    The fact that you did this job by yourself and welded it also is saying alot. Thanks for the video. We all start somewhere and I wished I had a welder so I can practice.. thanks again

      Take the plunge and get yourself a secondhand 120v welder. If some other schmuck can do it so can we.

    What we have to go through to keep our trucks and cars longer. But it's worth it thanks for showing.

    Thank you for posting this! I just went to a muffler shop and they suggested this type of repair to save money. I always do my research and look for a repair video so I know I'm not gettin played 😂 This shows perfectly what he described. Keep posting 😁

    Nice work and kudos for attempting this repair. I am a welder by profession and all that you need to remember is that looks aren't everything. Functionality is the most important part. If it holds and doesn't leak, then your weld was a success... (and you didn't blow through and leave globs of metal inside to restrict flow. lol. But lets assume you didn't.) Good job.

      Thank you for the support! My father works at a machine shop and always starts lurking around me with a hammer when he knows I'm welding. 😁 So I'll know if the welds or not. As for exhaust flow, it definitely still had it. 👍

    Myself, I find that being outside with wind and snow really enhances the repair experience.
    Anyway, great work, because it works, and we need working solutions.

    Thanks for the video especially working in those weather conditions. I cracked up when you found a good section of bead. I’m the same way I’ll be welding good then all of sudden the notorious blob. Lol

    You just wanted to bust out the welder. It happens sometimes. Good work.

    I can't remember the last time I looked under someone's truck to see their welded exhaust. Wait a sec...I've never done this. I don't care what your welds look like. If they're solid they're perfect.

      I don't believe I did, but probably would be better safe then sorry and discount it.

  • @jdmInteriors

    Can you get any flange Connection as long it is the right size (or close)? The part sites say you need to get the specific flange connection for your car. Your thoughts are appreciated. Thank you. Excellent video.

    What’s the flange name exactly? I can’t find one for a ranger

    Why didnt you took whole pipe out and welded all around the flange? Wasnt that easier and cleaner weld just curious to know if there is an issue to take whole unit out.

      To avoid a nightmare. With a truck that old and any work on an undercarriage - especially things that get hit and cold over and over again - you really risk (highly likely) breaking a lot of components. A lot of them won’t come off without snapping or crumbling.

    What type of welder did you use and is the flange stainless? Thanks.

    • @HitchinMitch
      @HitchinMitch  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just used the harbor freight welder and it was not stainless.

    I think you should charge the buddy $250 + for all that ...in that environment. LOL When it warms up the welding will work better too....Nice.

    Is there a benefit to replacing it with a a new pipe flange v.s just straight piping it?

    • @HitchinMitch
      @HitchinMitch  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Incase you ever have to remove just part of the exhaust your have the ability to. Otherwise you could just do a straight pipe.

    • @kyleclinger8900
      @kyleclinger8900 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If removing the coupler and replacing with straight pipe will it cause flex problems or no

  • @diymotorcycling1719

    how did you get clearance to weld the top of the pipe?

    • @HitchinMitch
      @HitchinMitch  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very carefully, my welding gun barely had room but I was able to sneak it in up there.

    • @HitchinMitch

      I found it on ebay. I just searched exhaust flange and the size I was looking for.

      If old flange in fair shape save on labor and use C Flange Bracket.

  • @chriscutrona5702
    @chriscutrona5702 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What is the point of the flange? Are they necessary in the exhaust?

    • @HitchinMitch
      @HitchinMitch  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think they are completely necessary but they are helpful if replace parts of the exhaust system or having to pull the motor. It is more convenient.

    No leaks is all that matters. Who cares what it looks like
