Hey JR, just watched your pba television debut in the 2014 TOC. I had no idea of the depth of your experience, I just knew I liked your videos. Now I know you're the real deal and have a greater respect for what your doing. Great job JR!!!
Very well explained, I drill up my own balls using duel angle and they tend to start up too soon with nothing left on the back end. Will try using this layout process. Thank you
Any idea why asymmetrical balls might not work well for certain bowlers? Or what layout on asymmetricals do you recommend for people that tend to do better with symmetrical balls?
Hey JR, I’m new to bowling. I was gifted a motiv rouge assassin, and have no idea how to have it payed out. I went to a few pro shops in my area and all said they would do their best, that really didn’t convince me. I believe I am considered a stroker style player/ speed dominant player. Mind you I have ever only played with the house balls. If you can recommend a ball layout using the formula on this video or others for my type of play I would very much appreciate it. I watched the review you did on the rouge Assasin, thought you can help shed some light on the subject. Thanx
Mo Monday just put out a video today that might help you. According to Mo it will be a pretty basic layout. Big problem a this point is you don't have a positive axis point (PAP) to a custom fitted ball yet. Once your ball is drilled the pro shop operator can easily find your PAP. That will help for future ball purchases and layouts.
The trackflare profile for symms is always bell-shaped with 3.375" being maximum, but the Blueprint trackflare study shows that asymms with high PSA values can have MORE flare (and forward roll) at 5-6" pin-PAP than at 3.375" pin-PAP, depending on the position of the PSA, with the trackflare profile being a slope. blueprintbowling.com/Documents/Bowling%20Ball%20Track%20Flare%20Explained.pdf
I just got my ball drill today and the guy that drill my ball didn't do any of these stuff you doing. All he did is measure my figure tips...now when I bowl it hurts my thumb plus it hook so off I c ant even control it...is that normal? Should I go get my ball redrill?
Also another reason to have a regular pro shop you attend. If you’re traveling to different shops they won’t have your pap. That’s the key to doing these layouts.
I wish there was a pro shop that went this in depth in northern lower Michigan. My local pro shop refit me recently and just kind of went, WELL THIS LOOKS RIGHT 😑
@@tylerstine784 that's on a symmetric core. Asymmetrical cores flare more the farther you get from the PAP. Max flare would be between 4-6" depending on the mass bias position on a strong assym
@@gibby9209 didn't read asym lol. Yes that's dependent on mass bias. If you put it in its weakest position though 3 3/8 will still be max flare stronger position you place the mass bias the further you can go with pin to get more flare.
how you guys drill every ball 5 inch pin to pap i'll never understand. why skid the ball 10 feet before you get to the pocket and make it come in hard? I do that and I leave 10 pins all day long and or face nasty splits. 4 - 4 1/2 with a 45 val works best if you want a smooth reaction. 5 inch or 5 1/2 i'm coming in behind the headpin. I Don't know how you do it JR lol
That's a lot of math... 😆 Good thing you know what you're doing. I was doing fine until you incorporated the two systems together... You drill em and I'll roll em... lmfao
To me, getting a pro to take the time to explain, watch you bowl, help choose a ball and show layout is tough. Most of these guys nowadays just want to sell a product and get you out the door..
This is amazing! Thanks for explaining the two systems JR; much appreciated. I will definitely come back this post again and again as a reference.

Thanks JR been looking for video showing both types of layouts. This helped me alot to understand them.
Nice! Well done on explaining how it's done, easy to follow and understand.

Thanks for the video. Looking forward to this series
Where do you get the bowtie from and how much inquiring minds want to know
Great video JR ...
I was wondering the same thing where do you get the bow tie from?
i have got uesd ebonite cyclone ball. i want to drill this ball 2 hand. how can i do this? layouts? 5*4*4 or 4 1/2*4 1/2*4 1/2 or recommends?

JR, curious if you've used the VLS excel spreadsheet for coming up with recommended layouts where you enter the player specs and lane conditions.
I havent but a good idea

If it hurts definitely get it looked at

@@Tenpindoctors i think i am just going to bowl without using my thumb just gotta relearn how to bowl
@@etan5716 you right but I don't bowl much just started to bowl so I don't have a regular place to bowl yet....
Thanks

On a high track player wouldn’t that hit the finger hole?
Wow that seems like a lot.
J R my name is Gary and I like the Hammer Pink Widow if you have a pin farther away from your pin will it give you more hook than I’d pin is closer
Max flare on an Asymmetric is not 3 3/8".
From your positive axis point it sure is. 3 3/8 puts the core in it's most unstable and violent position

Longer pin doesn’t mean longer skid. Generally means less flare and smoother transition from hook to roll phase

I don't like this system. I like the dual angle.
