    Crappy instructors, kudos to a rather gifted freefaller. Many other AFF 1 students would have panicked and tumbled/spun until the G force knocked them out. This guy actually managed a semi-stable state by not flailing unnecessarily.
    And he actually achieved a stable body position before the instructors caught up with him. Incredible.

    • @caseyrivera8947

      How do you turn over if you get stuck on your back? Or what do they teach students to do just incase?

    • @chongyiang
      @chongyiang 9 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      If you arch firmly, your body should assume the aerodynamic characteristics of a badminton shuttlecock, and you should automatically flip over into the stable body position.
      Spinning however is a totally different problem which arching might not solve. You'll need to lower your shoulder and look away from the direction of the skid.

    • @DiabloOutdoors
      @DiabloOutdoors 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I'm not sure about the sensory overload causing all this. It seems he miss stepped a little causing hi to go out of balance on the exit. And yes the instructor =s lost him and that girl is really an arse! She played the cool one at the end of the video when in fact she and the other, fucked up big time! I bet she never say sorry to the guy because people like her never do!
      This reminds me of a story in the Mediterranean see. I was scuba diving there on a charter boat owned by a friend. I was with another very experienced diver and we changed our plans because we were caught in a giant white storm as soon as we turned the corner of the island, f*cking up our dive plan. So we went back to the boat taking our time. Once there the my friend the captain asked me if we wanted to stay in the water to watch over a guy doing a scuba discovery with two instructor. He must had no trust in those instructors for asking us that...
      So we were there at the bottom, about 15 feet below those 3 and watching while relaxing when I saw the new guy showing some intense stress. But the instructors kept pushing him even tho it was evident the guy was close to panicking so I rapidly closed the distance and, just at the moment I arrived, the poor guy went into total panic seeing both instructors were keeping him under against his will. So the panicked guy threw away his reg from his mouth!!!! I just had the time to take hi away forcefully from these two morons and save the guy from drowning.
      The worst part was on the boat after. The instructors were female and male (like here) played down the whole thing and acted like if they were the top hot shots in the world. Not caring about the poor guy, not for even one second. They simply ignored him.. That girl in the video here had the exact same attitude as the scuba diving instructor.
      I filled a report against these two and wrote that it was even a close call for attempt murder since it was obvious the guy wanted out but they forced him.... Their C-card (instructor level) were taken away from them after the board reviewed their case.
      We, unfortunately, see this in every sport/activity. Those instructors should not be allowed to keep going... Lives depends on that!

    Pull priorities:
    1. Pull
    2. Pull at correct altitude
    3. Pull at correct altitude and while stable
    If you lose one instructor, continue diving. You should never lose your main chute instructor.
    If you lose two instructors, pull. Land and drive home and never return to that DZ. The instructors should be doing the same thing after jeopardizing your safety.

    Pay attention when they teach you about keeping your 'arch'. That's what will keep you stable. You can see a perfect illustration of this in the video. When he wasn't arched properly, he was falling fast and unstable. Watch closely and you can see him arch and go into a stable freefall at a speed where the instructors could catch up.

    i did my first aff a few weeks ago and i pretty much did the same thing he did on exit. i messed up the count so the three off us all exited at different times and ended up unstable, but i give credit to my instructors because they held on and the only thing i was thinking at the time was ARCH!! so we ended up stable within about 5-10 second and had a great rest of the dive.

    Looks like that happened in DeLand. The "briefing" in this school before the first AFF-jump is so intensive, that no student forget the "arch-look-reach-pull"-system for the rest of his life. So also this student found himself after same chaotic seconds in a pretty stable position.

    All Student parachute rigs are equipped with an Automatic Activation Device (ADD) which will deploy at around 1500 + feet if the student fails to use ripcord. All students are instructed on how to land.
    All AFF 1 students ware two radio recievers which the instructors use to direct their landing.
    Instructors always land before the student.
    Go to a Drop Zone and watch. It is fun and skydivers are friendly folks.

    Nobody can hold on to a tumbling person. The student knows he's supposed to go into hard arch so that doesn't happen, he did the exact opposite and bent over forwards. Its a natural reaction to protect your belly, but certainly not the instructors fault if the student freaks out and does the opposite of what they were taught to do.

    . After they blow the exit the student attempts to get face to earth but in the process gets head down for a second or two. At that point he accelerates faster than the instructors(also now head to earth) can and actually pulls away from them for a bit.
    However the training(and physics) kicks in and once he arches properly and gets stable, they are able to catch up.

    @MgpMontville The USPA Instructor Rating Manual states that whichever instructor who is not contributing towards stability on a funneled exit should be the one to let go. Some DZ's have as their policy that always the main side (JM1, in your case) hangs on. But in some instances, the reserve side could be doing just fine and the main is the one that's making things worse. Both have pros and cons. Neither is right or wrong, as long as both instructors have a plan and communicate beforehand.

    Nice jump plane... skyvan? Anyhow, I like at 1:06 when the instructor puts her hand up to her mouth to scream at him "ARRCH"!! lol.

    Student did great - that wash hits you and it's a serious ride, this video doesn't show the details of what happened initially... but he self righted (!) and they dropped in and pinched him - a "bad" jump can't go much better!

    Did anyone notice that these two pros were able to track into the student after he got stable. I think all did a great job.

    I was taught by the soviet free fall course (without instructors) so I'm curious, isn't it a basic rule to fly at least half an hour just to learn how to stabilize yourself?

    Big f**kin deal. I've come closer to death on a Greyhound bus. Everybody knows that if you really want to fulfill your death wish, you need to skydive at The Parachute Center in Lodi.

    @RP7Q9M Nope, my skydiving career is on hold. I'm on Maui, there's no windtunnel anywhere in the state, and the nearest DZ is on O'ahu, a 20 minute plane ride. I don't even know if they certify AFF. It'd be too expensive to jump the puddle every weekend, not to mention gear rental and class costs. Probably have to wait until I move to the mainland to pursue jumping again. :-(

    Training I've had says, if the instructor is not with me (in this case neither one of them) to deploy. "You lived, didn't ya?" Rather a cavalier question. I was reading today that the tone of a jump begins with the exit cadence. In this case, the exit was confusing. And going out backwards? Am I missing something here?

    My only comment was he was there to learn to jump without an instructor and that he did. I laughed when I saw, I think, both instructors chasing him down with urgency visualizing their thoughts of... oh sh!t.

    What I was told during AFF: Lose one instructor, continue the dive as planned. Lose both, immediately pull the chute. But, other schools may have different rules. Overall it looked like a good dive, although the instructor had to pull the chute.

    Excluding being on the outside of space station and floating away into space and re-entering earth like Felix Baumgartner, I don't see how there could be anything scarier for a human than when your parachute opens and you get sucked up another thousand feet. The shit to pants ratio for first timers has to be pretty even. I've been tied up and had a gun pointed at the back of my head, completely believing I was about to die....but if it was between that and this, I'd be asking if I could help them find something to tie me up with.

    • @slowfaller
      @slowfaller 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      you dont get sucked up when you deploy your chute. its an optical illusion, the camera man is still falling at full speed and the person theyre filming is decelerating since their parachute is opening

    It's not about balance. It's about relative wind. In the video his head should have gone the same way the plane was flying after stepoff. In that situation wherever your head goes your body will follow. New students try to use balance in the air for example when correcting themselves on a botched exit. In time you'll realize it's all about relative wind/deflection and staying "loose" while still holding the position.

    Sometimes, the torsion makes mandatory to let the student go...it's impossible to stay griped. The summary, in my opinion, results in a good work from the student and also from the JM's. Only AFF JM knows how sometimes its hard to do the job. Regards to all
