barry switzer made a comment on the reunion video that after going back and watching these old games i whole heartedly agree with it. he was talking about the nebraska defense of today and back then. he said "those black shirts are not the black shirts of today!" these games were straight up dog fights! man i miss them!
I remember watching this game. I wasn't a Big 10 guy, but as a Western Arkansas kid, I was very anti-Oklahoma, and so a Nebraska fan by default. I'll never forget Jarvis Redwine because of 1) the long TD run in this game at 12:15 and 2) his cool name.
Jarvis Redwine? No where near as cool a name as David Overstreet, Buster Rhymes or Julius Caesar (JC) Watts.....OU Forever! NU Never. Switzer is an Arkansas Razorback too.
husker hammer Not a shame, as Huskers we did everything we could to maintain the rivalry. The maroon folks? They didn't care so much. So they're in the Texas Conference , hoping America cares about their "rivalry" with Oklahoma State. And "SHOCKINGLY" it's not going well.
husker hammer The Turner Gill era started (even though Gill did not play in the 1981 game). Its a good thing Gill didm't play in 1981 or it would of been 57-14 and not 37-14! In 1982, OU had a chance to win but started to throw at the Husker 35 yard line on two straight drives! 1983, well, that team was so dominant.
robert buck 1983 OU was yards away from tying or going for 2 to win! And there looked like a clear interference penalty on NU aginst #3 Shepard but was NOT called NU ESCAPED NORMAN WITH THERE LIVES...THAT YEAR....28.21
SOONERS VS. HUSKERS NOTHING MORE NEEDS TO BE SAID FOR THE THRONE OF THE LATE GREAT!! BIG 8 CONFERENCE ...SOONERS BIG 8 CHAMPS...1980,84,85,86,87.....HUSKERS BIG 8 CHAMPS..1981,82,83,88,89...RIP YOU ARE MISSED
I have both but are limited. The 1979 Texas-OU doesn't start until mid-2nd quarter as the World Series ran late on ABC (yes, that was a fact of life in 1979). The 1980 game is really trash as it is from ESPN classic and more edited than usual. Maybe 45 minutes to an hour of actual football.
I also have unbeaten Houston at unbeaten Arkansas in 1979, which I never see floating around. A few months ago I saw someone uploaded 1-loss Texas at unbeaten Houston in late 1979, which I never thought existed anywhere. It appears to have been deleted however.
robert buck No, Robert. I was a kid who went to his first Husker games when Jarvis was the best IB in the country and I've made that my user name. This was the 3rd Husker game I ever went to. I hate that we lost, but the memory of #12 runnin down the sideline on that first touchdown actually made me a football fan. I've never forgotten that. Great game. Great rivalry, that we've lost, because OU hid behind tu's skirt.
jredwine12 I agree about OU siding with the 'shorthorns" I wish Nebraska would come back to the Big 12 as Missouri and Colorado and get rid of the "shorthorns" texas did in the SWC too. They are toxic. With that said, I remember the OU-Neb game of 1980 like it was yesterday! I'm from Minnesota, so we were forced to watch regional action, which was Ohio-St vs Michigan that day. Both games were at 11:00. I remember the updates from that game. I remember the 89 years run and Redwine taunting the OU defender from about the 30 yard line! That Nebraska lost two games at home, which should not of happened. I really think Nebraska should of played Turner Gill. I think he was a true freshman. Jeff Quinn was solid, but not the speed or skill of Gill. Nebraska was a QB away from winning the title. They shut everyone down that year! Great rivalry!!! Some of my best memories with my family on those Thanksgiving Fridays or third Saturdays in November! Do you have any more games? If so, I hope you post them!
That run, cut and late pitch from J.C. Watts to Buster Rhymes was EPIC!!!!
Saturday afternoon, OU, The WISHBONE and Bill Flemings voice = great childhood memories.
YES
Amen
As a BIG TIME fan of Oklahoma Running Backs, I had a major love for some of Nebraska's backs starting with I.M. Hipp and Jarvis Redwine!!!
not to mention Terry Miller and Earnest Anderson at OSU!
The OU legend Steve Davis with color commentary. RIP
12:15 fantastic 89-yard run by Jarvis Redwine after receiving the pitch on the speed option to the strong side.

I went to this game. It was cold.
Thanks for sharing this classic!

kmfurr1 red wine made a mistake when he taunted those ou players. he got 33 yards in 12 carries after that run.

@@DocSportello1970 And Horace Ivory and Elvis Peacock...
Ugh, I remember this game. Heartbreak again at end. But NU owned the Sooners the next three years. What a great rivalry, shame it had to go away.

1981 Yes Not in 1982.or 1983 2 more great games down to the wire which fell NU'S way

STEVEN That was a great game. No overtime in those days but I suspect Switzer as Osborne, would have gone for the win.
i was there. my heart is still broken.
Wow ... that nebraska field ... looked so blue on tv ... all those years ago ...
Thank you Jarvis.
I swear that sounds like Keith Jackson naming the offensive line for Oklahoma at the beginning of this game
Is there a Jarvis Redwine play along the sideline? If so, can someone tell me at what point?

Sooner Magic!
I'm ready for OU/NEB 2021. BOOMER!!
23-16 OU
Does anyone have Oklahoma vs Stanford from this year on dvd?
1) Oklahoma had them afros! 2) Busta Rymes! 3) Sad to see this rivalry be the unfortunate first casualty of conference realignment.
Anybody know how to get Texas OU or Texas vs ATM 1979 or 1980?

Dan Hurley RT? In high school I think he was a fullback.
Are you the Jarvis Redwine that played for Nebraska in 79-80?

+jredwine12 This was the first college football game I ever watched. I was 7! I took to the red uniforms right away and am a Husker fan to this day.
@@jredwine12 your welcome to be a sooners now
Anthony Steele, RIP.
My late older brother and I were at this game. Two students sold us their tickets. $25 each. Sooner magic doomed us again.
See your two year scouts of Alabama and Nebraska.
2:14:21. That would be targeting if it was today..
Red shirt added who glued 20 game shirt and the espionage seen on caril andy fool play.

Pepper liver and salt onion.
Another choke job at home against OU by Nebraska.
