Teaches you to appreciate things. Buying your kids the newest vehicles don’t teach them any kind of appreciation. Everyone i went to school with got newer trucks and I got my ranger. All of them have had multiple trucks due to either their trucks failing or being totaled. I still have my first truck while they’re on their 4th or 5th. Appreciate your ride man, if you take care of that ranger it’ll take care of you. Mines been through high school, college, girlfriend, marriage and soon a baby. Never let me down.
You ever have any issues with the timing chains in this thing? These sohc 4.0s are notorious for developing a timing chain rattle known as the "death rattle". Shitty tensioner is the main cause of it. Once it develops the rattle it's only a matter of time before it breaks and locks up the engine. Usually can be heard at cold starts or when revving at 3-4k rpm. Thinking of buying an '03 fx4 level 2 with 115k on it with the same 4.0 sohc. Once the guides are shot you have to remove the engine to get to the rear chain setup.

Derek Whitmer I think the 4.0 is good because mine is over 200,000 miles and is still running strong but I can’t really say for the 2.3 because I’ve never had one of those
All motors are extremely reliable. Depending on what's important for you & what kind of driving you'll be doing. If MPG is key & not off roading, then anything smaller than the 4.0l is for you. If you want power, torque & towing capabilities than 4.0l is the best motor.
Got an 01 with 114k in Feb2020 & extremely happy with my Ranger! Best purchase ever for me. So easy to work on & maintain!! Parts are cheap. You won't be disappointed

No joke... I have the exact same broncos sticker in the exact same spot on my 01’ ranger.... also, just an idea, throw some subs in the back because the back seats are useless, that’s what I did. Nice truck though. I have some pictures of my ranger on my insta @mr.shady22 if you are interested.

2.3 is gonna be more reliable. The 3.0 though is the best imo it’s bullet proof
