Thanks Carl, you know I'm doing my best, hopefully the next ones are smoother to hear and do, we had to bodgy up the start and ending on both the first ones, the others might be a bit shakey but at least I say hello and goodbye, be careful of so called professionals
Thanks Geoff. RIP. Aussie legend. I got switched on to Geoffs designs by a crew of around a dozen local surfers in the mid 90's. Dick Johnston (now part owner of Tripadeal) had a little McCoy shop in bay lane. His partners in crime, Steve Shearer (filmaker journalist) and Jack Roberton (underground big wave charger) surfed McCoys over multiple north shore seasons. And the sons of two local Byron legends Russel Hughes and Lester Brien were also on the McCoy program. Surfing big Puerto Escondido and the south pacific. The Trevor Jones brothers Dave and Hugh from Hayters Hill were charging on McCoys surfing Broken Head back beaches on big east swells. Geoff was such an old school gentlemen, tough as nails, not scared to tread his own path and genuninely interested in making you a good board. It's humbling that the same guy who shaped for people like BK, Horan and Reno was like this. I got my last custom from Geoff just three short years ago. It's a rocketship. Guys like him don't come around very often. Vale to you mate.
What a treat to stumble across this interview. I've been riding Geoff's Nugget in all sizes here in South Africa for years. Got my last custom delivered not long before he sadly past.
R.I.P Geoff and thank you for the 6'8" Astron Zot with the Gull Fin you shaped for me in 2012 for the Points up at Noosa, it stays in the pocket and holds the line with plenty of drive off the bottom and top, so you can crank it as hard as you like and has never let me down. My favourite board in my quiver. I am over 60 now and it still surfs just like the day I first rode it. Thx Mate! Legend!

You can see in his eyes how passionate he was about surfing while talking about it. Great video. Thanks for sharing
Sad to hear Geoff has gone. My first board was crafted by Geoff. His creation changed my life in the best possible way.
brilliant interview
Great yarn. Loved the Ray Manicaros Kirra pic by Marty Tullemans the Cosmic Pygmy. Ray was a KSC club legend back in the day and true gent.
Thanks, Marty and Ray were good Mates and Ray is riding a board I shaped him when I was living at Lennox.
Great interview John. Some legendary names in that mix. Looking forward to some more of your work.
Thanks Barry, is this my old mate from our youth at Dee Why?

G’day Mike, Geoff meant he hung himself, pretty raw subject but it’s what happened.
Rode his boards from Avoca to Byron now lm at Tweed surfers!
Do you know if Kelly Slater has ever surfed one of Geoff McCoy his boards?
No sorry, I don't know.
