    Well thank you so much for this video, I've been living here for 6 years and always wondered if you could do it, and talking to the locals over the years it's seemed very vague around the east side, several ways to go around to avoid the main road, loved your video, Northney tea rooms is amazing. good to know the actual milage too. Can't wait to try and do this next year, and showing all my friends who have been asking about this. Your a star. so looking forward to the Thorney Island one too. Will be very interesting to see this as I only went half way round on the east side and wish I had started the west side first. Good luck.

      Thanks for watching the video! Yes, I'd been wondering for a while too. Just decided to get stuck in and give it a go. Part of me still thinks there MUST be a way. I might try and do it again but walking anti clockwise, and see if I can get through. It really wasn't very pleasurable though! The rest of the island was great though. Hope you and your friends have fun doing it :).

    I have not done it revently bit about 10 yrs ago we picked up a path after Northney Marina on the left and then get around all the way to a holiday camp then back to the roads to get to Sandy Point. Taking the main road is pants inon foot and a bike, sadly.

      Ah I tried to go that way but it was cut off by construction works. You really couldn't get far and I just had to double back on myself. Must've changed. I was convinced I'd be able to get round to walk on the coast, but just couldn't find a way!

    My (now deceased) dog and I have walked along the mud banks heading south from HISC almost to Northney (ie going the opposite way to you) but 1) we had to swim across the channel north of the sailing club that leads to Sparkes Marina, 2) it is only possible on a falling tide as you have to return before the tide comes in and 3) it was probably stupid, dangerous and irresponsible. As far as I can see, there are very few options for walking the East side of the island. It's a shame as the west of the island is completely passible and if you get the tide right you can get from the Ferryboat to the bridge, pretty much along the shoreline. If you use the Billy trail, you can go the whole way at any state of the tide!

      Yeah the Billy Trail is great - as you say, such a shame about the other side of the island. I really thought I'd be able to do it!

    What are the measures that are taken for the coastal protection of hayling island by the uk government ?

    • @RobsHampshirePubWalks
      @RobsHampshirePubWalks 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe King Canute has been engaged on the project 🙂 Seriously the once sandy dunes on the beach have been built up with banks of shingle over the years but I fear it's only a matter of time before parts of the island are flooded.

      @@RobsHampshirePubWalks is there any loss of land of hayling Island due to flooding or coastal erosin in past years?

    • @RobsHampshirePubWalks
      @RobsHampshirePubWalks 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not that I remember, there were floods in years gone by mainly before the shingle due to very high tides and weather combining but Hayling is very flat a bit like the Maldives, no cliffs to speak of. Sea level rises could be catastrophic for the whole south coast. Big money is being spent to protect Portsmouth as we speak, its similarly flat like Hayling.

      @@RobsHampshirePubWalks what is the current situation of covid19 in England?

      High levels but because of immunisation at equally high levels deaths and hospitalizations dramatically reduced.
