It was a truly great film. Shockingl and violent. But Heavy on meaning. I have a particular place in my heart for this film. Thanks for the review and the reminder
The violence seems tame by modern standards. I like this film but I can think of 30-40 Westerns I’d watch ahead of it. Even in Peckinpahs filmography Ride the High Country & Pat Garrett/Billy the Kid are far superior Westerns IMO. And fun fact, more shots were fired in the end sequence of this film then were fired in the entire Mexican revolution! Great review as always.
Well rounded review of one of my favorite movies. This one is full of meaning and moving.Utterly violent but this violence has a purpose :fight against the romanticism of violence in Hollywood as late great Sam Peckinpah said.Jerry Fielding's soundtrack is a masterpiece
It should be made by Mel Gibson, a specialist for brutal and gritty movies: APOCALYPTO, HACKSAW RIDGE, PASSION OF THE CHRIST. Let's cross our fingers. But the plot of this remake is supposed to look very like Walter Hill's EXTREME PREJUDICE plot. A tribute from Wally Hill - former Peckinpah's "pupil" - to the master.
Hi Steven, For sure a game changer in American westerns & in the way Peckinpah really ramped up the tone of violence in this one, which i believe he might of looked at what was being hugely popular in Europe from the Italian Euro westerns which had a far more grittier & hard edged feel to their westerns. A mark of the Peckinpah style was the slow motion scenes which Italian director Enzo G Castellari duplicated a few times in his westerns & Euo crime movies, a superb cast of aging gunfighters which adds to the movie. Peckinpah made some other fine movies but "The Wild Bunch" is the one that comes to mind instantly among fans, unquestionably. Fine review of a much loved western classic.
Hi Carlos. Yeah I'm sure Peckinpah must have taken a look at some of the European movies and thought 'I can top that!' haha. I think this film has a great mix of all out action and violence along with some great quieter character moments. I recently re-watched Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia which I hadn't seen since it was on Moviedrome on BB2 in the 90's. Another great Peckinpah movie. Thanks for your support as always Carlos, have a great weekend.
Great review thanks. Somehow the film gets me rooting for the gang to succeed but then they go down fighting for a noble cause of their own creation. I wonder if it influenced the final episode of Blake's 7?
Top tier movie. The guys seem like really nasty dudes at the start but over the course of the film you really get behind them and hope that they make it. And of course the walk, they could have ended the film with that but then it goes even more insane. Great movie!
Definitely one of the most iconic Westerns! I always feel like this is a Western to show people who don't like Westerns as it's straight up one of the best action movies ever made! Appreciate you watching mate, take care.

never out of my top ten movies, slow motion, great acting, and editing. Great documentary regarding the making of this move on TH-cam.

Need to make sure you see the extended version which restores the character interaction between Pike and Deke.

Thanks so much! I may do a personal top 10 westerns video at some point… 🤔

FUCK NO! CLASSIC MOVIES LIKE THIS SHOULD BE LEFT ALONE. IT DOESNT NEED REMAKES, ITS ALREADY A MASTERPIECE.

Saw it when it first came out! In LA! I was 13 years old! Literally BLEW ME AWAY! My Favorite!
A class western movie.
