This guy is great ~ thanks for a well done and well described video! Now, how would you like to make me one and I'll pay you for it as I no longer have the patience, sufficient tools or physical strength, due to health related problems, to make one. I really want to juice with this method in the hopes of trying to feel better with proper nutrition.
Amazing!! This is exactly what I was looking for... was just telling my dad there's gotta be a way to make a Welles press for much less than what it cost. Thanks so much!
These skills should be taught to EVERY student in school. Easily as important as any science or math class and far more practical. To think of all the money we waste buying ridiculous stuff we could make ourselves. And when we make it ourselves we can custom tailor it to our exact needs making it far more valuable to us.
I actually did something like this in school! I forget the name of the subject but it was one of the ones in the art department, a chosen class obviously but still, they do teach it
I was planning one out in my head when I decided to see if anyone had already made one. Very nice, easy to understand video instruction. Mine would have been much more expensive as I was thinking I needed steel plates and 5/8" rod. I downsized from a house to a small apartment and no longer have many tools. Also disabled and need to sit to work. But I think I can make something.. "One of these days."
Omg this is amazing I've been researching for hours affordable cold press juices to start raw press juice business in Ghana, Africa! And I found this!!!! Wow! I'm sure I can find handy ppl in Ghana to do this for me next to nothing thank you
Hey, if that would work out for you, that would be absolutley amazing! Please let me know if anything happens, or even send me a video of your progress from time to time! I might do an update video sometime!
I'm glad that you pointed out that you've done metal bending before, because you made it look so easy. Enjoy the video. Probably not going to build one but I enjoyed watching it and will look for more of your videos.
Thank you very much! I actually wanted to get the oposite across. Bending sheet metal with the proper equipment is a piece of cake. But, the equipment should not stop one from doing awesome things!
Wow you blew my mind. I just googled this and when I started my project you had not made your video. I have a 15 ton Shop press that I have been using for car maintenance in the garage. I wanted an 8 ton but when I had it delivered they delivered a 15 ton (total over kill) I rang the delivery place and they thought I would be using it solely for car maintenance and had no idea that I would be using it for juicing in the future. They thought they were doing me a favor as the 8 ton was out of stock. LOL. Thank you so much for the specs sheet and an awesome awesome awesome video. I pressed juice in it the other day for the first time. The press component was nothing close to your standard and I will have to make version 2 according to your specs with some of your ideas. Yet again thank you!!! Kind Regards Wayne
Wow. With 16 tons you can squeeze a huge area! Make it bigger if you can. That way you get more produce in a flatter fabric bundle. Reduces the load on the filter fabric and saves you from doing multiple presses.
The parts: Threaded rod and the top and bottom wood plates are easy to get locally. Even the jack is available in many hardware stores. What is needed is the pans. That is something not available that you used tools to make that most people don't have and don't have the work area to do it even if they had the tools. I have to comment on your voice and attitude. Its very unique. Its positive of course but its also so much more. It sounds engenius. People get inspired by voices like yours. You should teach courses. Your voice and attitude is gold. Its positive without sounding unrealistic. Its just the perfect balance. I believe you would connect with the masses like very few others.
I think I could make this with a stainless steel steam pan they sell from restaurant supply sites. Ebay and Amazon also sells them, they come in all sizes. I will drill a hole in the front and attach a length of plastic tubing that can go directly into a container.
Take the pulp and add it to a food dehydrator to make fruit or vegetable powder. Drying time will be super fast since you’ve removed the liquid and it will easily be powdered in any grinder.
Great Job. I would recommend grinding (smaller shreds) or even s-blade the produce better before pressing for a higher yield. Of course, I personally would rather use a single-step juicer.
Hi, is there an alternative material I can use for the plywood parts? All the plywood I’ve found is so expensive, I’ve never done a project like this before so idk how much wood is meant to cost but it seems like a lot, also what kind of glue is used to put them together?
BIG WINNER! - but don't forget to include some pulp - for fiber and chewing sense. To do this naturally, takes a vat to squeeze in, and then agitation and pouring - possibly in multiple passes, with addition of a concentrated source of natural Vit C like Ascerola to maintain the strength. Just add Stevia for great taste.
Can you crush corn kernels? If I can get them smaller, I can run them through a grain mill that has an opening too small for the undamaged kernels (or so I've read; I haven't bought the mill yet).
Get a nylon nut bag and it will last a lot longer and is easier to clean. I use a 6 ton bench press and a food grinder to make our juice. Thanks for the awesome tips!
Please I want to know if it's possible to get an hydraulic press for extracting only citrus i.e orange. I'm having difficulties using manual extractor to press half of oranges . I get very tired and it's time consuming.
Took the thoughts right out of my head, excellent video! I was looking into buying a hydraulic juice press but they are so expensive for such a simple concept. Subscribed I'm planning on modifying a gastronorm that I picked up cheaply for the tray and considering fabricating a simple surround for the lower half to cover up the jack and make it a little bit more aesthetically pleasing.
Thank you for your innovative way of making a it helps those that are starting out in the morning to learn more just by the video that you have presented thank you so much have a great day
I was thinking about making one of these recently and here you are making one. Now I don't have to do anymore thinking but follow your design. however I want to make the plate a big bigger so I can put a larger sized batch in there. one thing you can do which they do with these two step juicers you pay 2000 dollars for is put more than one wrapped bag in at a time so you can juice more at once. good job and thanks for the excellent video.

Two things I notice with this build: 1) you need to make sure the base plate that is attached to the head of the jack is level, 2) I would probably counter sink the bottom nuts so that the entire unit sits flat so the the forces from the jack does not BEND the base. I avoided the metal container and plunger and just place the materials in a ziplock bag with a hole at the bottom and slant the entire unit to allow drainage.

Nice build! The only thing I would have changed would have been to fit a hose bib handle with a rod to the open close valve of the hydraulic jack since I think it would last longer and allow more of a turning angle. Also it might help to make the plastic press plate slightly concave to help keep the material from squeezing out the sides. Great job and very useful.
Best way would be to use a CNC router if you have access to one. But just slightly concave otherwise the center stuff would not get compressed as much.
what can I use to make a coconut coir machine? I want it to be able to produce coir duct from coconut husk. Also how can I make an electronic greater for coconut and how can I make a shredder for fruits and vegetables?
Great project! I can only find an 8 tonne hydraulic jack in my area, which is still cheap as chips, however do you think this could produce too much pressure for the structure to handle? thanks
8tons is enough force to tear the threaded bar apart. I calculated it. Especially if you use stainless steel. So either be carefull, or use thicker bars. 2 tons is enough though.
Great project! I have a question, how much bigger can you make your metal tray to be able to have more surface are? And can the hydraulic work just as good with more fruit?
The smallest jacks have 2Tonnes. Mine has 5 tonnes. 2tones is enough for my size. 5 tons is already overkill. With 5 tons, I could probably double the size. You can also get an 8 ton press. Be carefull though, 10mm rods are only big enough for 5 tons. 8 tons would strip the threads.

@@MaxMakerChannel You could monitor it for any signs of rust but I wouldn't trust my vision. Not sure how detrimental tiny amounts of rust would be to us though. Dude, you need to source this stuff. You are so close to having a great functional product. But to make it really marketable a compatible food grinder of some sort needs to be found. Perhaps a manual version (that doesn't need to clamp to a counter!) for people short on funds and a motorized one for people that can afford it. You have a $400 press there made out of $40 of parts and you know the parts cost will decrease the more you source things. If you can sell everything for $200 you'd have something great that should sell well. That's $200 for the press, not with the compatible grinder of course! You know, you make it look so easy! Hey Max I have a few questions. 1. How did you mount the jack to the bottom plate? 2. I couldn't find the right kind of flange to fit the car jack (I bought the jack linked in your instructable). Could you post a link to where I could order one? 3. I also could not find the steel plate that goes under the flange. Could you post a link to where I could order one?
Hey, they were parts for handrails. You can find them in any hardware store. They are used to mount a handrail to a wall. You can google handrail mounting flange.
What about when u are making juice blends example watermelon spinach orange or pineapple or something how do u work out the quantities for consistent taste. Please advise thanks
Hello, Please, could you send me the link from where I could get the cheese cloth, as I found in the internet but not the same type used in your video.
I live in a village in the south of Spain. Surrounded by olive trees, lemons, oranges and many other fruits. I am also finishing a desgidrator box. Fruit here is plentiful and cheap. So I will also be draying anything I can gen my hand on. The heat exchange bix I have made increase the temperature up to 80ºC, but I will only need 55ºC.
Hi! Awesome build, my fiancé and I are trying to do a version of it this weekend. We are having problems bending the piece of metal. It just doesn't want to budge! Do you think cutting out a plastic container to replicate the same shape would be another option?
+Amber Mittman Sure. Use what you can come up with. You could use a long plastic container, drill a hole at one end and then heat it up to form a small drop lip.
I live in the south of Spain - plenty of olives. The problem with cold pressing olive machines here is that they are too big and or too expensive. I refuse to buy from a Chinese manufacturer thus the curiosity for your machine's applications
I built this and I broke the bottom board the second time I used it. My board wasn't able to withstand the pressure of the 6 ton jack I used. So I glued the board(s) back together and this time I will put another board underneath the bottom board, glue it and screw it to the board the jack sits on with cutouts for the nuts so that the jack isn't finding the weakness in the bottom board. This will make it so there is no gap between the board the jack sits on and the counter.

We're a little jealous!
@@bobhoskins9595 I could bring it to market if someone lends me €50.000.
@@MaxMakerChannel Why would you need so much money?
Do you have one for sale ?❤
@@riesenblut7 Viel Erfolg!
more info on the polymer technique??
Hi again max can you tell us the dimensions of everythink you used ?
Hey its all in the Instructable in the description. Including the CAD files.
@@MaxMakerChannel hi it dosent say how tall is the juicer , how tall is your jack , the plywood only how thick is , i need to have an idea so to think how to fix mine , thank you
About 50cm tall and 35x35cm cross section.

What food processor did you use?
Can you provide the measurements of the stainless steel pan.
The pan was about 18x18cm. It can be made bigger than the plunger.
Hello,
Please, could you send me the link from where I could get the cheese cloth, as I found in the internet but not the same type used in your video.
Use what is called a "nut milk" bag.
Thanks for the vide & instructions. I will make one to press my own olive oil.
+Elias Ximenez Cool! Where do you live that you can grow olives?
I live in a village in the south of Spain. Surrounded by olive trees, lemons, oranges and many other fruits.
I am also finishing a desgidrator box. Fruit here is plentiful and cheap. So I will also be draying anything I can gen my hand on.
The heat exchange bix I have made increase the temperature up to 80ºC, but I will only need 55ºC.
Hi Max, just wondering if this press is effective with superfoods like ginger and tumeric?
I don’t know. Never juiced them. If you can get juice out by squeezing it, it should work.
Thanks for the reply! My fiancé was concerned the plastic would shatter due to the pressure of the jack. We'll give it a go! :)
+Amber Mittman Use something made from soft plastic.
Ok I'm in. Subscribed
Which food processor do you use? Thanks , your press is amazing!!!🤗
Thanks ; ) I grate them in a Bosch food processor. You know like Parmesan cheese.
You are a genius!!! thanks very much from Mexico, city.
Wow! Great design! Have you tried cold pressing olives for oil with this machine?
Thanks! I haven’t since they don’t grow in north of Germany. So if I bought some they would be expensive.
I live in the south of Spain - plenty of olives. The problem with cold pressing olive machines here is that they are too big and or too expensive. I refuse to buy from a Chinese manufacturer thus the curiosity for your machine's applications
Well. Can you squish them between your fingers? My press exerts about 8kg of force per square cm.
You could have used a ready made stainless steel tray for the tray, just bent a spout into it?
Sure!
Oh sorry to hear that. I used very thick baltic birch plywood. House building plywood is much weaker.
Is it available for purchase?
Unfortunately not.
Good idea!
I love your work neat and clean...
hey, you should make a good grinder too one that can really shread the stuff good :D awesome thing you built today my friend
you can buy a cheap unbranded one and it will do the job.
