On “My Car Story” we're in Rosemont IL at the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals on 11-19-21.
    We’re looking at a 1966 Oldsmobile F85 442 W-30 in Target Red & Ebony Black Top Paint. The car features a 400 CI V8 “W-30” engine, with a 4 Speed manual transmission.
The car's Owner is Andy Hanson. Andy’s had this car since 2000. Andy shares that in 1966 Oldsmobile made 54 442 W-30 cars made for NHRA Drag Racing. His is 1 of 8 because it’s a Hardtop, and not a Post Car. This car took 21 years to restore and now looks showroom new.

Love the simple "hot rod engineering" that designers utilized on Andy's beautiful car as well as all others during this era. (ram air ducts and relocating turn signals etc) Necessity really is the Mother of Invention. Just as My Car Story is necessary for enriching our car driven souls. Thanks Lou!

Hi, Lou! A Target Red 442 is right on target for the muscle car man! Super job by Andy on the restoration, and the odometer showing only seven miles would seem to promote the showroom new impression even further. Good to know there's still a few more of those 54 still around. Would have been interesting if you had been able to get a ride in this one! Thanks to you and Andy for putting this one in the spotlight for us!

Defiantly not your fathers Oldsmobile! I am sure it would smoke those US Royal safety 800s off in no time. GM used a lot of US Royal tires back then. My Dad's 63 Chevy wagon came with safety 800s on it and they wore quite well. His 66 Olds Cutlass Supreme came with US royal Laredo's and as he said you could watch them wear out! Thanks for another great car video.

Lou do you know what mufflers Andy has on #27? Walker sound fx are a pretty close stock replacement with 2 1/4 in and if I recall 2” out with baffled tips, very rare, or another factory stock replacement like Waldron? If you happen to know the brand would love the tip
Thanks for great vid and Andy thanks for saving such a rare car and sadly such an underrated and under appreciated car in my opinion, the gavel prices on all 66 442, L69s w30s(the few that sell every now and then and the trac pac cars is pride they just aren’t appreciated, which makes for great buys if you still have deep pockets as they are finally hitting 100,000 and never less then 75. When 68-71 w30s specifically 70 are almost all past 6 figures with a stick as these were mandatory stick cars the w30s with an amazing mandatory posi TK 4.33 rear end. Beast of a car with no highway manners lol
There’s another f85 deluxe real w30 in autumn bronze up her in north east paperwork car and looked at by Curt Anderson himself at olds nationals in mass about 10 years ago so that’s 2 of the 8 and I think 1 I know of for sure more that either Sal (tore) Bev in CT or joe Donnelly in Texas or mike Richards in Alabama may have restored or assisted on. That rocker molding on the f85 deluxe is a pretty penny I have been hoarding severla sets for years from parts cars. My f85 deluxe 442 non w car or trac pac is by far the quickest of all
My Oldsmobile cars even my 70 442 built to w30 specs. Scary fast and deceptively quick, these 66w30s won the c stock Nhra class in 66 and in 67 Chevy says no way your making another multi carb and embarrassing our vettes lol, and that’s the end of the 2nd Gen tri carb after the early j2 setups.
Great car and immaculate and accurate restoration done, from overspray on tip rolled part of trim tag and the glob of seam sealer applied with the assembly man’s finger tip/ or flat wood stick in the trim tag river holes. Perfect. The auto cars with jetaway 2 speeds (last year) had a wire for the switch pitch and on the stock cars on throttle bell crank, the wire was needed for the variable stator and was cut by hand with a razor and left exposed not covered by harness as it was cut admirer assembly and 1 wiring harness was used for both setups. Visible here and a fact most judges don’t even know. Curt, Tore or Mike maybe even Joe must have advised on this car as they are walking encyclopedias on 66 w machines and trac pacs and any 66 442 for that matter, as it’s on point and as close to what it would have looked like in 66 minus better build quality and paint and overall assembly.
    Amazing job.

The '66 442 is the best looking 442 of all the models. The W30 package is the icing on the cake. I would like to know specifically what engine modifications the factory made to differentiate the W30 from a regular 400 c.i. Tri Power '66 model. Also, these competed in NHRA C/Stock again'st the 389 Tri Power GTO's but my gut tells me the W30 had more cylinder heads and a hotter camshaft.
