I am SO impressed this man was willing to actually do this for educational purposes only. I have had 3 different NG tubes within a period of 2 years and I am amazed he did that willingly and furthermore, without gaging or vomiting. Those students have no idea what a terrible experience that really is and even to see it in person really cannot convey the feeling of “I’m going to die” when drinking at the same time in order to get the tube down the correct passage. He was very, very controlled. This man truly is a dedicated professional and is a gem among gems.
I have had abut a dozen awake. Them telling me to swallow, swallow, swallow Makes me want to shove it up their nose. He took it like a pro. Myself as a man I would take a large bore Foley over a NG? tube& I have had far more Catheters than NG tubes.
I refused to let an NG tube be inserted into me when I went through chemo as a teenager and had a bad methotrexate reaction. It wasn't the tube that bothered me, it was lying there still while someone fed a tube into my face. I ridiculously proposed that I did it to myself and somehow they agreed. To this day I'm baffled that they did. They gave me some milk, and a doctor sat with me, taking me through every stage, what I'd feel in my head and what I'd feel in terms of resistance as the tube navigated up my nose and back down through my throat. It took a lot longer than this video, but I couldn't be happier that I did it. And I'm so glad that they let me.
If this was how all med professors were....I'd switch to a med degree in a heartbeat! Engaging, down-to-earth, intelligent professors are an absolute gift to this earth...thank you George!!! You are hugely inspiring.
I watched my brother's nurse insert a tube down his nose today. He's also on a ventilator so there was no swallowing while it was placed. I'm not in the medical field myself for good reason, but I'm very thankful for all of you who are able to stomach the blood and guts of things. Without medical staff my brother wouldn't still be here, so thank you!
Making light of the situation…these students have no idea how bad this process can be, but furthermore and extended period of time (days or weeks) with one placed is also not to be taken lightly. Great video
I am a 50 year old college student. I'm old and not easily impressed. You Sir, definitely caught my attention. So much that I ran upstairs with my laptop in hand, screaming for my husband to watch this video.
I’m late but I would like to ask you something, did you go to nursing school at 50 years old? If so why? Is nursing school worth it? Is being a nurse with it? I would really like to know as I’m trying to decide whether to become a nurse or not
@@autumn399 Yes I did. I graduated this past May at 51 years old. Nursing school is hard and I had to make a few sacrifices to complete it but I can say that it was definitely worth it. I am now a Med Surge nurse and the sense of accomplishment is immeasurable. I had always wanted to be a nurse and decided to go back to school when my sons were settled into their adult lives. My patients are very ill when they come to the floor. Watching them heal and knowing that I had a small part in that healing process makes all the stress and tears of nursing school very much worth it. Best wishes to you!
I've had this procedure done due to having a bowel obstruction. Not a pleasant experience. Once the NG tube was in place, an x-ray confirmed the placement. Uncomfortable until you get use to it. Glad when it was removed! Thank you for demonstrating the procedure the correct way!
My wife is an ECMO nurse and I've heard her talk about NG tubes. Myself, I have nothing to do with the medical field, yet I found myself here, watching you put one of these tubes into your own nose...
Going on my 4th Ng insert this month… I’m watching videos on how to relax and make this process for me as painless and comfortable as it can be… thank you.
I'm completely intolerant to ng tubes. Last time I had a sbo they had to remove it after 8 hours because I was vomiting several times an hour (I also couldn't talk at all, I would gag), I have an extreme gag reflex. I could never do this to myself without projectile vomiting all over the table, mad props to the instructor.
I am so IMPRESSED!!! this man actually did to himsef and demonstrate infront of his students. and the end of the results also was UNEXPECTED and AWESOME!!! you are great👏👏👏👏 . lastly as a nursing student i have got seen how to insert it lively. Thank you so much!!!
Impossible to comprehend how can anybody have the strength to do this. How could you manage to insert it into yourself ??? You truly remarkable👍👍👍 I could hardly manage to see it and you actually lived through it 🤔🤔👍
Omg.....just for the video and to educate others. That is amazing. I currently have a NJ (goes into the intestines than stomach), but I’ve had a NG and I would’ve never done this. He is amazing!!!
Thats a hero right there. I have had this procedure done a few times and its something i dont look forward to at all...very uncomfortable and to see someone do it to themselves ... big respect to you sir!
Thank you for this technique. I was not sure if I placed the NGT correctly to my father. I heard rumbling with the stet but I am still doubtful. We have no PH test strip. I let my dad drink his milk. I aspirated milk and I felt relieved!!
I may need an NG tube soon and I’m absolutely terrified. This was so reassuring to watch. I know I’ll probably gag and cry, but at least I have a better understanding of what’s happening. Much love 💚
@@blakehaynes5842 Luckily I was able to avoid getting an NG, though some of my friends were force intubated without their consent and it was a frankly traumatic experience to hear their screams. :/
I just had one done because of a bowel obstruction and it was the most pain I’ve ever felt in my life. I wonder what the nurses could have done differently. This guy felt no pain at all.
This is amazing! I needed to look into this procedure for a story I'm writing, and you were such a delight (even in spite of this nightmare content). Thank you!
I have had over 60 NG tube placements in my life it’s uncomfortable but you get use to it and it’s really not too bad I’m about to learn how to insert one into myself
@@oliviahurley79 same. Idk how to go about doing this myself. Idk where to start. Ive seen people buying ng kits and doing it themselves for nutritional values if eating is causing problems and only having it for a few weeks. I know i need it but dont know how to go about it. This video was so helpful tho. Any suggestions? 🥺
Please help. Is there anyone know if one can be permanent on tube feeding. Also can you still try to eat solid food while you are on it. Thank you so much.
What asepsis/antisepsis rules must be observed during the activity when inserting the nasogastric tube? Or if it is not needed, then what is the reason? Thank you!

Bro he literally inserted the tube into himself

George, you are one out of a thousand teachers. Great humor, courageous personality and clarity in explaining. Thank you!

giving patients the option to try on themselves could reduce a lot of medical trauma

Thank you for the demonstration. You are a brave man and dedicated teacher. I hope there was something strong in your drink.
There wasn't but maybe i should next time. Thanks for the advice. lol
This was the best demo I've seen since nursing school. The teacher really took one for the team. His demo was far better than on any mannequin.
as a medical resident id like to say thank you to this legend

i wonder if using 2 tubes to breathe instead of spraying 2 weeks of nose spray is better for your nose internally?
