations History is so rich with biblical intertwining? We are starting with Generations History in the fall, and I give you all the credit because I’d never heard about it until I started following your videos on TH-cam! 😂

      We're using Generations bible studies. They are really neat, and are meant for family studies (not just individual, but you can certainly do it that way, too). They are here (referral link): generations.idevaffiliate.com/idevaffiliate.php?id=24&url=51

    Have you looked into logos press “imitation in writing “ series? It seems on the same vein as IEW and I’ve been looking at it for my kiddos. I’d love your thoughts if you have them . ❤

    For IEW themed books parents should listen to a course targeted specifically for teaching these. There are 12 videos. Very helpful.

    Glad you mentioned standardized testing! I'm in NC and my kiddos are only 9 and 7 but I really wish we didn't have to. I have to talk my daughter through it letting her know it's ok if she doesn't know parts it's just to get an idea of where she's at. Do you have a test you like better than others?

    I wanted to say about the theme based writing course from IEW- the company suggests that you as the parent take a teaching writing course that is about $189 and it teaches you how to teach your child the theme based curriculum. Have you done that? I have not done it but I had talked to a lady from IEW and she had suggested that since my so. Is too young to do the structure and style as of now.

    • @mandy-maltz
      @mandy-maltz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have it, and went through it years ago (like a looong time ago) and haven't had time to go through the new one. I figured I'd understand more going through that.

    • @mandy-maltz
      @mandy-maltz  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It can absolutely be helpful, especially if you’re new to IEW. It’s not 100% needed if you do the lessons with the kids, but it sure makes things easier to grade and help when assisting your kids.
