Why did Harken go with stainless shackle rather then aluminum (for weight reduction?). Really like the gate; any chance we will see that adapted to the foot ascender as an option to retain the rope in place? (seems like it would be pretty easy to just reach down and flip the gate open).
Hi, thanks for your comments. We opted for the stainless steel shackle for its strength and durability in less-than-ideal environments over aluminum. As for the gate mechanism on the Ninja Foot Ascender, we felt that it was easier to kick out of if we kept the gate off of the device and allowed the cleats to keep the rope in place while climbing. Looks nice. I really like my Notch/Ninja foot ascenders. Mounted one to my Klein spurs and have another to put around my boot, depending on the day.
