Bowser may be the ultimate villain in the Super Mario series, but the big and evil Koopa also has a heart. This is why, despite having evil intentions, it’s hard to ignore how much of a family man Bowser really is. Through the years, we’ve been introduced to a number of family members, but what characters are actually his children?!
Diving deep into Mario’s history, the answer is actually a little more complicated than you think. There are numerous character introductions, story changes and adaptations people are unaware off. This is why it may be confusing to the average Super Mario fan as to who Bowser’s children actually are. By breaking down history and looking at games, we may get some clear answers. Bowser’s parents are not really talked about in the series, but there is a Magikoopa who raises him and serves as the best father-figure for Bowser. The idea of Bowser’s children is also debated by the fact that there is no love interest for him to have children with. This may seem complicated, but is a common part of Super Mario lore. The Koopalings were first introduced in Super Mario 3 and were originally known to be Bowser’s children, especially on the animated television shows known as Super Mario World and the Adventures of Super Mario 3. The Koopalings disappeared and years later, they would make a huge comeback on the Wii. Mix in the introductions of Bowser Jr. and the story of Bowser’s children is a little more complicated than intended. Watch to see how many kids Bowser actually has.

The Koopalings are classified more as Bowser's adopted children, as they were as close to actual sons or daughters that he thought he ever would have - thus why he always treated them as if they were his biological kids. Upon the birth of a true heir to his kingdom, he allowed the Koopalings to pursue their own desires in life - eventually ending up desiring to go back to their fun times with 'King Dad' as full-time generals in his army (Personal Headcanon). And Koopa Kid and company are basically just minions he recruited part-time to assist him in his terrorizing of Mario and friends' happy little board game parties.

I like the idea of the Koopalings as war orphans that Bowser adopted. It gives the world of the Mushroom Kingdom a much darker flare.

I believe,although Miyamoto said that Bowser only child is Bowser Jr. I like to believe what he meant was that Bowser’s only biological child is Bowser Jr, however the Koopalings are his adopted children.

What if the Koopalings are actually Bowser's siblings?
Imagine if Bowser's long-absent mother showed up one day, told him to watch his brothers and sister, then took off only to never return. The kids are young enough to mistake Bowser for their real father, and as they start calling him dad he finds it harder and harder to correct them. Eventually he just accepts it and tries raising them, albeit the way he wishes he was raised - ruling over their own kingdoms and carrying out evil schemes.
At some point, around the time he has his own kid, Bowser tells them the truth. Or some version of the truth, as he may want Bowser Jr. to one day inherit his empire. The Koopalings resent him for a time, thus explaining their absence, before returning to work with him but not as his children.
I’ve actually always considered the Koopalings as Bowser’s kids and still do.
In the game Bowser jr's journey, they are rather considered like sbires....

My idea about the koopa-kids: they are/were a fan club from which Bowser would occasionally 'recruit' members to show them that they are appreciated ... but the arrival of Bowser Jr. messed up his schedules too much. (and it seems that, based on the fact that they never seem to complain about being abandoned, they understand his duties as a father)
I don’t care what they say the koopalings will always be bowser’s offsprings in my eyes if that’s what they were before it’s what they will always be also I have a theory about Koopa Kid I think he’s just an early concept of Bowser Jr. which is why in one game he called Bowser Dad and in one game Koopa Kid was actually called Bowser Jr.

Bowser only has one kid, Bowser Jr. The Koopalings are just more minions. They may have been adopted by Bowser but, still, they are minions. The creator of the Mario series (I can't pronounce his name) announced that the Koopalings are adopted. Also, if you're wondering, a Bowser Junior's mother is a mystery. The creator said that Bowser Junior is Bowser's only son. He also had a Q&A video. One question was "Who is Bowser Junior's mother?" He simply pointed at himself. He claims he is his mother. This was obviously was a joke.But, it could be true. Who knows?
He also say Mario is not a plumber yet most fans ignore that. Seem to me fans want to only ignore shit they don't like.

The way I understand it, the Koopalings are like elite minions that Bowser regards like family. Hence them calling him “dad” for to the Koopalings he is like a father figure.

This explanation should make the retcon make more sense.
As per Jr’s mom, she probably had a tragic end before he hatched. This gives Bowser a significantly compelling motive to go after Peach so much.

You are wrong guy, they returned in the GBA before the Wii!, They returned in the Mario e Luigi SuperStar Saga in 2003! And, after this, they returned in the New Super Mario Bros Wii in 2009!
I always figured the Koopalings were adopted. They're all of different ages (except for Iggy anf Lemmy, who are twins), they came seemingly from nowhere, and one of them is named "Morton Jr." Unless Bowser's just a nickname, a pseudonym, or a title of some sort, Morton Jr's definitely adopted.
Nintendo fans: "Can you please keep some consistency in the Koopa family timeline? Maybe include Wario/Waluigi/Daisy in the mainstream Mario games? Bring back Missions in Mario Kart? Possibly even make Super Mario Sunshine 2 / Super Mario Galaxy 3?"

I'd like to add that, while the koopalings aren't his biological children, it doesn't mean that he hadn't possibly adopted them. That could be why they call him dad, even though it was mentioned that they weren't actually his kids.

I actually had an interesting idea that ties both ideas of the Koopalings together as well as involving Bowser Jr. into the mic and marking a turning point for all of them, including Bowser Jr. himself. And it does has something like what you mentioned at the end there though not exactly that. Want to hear it.

Game Theory posed that while Bowser Jr. is Bowser's only biological son, the Koopalings (or Koopa Kids) might very well be his adopted children. That would explain their sudden status as orphans.

Well ... being the King of all Koopas, he's kinda obligated to take care of his kin regardless. And even if he doesn't officially recognizes them as his children (even if adopted), that doesn't prevent them of seeing him as their father figure.
So, I'd say that, at minimum, he's their parent by proxy! (although, Jr is his favorite)

In my fan-fiction (The Adventures of Bowser: The Novel Series) Bowser is no longer a villain and he battles evil to seek redemption.
As what I know of is that,yes,bowser has a CHILD,I’m pretty sure the koopalings are his minions or smth like that,or at least his ADOPTED children.but bowser jr is most likely the only biological child he has

I always thought the koopalings are bowser’s neice and nephews, but I guess not. I haven’t seen any character in the Mario series called koopa kid, I think they deleted him from the series. There’s still a lot of questions about all the characters, but mostly Rosalina’s past and her parents. (There are some hints in super Mario galaxy)

I like to think that the koopa kids from Mario party are just other kids from the same species as bowser. We don’t see em, but clearly bowser is part of some kind of larger koopa species, cause we know his parents exist and also junior’s biological mother. So it’d make sense for there to be other people not related to bowser from the same species that had kids, those are koopa kid

Miyamoto could've EASILY made the Koopalings his Adoptive children instead of cutting their origin story off completely.
They were his children, then they weren't. It's clear:
He had 7 children, they were failures, he demoted them from being his children, and had another child who is his favourite.
Also the other Koopa Kids existed then they didn't.

The first seven, the Koopalings, were with his first wife, Clawdia. She became egg bound and died of the resulting infection from the egg breaking inside her, despite emergency surgery to clean her out. She died on the table.
When the Kooplings were 10 years old, a lonely Bowser took a vacation to Isle Delfino. He was down in the lobby, downing his sorrow in Pina Coladas, when he heard a beautiful female voice singing as a piano accompanied her. He followed the sound to find a blue Noki playing the piano while singing.
Bowser recognized the song as an old tragic love sonnet, one he knew, so he sang with her. The Noki invited him to play the piano with her, and together they sang the song.
After, the Noki introduced herself as Elenor. She comes to the hotel to sing while playing the piano to help make things meet after losing her husband. They got to talking, and discovered they had quite a bit in common. Elenor had two sons she was doing her best to support, Koopa, and Paratroopa.
They began a long distance relationship. A hurricane struck the island. Elenor lost everything other than her sons. Bowser offered to have her move in with him, and she accepted.
They fell in love with each other. Bowser was considering marriage, but was worried about how the children would take it.
He asked Koopa and Paratroopa how they would feel if he married their mother. They both told him they were wondering when he would propose, and asked if he could adopt them.
Bowser married Elenor. A year later, Bowser JR hatched. Five years later, Pompom and Bambam hatched.
The current total is 12. Ten bio kids and two adopted kids.
