  • I adapted this from an original video found here: • Teaching In The 21st C... . The original presentation was created as a summary of the ASB Unplugged Conference in Mumbai, India 2010. I wanted to add more multimedia and make it more visual as well as adjust a couple of the ideas.

Due to the advancement in technology, the students of 21st century can get information from anywhere & at anytime. But still the importance of a teacher has its own place. It is important as a teacher to teach life skills & values to student which will help them to be the responsible future citizen. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful video!!

What a beautiful, useful resource! I liked seeing the text move instead of hearing someone speak. And what great ideas to start thinking about problem-solving and critical thinking for our students! I think this will be my new touchstone for developing new materials for my students!

Hi, Sonja. I am a Public Facilitator of Regular and Special Education in Puerto Rico. I found this video pertinent to the 21st century educational paradigm. Is it posible to get your autorization to translate it in spanish to show my school district teachers how important is your presentation. It does says it all. I saw the original and there is a great difference. Thank you.

I cannot comprehend questions like "Should I rent or buy?" or "Which credit card is the best for me?" if I have no knowledge of the basic facts of mathematics (ie. addition, multiplication, percentages, interest rates). How can you ask a student to find out the number of grains of sand on an average beach? Open-ended questions like this seem wonderful to ask, but create anxiety in our students since they usually aren't given the proper tools to answer the question and their short-term memories cannot hold all of the relevant information.
I do think that modelling appropriate behaviour and teaching certain skills is OK to do, but NOT as a substitution of basic facts and working knowledge. The more a student can commit to long-term memory, the more we empower our students to be able to answer the difficult questions they will face later in life.

I note there is a lot on the cognitive domain but very little on the affective domain and applying the relevant taxonomies. Similarly with motor learning domain and relevant taxonomies. Can we start addressing this?
