Honestly the improvement I see is wild! I hope you grow to love the changes in your face and nose from the front and side views. I understand the midline concern but that can be mended for sure. YOU’RE ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!
I agree with her. I think since we are so used to our faces (our identity) it's scary but your new profile is gorgeous and a midline issue usually is adjusted w braces. I had that done actually w invisalign. And now I need jaw surgery anyway lol! Good luck please keep up updated!!! Been waiting for this.
Please keep updating, the vlogs are very useful for those who are welling to do the surgery... and i would like to appreciate your courage of posting your journey for others to learn from... xoxo
Rachel, are you okay today, summer of 2022? You are a very lovely young woman. (Really a doll!)Those of us following your journey want so much for you to be happy. God bless you as you go forward and keep us posted on anything affecting the happiness you seek. But, know that you are a beautiful girl and I imagine you are loved by many. No matter what happens in this situation, YOU ARE DARLING!! Everyone else sees it, but of course, it’s most important for YOU to feel it. You have many people who are team Rachel!!
wow your swelling is down a ton at least. I’m 5 weeks post op but still super swollen. That’s confusing about your bite I feel like mine has shifted a little also since I got it (but lower jaw forward rather than to the side)
just watched your vid and I relate so much, no one really understands how much it effects you unless you go through it first hand. your swelling looks like its going down pretty quick too! I noticed the biggest difference when I went back to work around that time- being up moving/talking all day helped a ton (and I swear by the jade roller) it's honestly super concerning to me, just hoping it can be fixed. mine shifted a little forward also, but I think that's more common and can be fixed w Invisalign/rubber bands. I had to wait to get the scans done so I'm just now starting everything. wishing you the best❤️
okay first.. I love your brows!! and second thank you so much for being transparent with how you're feeling and what you're experiencing. I'm undergoing double jaw surgery for the same reasons except my upper jaw is too far forward and my lower jaw recedes. I'm MOST worried about how my chin looks post surgery because it is one of my biggest insecurities (along with my smile) but seeing you and how pretty you are before AND after surgury and still doubt whether it was worth it gives me hope that it's just a phase of healing. You & Shelby Church are both going through this phase at relatively the same time and with all the videos & research I've watched and read about jaw surgeries its completly normal to feel the way you both feel! It says its only suposed to take about 6 months to heal your jaw but everyone seems to forget that you also have to learn to love yourself again which seems to take about a year until "most" peope are completly happy with themselves. All you have to is persevere
Hi Lily, I was admiring her brows as well. 😍It sounds like yours and my bite and profile may be similar. My DJS is scheduled for March 2021. Good luck on your surgery.
5 months Post-Op ... my journey, well even though I would expect to recognize myself and feel 100% good about it , I’m still in the process of acceptance every day . I too struggle with my new identity bc I don’t complete recognize myself...yet. I’m still swollen from my jawline and I’m still somewhat numb . If I’m learning anything , it’s that every journey is unique. Most importantly I’m re-learning the value of mental strength because our thoughts really are POWERFUL .I was envious of the fact that you could open your mouth and eat soft foods (and talk ) I couldn’t. My mouth was completely shut with bands, ALL liquid diet for 1 month . I lost 13 pounds and questioned my decision as well. I’m healing , slowly but I’m healing and I know you will too !
Definitely over analysing, ur absolutely stunning😍 but I guess when it’s urself you can easily trip urself out. But u really are beautiful and tbh no matter what it’s all gunna work out so no need to worry😊
Your nose shape will slowly return to its original shape maybe after a year or so because of the swelling. Honestly I feel your pain, don’t make any final assumptions it’ll stay like that it takes a long time for swelling in different places to go down.
@@rachs9326 hang in there.. I had my upper and lower jaw surgery 14 days ago and it sucks. But I keep trying to tell myself it gets better.. im right there with u
I have been following your journey and you are soo strong! You honestly looked gorgeous before your surgery and you still look GREAT after surgery - but I understand your struggle with the different appearance all together... (nose, different smile, chin different) and this is my biggest fear... keep being positive and know that it will all work out in the end! Looking forward to your updates!!
Omg I dreamt of you uploading this video today !! Your side profile is looking so good, I’m kinda jealous 😊 you’re such a professional at editing these videos. You’re such a role model for me (because I want this surgery too). I love you and can’t wait for more videos ❤️
Thank you for sharing your experience in so much detail and honesty. I have to have this done and am beyond nervous. I don’t know is how to make the decision to leave my face in someone else’s hands
I had DJS 3 years ago and can completely relate to this. I felt good at first but the more the swelling went down the more I disliked my appearance. I don’t feel like I show enough teeth now when I smile naturally, my nose got wide, my chin isn’t the same and I lost feeling and my cheeks appear flat from the widening of my pallet. It’s such an awful journey. It’s really hard. 3 years later I would say I’m feeling a bit better but I’m not not happy with my new face. I think I was prettier before despite the less than perfect bite. My bite was actually worsened after I got braces which led me to surgery so I could have avoided all of it had I not wanted perfect teeth... so frustrating. Please update soon 💗 I hope you’re doing okay
thank you so much for this comment, everyone I've seen go into it has such a positive outcome so its nice to know I'm not alone feeling this way. I was so happy following the surgery, but as the swelling has gone down I'm just so upset w how everything turned out. I will say there were some positive changes, but my nose and the orthodontic situation has been extremely frustrating (bc I never had problems w either of these things before). I've been super upset about it the past few months, but at this point I'm just accepting it happened and I cant change it, so all I can do is change my perspective/mindset about it. so sorry you had the same feelings but I really appreciate you sharing, wish people were more open about this!
The most importanthing is the bites, not if you are pretty... why? Because when you are old you need your theeth working because if you lose the theet you also lose bone... sometimes is just because you think that is not your face, but that was always your real face, you was livibg with a Facebook that never was yours, and is your brinda which is playing with you... obviously you need a good orthodoncist and surgeon
@@rachs9326 Thank you both for your comments! I have a bilateral crossbite and an underbite, and multiple dentists keep bringing up this surgery in conversation (pressure?). I keep declining. My jaw sometimes dislocates and gets locked briefly. I understand the trouble. I wish you complete happiness and the resolve you are seeking. Best wishes.
Hello, just watched the video and thought id comment. I am into realistic drawing which means that i have learned to recognizing the correct proportions of the body. I really do think that you are just not used to your new looks, and you might not see your face how it really IS! You have no reason to fret, I can assure you that now your face looks aesthetically more beautiful and the proportions are mathematically more correct! So as far as the looks go you have won 100%. Hope the numbness will go away as you heal. Best wishes!
thank you, I will say it does look more proportionate back when I took this video than it does now that the swelling has gone down (my nose is now much bigger in proportion to my face), but what bothers me most is the asymmetry. I do hope you're right though, I appreciate your perspective on it!
@@rachs9326 The asymmetry could also just be an illusion since you're so used to "old" face. It's kinda like how in pictures we think we look worse because when we look in the mirror we're so used to seeing a flipped image of ourselves. Now that you've slightly altered your face, the asymmetry that was probably already there is just exaggerated to you because you aren't used to the same asymmetry on a different face. I'm not a doctor by the way, this is just my guess because you honestly look great to me. Also sorry if I'm being repetitive or not making sense - idk how to put my exact thoughts into words.
Hope everything went well! I personally text my surgeon all the time and hes usually always available to give me an answer. Would definitely recommend getting a good communication with your surgeon. Good luck! I’m also 4 weeks post op
thank you, hope your recovery is going smooth! my surgeon is just a text away too which I'm super grateful for, so communication hasn't really been an issue, he just says to start orthodontics
Great video. Super informative. It is normal to not like profile for a while but I also think you have some valid concerns. Can’t wait for your next video.
My dad got jaw surgery back in the early 2000s due to not being able to just close his mouth with ease. He’d always have to move it around to get it closed. He still says he looks in the mirror/pictures sometimes and is like “who is that”. It can definitely affect you, but you are doing a great job staying positive through it all! He also never regained feeling in his chin, which is insane to me.
thank you so much, I love hearing about others who have gone through it. oh noo I still don't have feeling in my chin either! just staying hopeful it'll come back.
Omg girl I’m so sorry you’re having to go through all of this with your concerns. I would def get a second opinion if both your surgeon and ortho don’t see it as an issue. Btw loving your video editing!
im 7 weeks tmj replacement - lefort 1 - and genio. honestly, ur bite seems a little far back. Something braces can fix with elastics, hopefully, but I dont understand why your chin is still crooked? I had that same thing preop but im much more symmetrical. Jaw surgeries are so individualized but I hope you've found a new ortho and surgeon just for ur mental state!!
Going in on Tuesday to get my overbite corrected. I've never been comfortable with my smile so anything will be an improvement! I'd love to have an update on your numbness that's what scares me most.
I was looking at your xray after and it looks like the left side is positioned more back than your right side there's also a small amount of arthritis on the tip of the condyle head. U can see the space differences between the joint and coronoid process. Like when u watch chiro videos and can see when someone's hips are lopsided
I hope you’re doing okay. Give us an update on your journey when you can? Since you did your surgery in nyc who was your surgeon? Planning on fixing my underbite soon.
"After speaking with my surgeon, my ortho denied having saying my smile was off". Well, doesn't that sound fishy to you? I think before you make any movements, that you find another ortho fro a second or third opinion. Would you really love to see an update in regards to the 2nd opinion I think this video has been very educating.
Hey! My Surgery is in 2 weeks and i am so terrified of my nose changing, you are lucky your nose does not look uneven, Cause it can happen. I am scared of my nose more than I am for my Jaw -_- . But you look so good and I hope you get better soon. BTW give us more updates sooner please you are super helpful. and talk about your pain, when did you Stop taking pain medicine?!
wishing you the best! I was never expecting such a huge change in my nose so its definitely been difficult. I would discuss it w your surgeon but at least you are aware going into it. I'm sure your surgery will go great- keep a positive mindset! I stopped taking pain meds the first week. I did continue taking Ibuprofen after because its also an anti-inflammatory which helped w the swelling
The line comparison it looked like the first one (the before) the line itself was crooked. Like look at it on your forehead. So that’s making it seem like your teeth were in line. I don’t know, could be wrong. I hope for an update soon! I hope it’s getting better for you
You look gorgeous. Absolutely beautiful! Just think how much better it's going to be in a year?! You're going to be even more of a smoke show! Hope mine goes well, the video was very informative!
Hi Rach, it’s me again hahaha. I hope you’re doing well and everything is going perfect. I would like to know if you would be comfortable (or are you thinking of) making another video for the 6 months ps. Only if you want to and if you’ll be okay with it. sending so much love ❤️❤️❤️
heyy, when you mention numbness in the mouth, are u referring to teeth as well?... my lower teeth r numb and not sure if thats common ( i had surgery 5 days ago)
Hope you are doing well! This might sound like a silly question but do all those screws stay in forever? I feel a little weird about having to get the metal plates and screws in me 😂 Looking forward to watching the rest of your journey as it is making me feel better about mine. Going to be a long one of braces first but hopefully it all goes quick and smooth!
i am 9 days post-op and i got this exact surgery. i hate the way i look. my nose is wide and upturned and my upper lip is so full.. is there any way i can get in contact with you so we can chat about how you are feeling now? i just feel so ugly and hopeless lol
Did your surgeon put some kinda "alar cinch" stitch in your nose to try and prevent the nose widening? Also there’s still probably a ton of swelling in the sinus and maxilla region at 9 days. It should definitely settle down. I haven't had my surgery yet, but am in the beginning stage (braces) so I'm not an expert. I asked so many questions about this to my surgeon and this is just what I gathered. Hang in there! And good luck on your recovery!
Omg...the same thing happened to me with my teeth. My midline is way off and there’s a pretty obvious cant to my upper teeth. I’m seeing my Ortho on Friday and I’m so scared that he’s gonna say it can’t be fixed.... Did they tell you yours could be fixed?
I wouldn’t touch your nose. It’s wider but it’s cute and upturned. Also it fits your face . Super thin nose is overrated. I also think it’s an optical illusion. Your nose is in a more forward position making it closer to the camera than it would’ve been before. You look younger after. Don’t get down on yourself.
thanks dan, that's an interesting way of looking at it. my doctor said we can fix it after a few months if I'm still unhappy (at this point I am more so) so we'll see.
Did you have ortho before the surgery, I think you needed, I don't know if you had it lingual ortho or aligners, but you needed ortho before the surgery and obviously after.
Surgeon did a mistake not placing the upper jaw exactly in the middle, simple as that. Also, how has the surgery impacted your speech? I'll be having the surgery in a semester break that's 2 months long and am super worried I'll return to university even 2 months later with a super strange voice..
You are clearly overthinking , your teeth are gonna get back to midline But look at how your nose and chin are centrally aligned You are looking great !!
I don't mean to sound abrupt but I'm ANGRY! I'm not angry at you, I'm angry at the medical professionals that were taking care of you. So now, if you don't mind, I shall begin my rant. 1 - WHY has no one explained that you have to wait at least 6 months to a year before you will see the true results and that EVERYTHING you see before then will be in transition. This is because there will still be swelling in different areas that will come and go because different anatomical parts heal at different rates and, whilst doing so, will cause new swelling and/or temporary changes in other areas as the healing process happens (it's just like that song "the thigh bone's connected to the hip bone, the hip bone's connected to the...."). 2 - WHY has no one explained that every single one of your facial muscles will need time to adjust to your new framework. Imagine changing the angles in the frame for a tent and then putting the same old canvas back on, it's just going to look wonky! Now add my point 1 back into the equation and imagine that you're going to keep altering your tent frame for the next 6 months to a year. If you try to adjust the tent canvas to fit after the first change, it's STILL going to look wonky because you've gone and made further changes to the frame! In short, you need to wait till you've stopped changing the tent frame, and THEN worry about adjusting the canvas. 3 - WHY has no one talked to you about smile exercises or facial muscle re-training?!!! Have you ever injured your leg enough to make you limp for a week or more? Very often, once it gets better you get pain somewhere else (like the lower back). That's because you use different muscles/muscle groups when you limp, and it takes time for the various muscle groups involved to adjust to their new changed activity levels putting strain on some and weakening others. Look up research articles on smile training and start working on your new smile, I PROMISE you, it changes EVERYTHING and can happen VERY fast too! (I had a lopsided smile and chin bump..... once😉). 4 - WHY has no one explained thoroughly how the alignment of your teeth will change after surgery?! Of course it will change, but that's easily resolved with a brace for a short time and a DARN SIGHT EASIER, and less painful than further orthognathic surgery! So taking all of the above into account, give it time, try NOT to consider any surgical cosmetic changes until everything is fully settled (I'm shocked that any surgeon would offer ANY changes so soon after your surgery and I can't help but wonder if that's money talking more than genuine concerns for your wellbeing!). Discuss your options for the realignment of your teeth but make sure everything is healed fully first. But most importantly, what you CAN do right now is get that mirror out and start retraining your smile, after all, your facial muscles have been doing the same old dance routine (when you smile) since you were young... now it's time to teach them some new moves! - a new, beautiful dance, choreographed by YOU!!!! Take the power back girl, and smile, because you really ARE very beautiful!!
@@Tobschh I didn't say the surgeon screwed up anything. It sounded like she wasn't given enough information about what would happen after the op and how long the process can take etc. If you know something different then please go ahead and explain...
It’s so sketchy how your orthodontist denied saying that your but was shifted after talking to the surgeon. I hate how all these people pretend to have your best interest at heart when they are really snakes

wishing you the best!
@@rachs9326 Thanks for your help I wish you health
You look great! I hope you start to feel better 💜💜
Only if you want to and if you’ll be okay with it. sending so much love ❤️❤️❤️
still look beautiful I have to have mine done and still waiting for the braces but hoping it happens soon xx
What about the metal plates and screws they put in my jaw? Are they for life?
Update please 🥺
How’s it going now? I’m getting surgery in a few months and I want to know how you feel about your new face now.
heyy, when you mention numbness in the mouth, are u referring to teeth as well?... my lower teeth r numb and not sure if thats common ( i had surgery 5 days ago)
Hi Rachel. May i ask aprox how much your jaw surgery was. Also, how much was your consultation fee and did it included ct scans?
i am 9 days post-op and i got this exact surgery. i hate the way i look. my nose is wide and upturned and my upper lip is so full.. is there any way i can get in contact with you so we can chat about how you are feeling now? i just feel so ugly and hopeless lol
@@melanie1588 thank you so much! and no i don’t think he did :(
Omg...the same thing happened to me with my teeth.
I have to go for jaw surgery after 6 months, but I am very worried, please tell me some books which help me to make patience,
Did you have ortho before the surgery, I think you needed, I don't know if you had it lingual ortho or aligners, but you needed ortho before the surgery and obviously after.
A canted midline is fixed with braces
Surgeon did a mistake not placing the upper jaw exactly in the middle, simple as that.
Also, how has the surgery impacted your speech? I'll be having the surgery in a semester break that's 2 months long and am super worried I'll return to university even 2 months later with a super strange voice..
Why dont you have braces on?
💖 love ya.
How much does it cost?
Please tell me hospital name
You are clearly overthinking , your teeth are gonna get back to midline
But look at how your nose and chin are centrally aligned
You are looking great !!
Hi I might be getting jaw surgery soon. Any way I could message you ?
so why did they just bring your lower jaw back instead of your palate forward? it would look better your lips and cheeks would look fuller
Look great!
before it was better, sorry :(
Damn what’s yo IG
You look great, swelling could take up to a year to go away. btw you defo don’t look like ogre. stay strong!
Way to gaslight.
@@Tobschh eh? You lost me?
@@frangy865 it wasn't her muscles the surgeon screwed up. Stop gaslighting
@@Tobschh I didn't say the surgeon screwed up anything. It sounded like she wasn't given enough information about what would happen after the op and how long the process can take etc. If you know something different then please go ahead and explain...
@@frangy865 actually no, symmetry doesn't just dissappear after surgery unless someone screwed up majorly. Irregardless of the surgery.
It’s so sketchy how your orthodontist denied saying that your but was shifted after talking to the surgeon. I hate how all these people pretend to have your best interest at heart when they are really snakes
