Super video with specific examples of 3 types of fabric orientation and how to use effectively. Thank you. I have an unused stripe fabric in my stash that will be incorporated with big rose blocks. Have plans to start cutting out tomorrow!
Love your clear instructions- this video was so helpful. And I discovered that a link pops up on the video to quilt images found on the website, even if you don't show them in the video. It's always fun to see the finished product.
Was nice to see a quilt I hadn’t seen before EZ Patch. There must be so many quilts for you to pick from. Would love to see some of them. Enjoyed this tutorial.
I love it when there is a photo of the quilt in the fabrics that have been chosen. So much easier to see how it goes. I also like it when you show the photo with the fabrics in different positions. It really is a different quilt just by placing the fabrics in other spots. Love your videos! Thank you.❤
I did an experimental block once where I didn't realize my floral was directional until way too late. I cut up the block so that no 2 areas of that fabric were going the same direction. It is one of my favorite blocks now. Sometimes embracing the mistake works.
I made Park Place quilt with fabric 1 was a directional fabric. It was also used in a strip assembly with fabric 3 to make a 4 patch. I realized in time that the block was going to be upside down when I rotated the segment. I ended up make half the strip with fabric 1 upside down and half right side up. Worked great.
Thanks for the pattern and directional fabric lesson. I try and avoid these directional fabrics…a secret mystery in quilting everyone is afraid to talk about!
Perfect timing as I recently purchased directional fabric. Looking through my Quilts in a Jiffy book and think I can use the Crossroads pattern. Thanks for the video and the free download Fran!
Wonderful tips on directional fabrics, thank you for this video. Your explanations are very easy to follow & I now have a much clearer understanding of how to pick patterns for directional fabric.
I used Easy Street and had to pick and restitch some blocks. The next time, I learned that I could sew one of the strips on the opposite side and it worked great. :) Thanks for the tips and tricks!
I'm working on a quilt from "Quilts in a Jiffy". It's the one that has the 9.5 inch square and the 9.5 inch half square triangle. I unintentionally used a directional fabric in the half square triangle. Luckily I realized my "mistake" before I began sewing the triangles. With a bit of forethought I was able to keep the hearts all running in the correct direction! I absolutely love how it's turning out!
Thank you Fran! I've really enjoyed your recent videos on using fabric. You explain things so clearly, and I love that you work in tips on design and use of color. Very helpful! Looking forward to more!
I appreciate the detail on directional fabric. A next step would be the details for use of directional fabrics in half-square triangles. Please help. I avoid directional prints in half-square triangles.
Fran, have you ever considered when printing the books putting in a author note stating this is great for directional fabrics? I have been watching all the videos and making notes on which patterns work best. I don't know why I have so many directional fabrics!!! Thank you.
Hi Carolyn! We carry the majority of our fabric in kit form. We do have that fabric available in its kit, you can find it here - www.fabriccafe.com/Daisy-Delight-3-Yard-Quilt-Kit-p/8022592.htm
Great explanations! I've never considered directional fabric as being so complicated but I guess it is! You've explained it so well I feel very confident it won't give me any problems! Thank you! 😊
Hello Fran Great video today. My favorite was California lilies. Thanks for the video today showing directional fabric and patterns. The information sheet with the top 10 patterns is very useful. I have downloaded it already. But have not made any directional fabric prints yet. But in the future it will be very helpful to go back and watch this video so I saved it. Looking forward to more videos.
So love the renderings. I think I have all your books but use my fabric typically. I’m not a fan of the economy binding, probably because I’ve never tried it.😊
What is the name and manufacturer of that colorful striped fabric at the beginning of the video used to explain the 3 types of directional fabric? I haven't seen anything like it before.
❤ Great video to unlock the possibilities!
Love Carolina Lilies! Such beautiful fabric choices! Thanks for great info, Fran, I’ve learned a lot.
Excellent Fran!!

That is a gorgeous kit, with beautiful fabrics!
I adore the Carolina Lilies fabric! 12:51
Thank you so much for this information ❤
Beautiful quilts. I am a beginner, so I am happy to learn about everything!
Carolina lilies looks like the tiger lilies we see along the road side in South Carolina. Very beautiful fabric.
Thank you for showing so many ways you can use directional fabric.

Amen! I love it Sarah!
Yeah, love when you show images.
Great information about directional fabric Fran. Thank you.
I really like the last one using the mandala fabric, but it sure looks like aqua to me on my screen and not green.
What we would useful is a small note on each pattern advising if it is not suitable for a directional fabric!

Can I just say WOW...Fran you did a great video today, a good teaching for beginners and long time quilters...
Thank you so much, Rena! We worked really hard on this one.
Thanks for the pattern and directional fabric lesson. I try and avoid these directional fabrics…a secret mystery in quilting everyone is afraid to talk about!
This was great information! Please continue with a part 2 for cutting half squares (as in Landslide) and half rectangles!
I learned my lesson!
Perfect timing as I recently purchased directional fabric. Looking through my Quilts in a Jiffy book and think I can use the Crossroads pattern. Thanks for the video and the free download Fran!
Great show Fran, useful information that I can use, enjoy seeing the mock-ups, really helps you appreciate fabric choice
This was very informative! Thanks, Fran!
Excellent tutorial Fran. Thanks so much I needed this lesson 😊
I seem to always pick directional fabrics! Thanks for the tutorial!
Wonderful tips on directional fabrics, thank you for this video. Your explanations are very easy to follow & I now have a much clearer understanding of how to pick patterns for directional fabric.
As always excellent explanations and examples, Fran. Really enjoyed learning from this video. Thank you! Off to download that tip sheet now. 🙂

Can you guys do a book of nothing but patterns using all directional fabrics? 😊
Thank you Fran! I've really enjoyed your recent videos on using fabric. You explain things so clearly, and I love that you work in tips on design and use of color. Very helpful! Looking forward to more!

Hi David! Fran actually talks a bit about this in a previous episode, you can check it out here - th-cam.com/video/hO6zxcWOgaE/w-d-xo.html

That would be a great idea, I struggle too and would love a note on the patterns
Great idea, Linette! We are thinking of several ideas to help identify which patterns can be used with directional fabric. 😊
I love the fabric that you used in your demo quilt with the daisy with a black background in it for the Sew Quick pattern. Is it still available?
Hi Carolyn! We carry the majority of our fabric in kit form. We do have that fabric available in its kit, you can find it here - www.fabriccafe.com/Daisy-Delight-3-Yard-Quilt-Kit-p/8022592.htm

Thanks so much for this video, Fran. Sometimes I just need to see the possibilities!
How about when making a 4 patch? So when you cut the squares in half the small squares face the right direction
Did you make your lovely blouse? What is the pattern or where do you order them from? Thank you, Cindy Nelson
Hi Cindy! I get a lot of my blouses from shopmyfairlady.com!
It never occurred to me to use a border fabric in a block. What a great idea!

I've been working on a stepping stones quilt with 2 one directional fabrics. It was a bit of a bear to get them upright. Ready to add borders now:)
What is the name and manufacturer of that colorful striped fabric at the beginning of the video used to explain the 3 types of directional fabric? I haven't seen anything like it before.
Hi Betty! It is the Nitty Gritties line from Blank Fabric!
I should have had this a week earlier as I'm in trouble with the Heritage pattern with flowers.
