I remember watching Abbot and Costello movies every Sunday morning after church with my dad. Alot of laughs! "Back....back....back, he thinks I'm Dracula". As I viewed this collection of Americana, I noticed that the music themes of virtually every show was unique. I was whistling along with many, like Mod Squad and Get Smart, and others. Even the commercials were cool. I remember that Pocono Gardens spot ran often. Thanks for the memories....alot of enjoyment, thrills, and laughter.
@@Johnnyboy792 Yes sir! I felt younger and happier after watching your video. I remember seeing "The Money Store" commercial with Phil thought the '70's. Not only did those commercials, movies, and TV shows that aired on Channel 11 bring my family and I together for a certain amount of time on a weekly basis....but the impact obviously continues on today in 2020. Think about that for a moment or two. There were many other shows like Hawaii 5-0 that were enjoyed on CBS if I recall correctly, being a kid through out the '60's and '70''s was terrific.
@@Johnnyboy792 You're welcome! I forgot to mention that I remembered seeing "The Money Store" commercial quite often for years. I also didn't mention that I watched "The Quiet Man" with my dad too over the years. It was one of his favorite John Wayne movies. The programmers from WPIX would hopefully be impressed that all these years later that a kid who grew up on so many of those shows and movies still remember every one of them, and I'm grateful that some of them help forge a bond between my dad and I. When I was in Pre-School (rapidly approaching 5 DECADES ago) we lived in NY & watched PIX! Then moved to a part of New England which didn't receive the station... but used to watch it when visiting my dad or grandparents! SO many memories! Used to hide behind the couch when that Chiller Theater hand popped up! & Ages ago I asked about an afterschool kid's show with a commodore style host. Well that was Capt. Jack McCarthy! Thank You AGAIN very much! ;)
This station had so many great shows. Growing up in the seventies and eighties we watched WPIX all the time. My favorite was Magic Garden! Great video!
Thank you for this. I had many happy years watching that station. I was sad when the station folded. I think at one time or another I saw all of the shows being shown here. So scary 50 or 60 years later I still remember the words of the songs and jingles. 😃
Where did all the time go I wonder , I remember all of those shows and WPIX having grown up in Brooklyn N.Y. thanks so very much for a trip down memory lane , I think this is a really cool video, thanks for sharing it with us all.
Thank You!!!! so many memories were reaffirmed watching this video. We only had a black and white tv back then. Did not know that some of these shows were in color! "1960s- 1970s"
As a kid I used to have a crush on Carol Demas from the Magic Garden. Hard to believe she's now 80 years old, and as beautiful as ever. Carol Corbett who did the Patchwork Family show with Cary Antebi only lasted one season in 1972-73. It then continued to appear on tv as reruns until 1989. Amazing how they pulled that off with the very limited time they were on.
My younger sister watched that show and I remember checking Carole out at age 8......I remember the Patchwoork Family as well....I think "Kukla, Fran and Ollie" was on one of the networks on Saturdays....

I'm in NH. On July 17, 1980, we got cable, and one of the channels we got was WPIX. Back then I remember them calling themselves TV-PIXXX (or something like that). My younger brother was 7 at the time, and WPIX was his favorite channel; when he got home from school he went straight to that channel. I even mentioned in on some Easter Hunt cards I made for him a few years later. My brother died in 1994 and WPIX always reminds me of him. Although most of the memories on here were "pre-us", there were a few good memories in here. Thank you.
Hello Karen ! Deepest condolences on your loss. Im happy it brought a smile. WPIX was a great station.... kids... sports.. and movies. It was all there :):):) All the best to you - JB
Thanks for sharing all these awesome memories. Things will never be that way probably ever again and I’m grateful that I got to be growing up in those days.
Boy, that sure brought back memories for me, especially the kid's shows from the early Sixties. I watched everything on a black and white TV until I was 16. It was fun to watch this nostalgic compilation, about 90% of it was very familiar to me. My childhood was so unbelievably different from kids of today, but I guess every generation can say that, eh? Welcome to your life.
I can’t believe how many of those programs on WPIX Channel 11 that I knew the theme songs and watched. The Money Store sometime in the 70’s moved to this kind of electric blue brick building on Morris Avenue in Springfield NJ, there always seemed to be a lot of shady characters and nice cars around that place. Thank you for that fantastic video, I smiled all the way through it.
I have been mesmerized. I could not turn it off. This was my life growing up in NJ. Back when TV was innocent. From the Honey Mooners to the death of Thurman Munson. In every single preview, they even spoke of Jesus on mainstream TV back then. What has happened to us? Long live WPIX, 11 Alive.
Reminds me a lot of our own WGN-TV in Chicago from my youth. So sad that independent TV stations are just fond memories now. Thanks for the memories. 🙂
@@Johnnyboy792 Glad to hear it! I subscribed to your page. I have a You Tube channel as well. Glad I discovered yours. Your posts are awesome! By the way, I assume you're from NY :)
Does anybody remember the complete 11-Alive song with the lyrics? "We're really flyin' high...Eleven...Eleven alive!" probably around 1978. The commercial had footage of Coney Island and the Yankees.
As usual: pure gold. Brought back a lot of memories, and not just what I was watching ... but where I was, who I was with, what I was doing. Like, Sunday mornings I always had breakfast with my dad and we’d watch Abbott and Costello. Saturday nites were a toss up between Chiller Theater and Creature Features, and for many years I could always count on The Honeymooners, The Twilight Zone and The Odd Couple after a late night with friends. Thank you for keeping this alive.
We had channels: 2-4-5-7-9-11 & 13, and ALWAYS something to watch! Can't count how many times, as a kid, I had to climb up on our roof to re-attach the little wire to the great big antenna.
Chris Brady Yes! The flat brown ribbon like thing with a wire on each side that you had to splice the coating off and attach to the antenna on the roof drop it down through a window and connect it to the TV. And it was such a miracle when it worked!! :)
Chiller Theater when that hand came out of the ground I being a kid would be scared of that thing On Get Smart, I would count all of the doors he goes through, every time I watch the show. Funny times
Thank you sooooo much for this. I loved channel 11 during the 70's as kid growing up in the Bronx! I remember Jack McCarthy so well--ding ding ding three bells all is well! And Chiller Theater on Saturday at 11pm! Oooooh! That hand scared the hell outta me! Also, some of the shows I saw on other channels, like Get Smart used on WNEW TV Metromedia Channel 5, Gigantor and Dick Tracy was on WOR Channel 9 and Rocky and Bullwinkle was on WABC on Saturday mornings. Gilligans Island was on Channel 5 too. Oh, you also forgot a biggie...Soul Train on Saturdays after 11 am or 12pm (I forgot)---I remember American Bandstand was WABC on Saturdays after the cartoons.
At 2:12 Ray Heatherton, father of entertainer Joey Heatherton. Chuck McCann (3:28) was also known for many years as a TV commercial actor and voice artist, and he also did a series of Laurel & Hardy themed ads for American/Standard gas stations, where he played Oliver Hardy. In the late-1960s he also had the show The Far Out Space Nuts, co-starring Bob Denver. Not to mention the series of Right Guard ads as the "Hi Guy!" guy, with Bill Fiore as the poor sap on the other side of the mirror left calling for his wife Mona.
Thanks WPIX and Thank You SO, SO, Much, Johnny!!! I think you took me back all the way to 1961 or so!! I kind of remember back then that Captain Jack was on at 11AM or Noon and The Merry Mailman at 12:30. Chuck McCann was my Sunday morning favorite - so creative!! Even in college, I tried to schedule my classes around The Adventures of Superman or as I called it, Superman. I have a memory of another TV host, short lived, around 1963-65, Fireman Todd Russell. He was on around 4 - 4:30 but I can't remember who he hosted, though The Little Rascals come to mind. My imagination or did this exist?
He escaped me... but I did some research and it said he hosted The stooges very briefly for only a few months. I think the thing that made these shows so memorable with Bozo, Capt. Jack and Officer Joe was that they looked directly in the camera and talked to you like you were the only one that existed. That was the magic.
Johnnyboy792 Thanks for the Fireman Todd info, I knew I wasn't imagining it! Back then, my best friend was the girl next door and it was the first time I ever saw a girl go bonkers for a guy!!! She was totally crushing on him at age 5!!! I agree with how the hosts looked right into the camera. It seemed that all the local kids show hosts did that (at least around NYC). Besides talking right to me, they showed respect for us kids, their audience. They made you feel that they were as smart as your favorite teacher and as wise and lovable as your favorite Uncle. To quote Cher, "If I could turn back time."
Dear Jeffm, "Fireman Todd"Russell's stint as the host/performer of"The Three Stooges Firehouse"was actually seen weekday evenings at WPIX TV from thursday 9/7/1961 to Friday 8/31/1963.and his show aired 5:30 to 6:00.
Before he was put in charge of"The Three Stooges Firehouse"..Todd Russell was"Big Todd"on "The Rootie Tootie Club"/"The Rootie Kazootie Club"on NBC and ABC TV weekday evenings and saturday mornings from 1950 to 1954.

Even at that time, I had access to WPIX, WNEW, and WOR, as well as the Scranton channels, and a few others. The channels only went from 2 - 13, two of those were not real channels. Probably a pretty good TV package for 1970.
Ah memories... too sad those tapes were destroyed Bernie :(
@@Johnnyboy792 Bummer!
Wow..those were my times as a kid.capt jack, officer Joe bolton..wonderama...wow...even the commercials were good!!!! Chiller and the 6 fingers.
@@bernie2231 but it's all good!! We still have the memory of watching, and that we will always cherish....I'm from boogie bronx,we had the old channels.and I think they were better then than now!!!!.. take care..
Growing up in Connecticut, I remember watching a lot of this programing from '71 onward. There were so many shows I watched, from Star Trek to the Mod Squad, Get Smart, Chiller Theater.....too many to list here.
Me also Mark.... this was a labor of love putting this together :) Thanks for watching !
@@marksieve7734 :) Many thanks my friend !!!
@@Johnnyboy792 You're welcome! I forgot to mention that I remembered seeing "The Money Store" commercial quite often for years. Now I realize that considering where I grew up, (not too far from NYC), it made alot of sense for that commercial to be run....and often. Cheers.
Such golden memories. Thank you for bringing these back from the dead.
What a wonderful, simple time that was. So many warm, fuzzy memories. Children today only have their phones and Tiktok.
YOUR video shows American History AN THE times of baby boomers..We ALL missed AN Loved to remembering through YOU!!! 😅Thankyou Thankyou for replaying our FUN days✨👍👍
:):):)
Yes...I just found your channel today This maybe my new favorite on TH-cam....Made me a little teary eyed like others here....I remember sitting on the rug in front of the TV watching Kimba in 1966 in my Grandparent's apartment when I was 2-3 yo..... I watched all these shows from the mid 60s forward and still love them to this day....
I remember WPIX putting Kimba back on briefly in the early 80s for a short while....
Hey Dj ! Many thanks for taking the time ! I really hope it brought a smile :)
What a trip down memory lane! Thank you so much for posting. It brought back so many childhood memories!
Thanks Stephen !!!
Thank You AGAIN very much! ;)
Thank you Thrasher !!! :)
fantastic ! loved the memories ]
Thanks Sal !!!
As did I Ken... there was something about the hosts looking into the camera... it felt like they were speaking only to you :)
Thank you very much. Memories of days gone by. My beloved NY and WPIX. 👍
Thanks for watching my friend :)
I spent part of my childhood in BPT CT I remember all of this quitefondly
Stamford here... but worked for 27 years in that town :)
Johnnyboy792 I LOVE your videos😍 I could watch and reminisce all day! Thanks so much for sharing.
Many thanks for taking the time to watch.... ill take you back so far your face may break out all over again :):):)
Where did all the time go I wonder , I remember all of those shows and WPIX having grown up in Brooklyn N.Y. thanks so very much for a trip down memory lane , I think this is a really cool video, thanks for sharing it with us all.
Thank you Noble ! Many thanks for your kind comments :)
Wow. I'm 62 years old and this just brings back memories of my childhood from the 60's! Fun times. TV nowadays will never be the same .
Many thanks... I hope it brought you a smile :)
Thank You!!!! so many memories were reaffirmed watching this video. We only had a black and white tv back then. Did not know that some of these shows were in color! "1960s- 1970s"
I love that music intro.
My family went to the Pocono Mountains in 1970 when I was 7 years old. It was beautiful! Thank you for bringing back that memory!
Many thanks !!!
Oh Boy Fred, that was a blast from my past!
Channel 5...Channel 9....Channel 11....a kid in the 60s after-school Paradise!
I was living in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada and grew up watching this channel, most the programming I grew up watching.
Thank you Bob ! Great times for sure !
She was the first crush for many :)
My younger sister watched that show and I remember checking Carole out at age 8......I remember the Patchwoork Family as well....I think "Kukla, Fran and Ollie" was on one of the networks on Saturdays....
I was young but i remember a lot of this like grease and take human bites i miss this kind of tv thank you for putting this together.
Great times growing up in NYC... thank you!!!
thank you! i was just talking about the late nite lineup of star trek, odd couple, honeymooners, and twilight zone! r.i.p. to wpix anchor morton dean as well!
Thanks Amy... All The Best !!!
Wow. That is an amazing collection. Great memories of the good old days. Thank you !!!
Thanks for watching John !!!
I remembered all of this!!! Thank you!!!
Thank you so much for watching :)
Sweet memories of my Long Island NY youth (late 60’s/70’s) Thank you Johnnyboy!...I miss those Yankees & Phil Rizzuto from the crazy ‘70’s💕
My pleasure Sofia :):):)
I remember Phil doing "The Money Store" as early as 68 or 69....
iirc - in the 1960's Channel 5 had Warner Bros. movies & cartoons, Channel 9 had RKO movies, and Channel 11 had Paramount movies & cartoons
Exactly!
Wonderful we need that kind of entertainment back! Tv a nd Hollywood inthe the goldern days! I go back in time alot ! There are channels that cater to shows like this! I Love them! I trying to get my grand children to watch in this modern day world! 2021 lets go back in time!
I got my little cousins into Bud & Lou's movies :):):)
Thank you so much. Feels good to relive it! You hit them all! Even the Hollyridge Strings "Santa's Got A Brand New Bag"
Thanks so much for taking the time to watch Mike :):):)
This was before TCM too, wow thanks for posting this, awesome!
The Chiller Theater Opening with the six fingered hand always ten times more scary than the movie after it.
Sure did... actually took me a few years to figure it was 6 fingers LOL :)
March of the Wooden Soldiers on Thanksgiving Day. Pure Bliss.
I'll say :) Thanks for watching :)
For me it was WPIX Chiller Theatre every Saturday night in competition with WNEW Creature Features.
Oh the best of times :)
Thanks for sharing all these awesome memories. Things will never be that way probably ever again and I’m grateful that I got to be growing up in those days.
Me also Bob !!!
Man ,... so many good shows produced in that time period . Thank God youtube keeps their memory alive here .
Thanks C.C !!!
Haven't seen that Hercules beginning in over 55 years. Amazed by the video quality of this video.
Mission completed LOL Thanks !!!
Born in 1965, so I remember a lot of this (obviously not all of it). Great compilation, WPIX was the best !
Many thanks for watching ! :)
It sure was a great time!
Damn what memories you definitely brought back for me! Thank you!!!!!
Thanks Dave !!!!
Wow so many memories of watching WPIX! Thanks for posting this. 226 0841the Pocono Gardens Lodge!
40 years later and we still remember it :):)
Reminds me a lot of our own WGN-TV in Chicago from my youth. So sad that independent TV stations are just fond memories now.
Thanks for the memories. 🙂
The Horror hosts were awesome too..I think you guys had Marvin :)
"Space 1999" was also shown on WPIX.
Best intro theme music ever!!!! Is what I call a shoulder music. Just use your shoulders to dance.
Yeah. Saturday afternoons.
WPIX Channel 11 in NEW YORK city.
Very nicely done. Lots of memories.
I really loved this! You did a great job putting this together. Time goes by way too fast..
Hi Angela ! Thanks so very much for tuning in. One channel and so much to watch and remember. All the best to you - JB
Johnnyboy792 You're so very welcome! Have a great weekend 😊
:):):)
Nice video scrapbook. Especially for those old enough to have lived through all or a major portion of those years. Myself included.
Thanks for posting this amazing video. I shared it to the WPIX Facebook page so others can see it. Well done!
Didn't know there was one... thanks so much Rb !!!
@@Johnnyboy792 Yes Johnny I just found it myself. I posted some of my own stuff on it. You'll probably see your numbers go up on this video.

I do.....and don't figure out my age. LOLOLOLOL.
@@Juliaflo Someone finally posted the song, but not the footage.

It's the second song at 30 seconds in.
Thanks Big Ed ! I really hope it brought back some great memories :):):)
I remember the Odd Couple reruns starting on WPIX in the fall of 1976....
We had channels: 2-4-5-7-9-11 & 13, and ALWAYS something to watch! Can't count how many times, as a kid, I had to climb up on our roof to re-attach the little wire to the great big antenna.
So true Chris. Sports, movies, Sitcoms, News. There was always something worthwhile to watch. Great times for sure :):):)
Chris Brady Yes! The flat brown ribbon like thing with a wire on each side that you had to splice the coating off and attach to the antenna on the roof drop it down through a window and connect it to the TV. And it was such a miracle when it worked!! :)
@@fscap811 That's the exact wire!
Chiller Theater when that hand came out of the ground I being a kid would be scared of that thing
On Get Smart, I would count all of the doors he goes through, every time I watch the show. Funny times
Thanks for watching :)
My pleasure my friend :)
Johnnyboy792 THANK YOU for this! great HQ clips too - BRILLIANT!
Thanks again my friend !!!
Thanks again Buddy :)
