This episode was like a trip down memory lane for me. The Broughtons were our annual summer destination every year until Covid closed the border. Kwatsi Bay was always one of the highlights. We really enjoyed the hospitality and the potluck at the marina there. Sad that it's closed now, but I must say it's not really as decrepit as it seems. It was always a very funky marina, which was part of the challenge. That's almost normal up in the Broughtons. Lagoon Cove, Shawl Bay, Jennis Bay, Echo Bay - all are funky in their own way. That doesn't mean they aren't enjoyable. It's just that these marinas are left over from old logging camps. In fact Jennis Bay is still operating as a logging camp.
I hope you go to Nimmo Bay. To get there you cruise on MacKenzie Sound which is just drop dead gorgeous. The Nimmo Bay resort is really cool. If you are very lucky, you might get a dinner reservation in their dining room. It's a world class resort and the dining there is world class too. But above all, cruising on MacKenzie Sound is right up there with the Octopus Islands.
Loving your episodes! We had to sell our boat after 2020, but I still miss the summers going North.
Shawn, thinking, "I don't have to run faster than the bear! I just have to run faster than you!"
Good morning, Elizabeth and Shawn. These last several videos from BC have been really beautiful. Elizabeth, I just want to say that you do a fantastic job with the editing, and your storyline scripts are spot on! As a fellow Seattleite, I know just how lucky we are to have such a plethora of stunningly beautiful cruising areas right in our backyard.
Thanks for the Sunday morning video. Now I need to plan a trip up to this area again😊
Love the camera work, drone shots, the editing and your choice of music. Well done!
We love American tourists! - BC Grizzly Bears
Once again breathtaking and so tranquil. You have made so many great memories, so many. Keep it up.
Such a beautiful place! A circumnavigation of Vancouver Island is on my bucket list!
We want to do that too! Our bucket list
Thanks Sean and Elizabeth for taking the time to make these videos. BC native who enjoys seeing these places we rarely visit.
So cool!! Love that Shawn kept his coffee the whole time.
Haha yes, he can definitely “hold it” longer than most!
@ 12:43, Sean wades into the underbrush in a search for deer ticks... Lots of thimble berries in the brush. A few weeks later and they would be big, juicy and ripe!
Canada and the PNW are one of the most beautiful places on the planet.
The water is like this in the inlet going to Squamish , along the highway from Vancouver to Whistler
How remote can you get? So Cool. Thank you for sharing your adventures in such a BEAUTIFUL PLACE!
Such beautiful scenery. Thank you so much for taking the time to film your adventure. I know I would never have an opportunity to see such beauty up close and personal. Always enjoy your content. Thanks again.
My breath left my body when you presented the 1000 yr cedar tree!
My brother and sister in-law were cruisers and we have been to Kwatsi Bay a few times with them. It is a wonderful place! We made friends with Max and Anca and kept intounch over the year. It was sad to learn that Max passed away a few years ago and Anca could not keep the marina. It is very sad to see the marina in disrepair. I have fond memories of happy hour and pot luck on the dock. Their daughter Marieke took us to the 1000 YO tree in there very small boat.
excellent video and as the title says beautiful wild kingdom thank you for sharing your adventures with us and taking the time to film and upload the videos
Once again guys you excel ,fantastic video, scenery you really are spoiled the scenery that beautiful vessel, well done Shawn and Elizabeth "Griswell" take care and enjoy
that scenery. doesn't get old
There are vibrant lakes in Banff, BC that are incredible and with the same glacier run off.
You guys are discovering places at risk of your own personal safety for our benefit. Heartfelt thanks❤
Greetings from Switzerland 🇨🇭 and happy Sunday all! Thanks for sharing this new episode with us. The last seconds of seeing the nachos paired with the music was like watching the end of a commercial (LOL). See U in the next video!
Fantastic video of remote coastal Canada. Thanks for taking us along.
Love the vidio . Was on the Queen of The North going through the inside passage from Port Hardy To Prince Rupert . Incredible trip in 1986 .
As always....beautiful scenery and a nice hike up to the Old Cedar Tree. That was a humongous tree! Was worth checking it out.
Yes it was!
Ive been there many years ago. Now that’s what I call beautiful. Thanks for this video. It brought. Back many great memories of my trip there. Thanks so much for sharing this.
I've seen more beautiful parts of this country on your videos then all of the others combined. Thank you.
Thanks for another great video, I enjoy watching your travels! Last time we were at Kwatzi the owner was running across in front of the house with shotgun in hand as a very large cougar strolled across! So bears may not have been your biggest concern but glad you saw neither! Would love for you to do an instructional on flying your drone! Our group lost two of them this summer in the Broughtons! Looking forward to more! Best wishes and calm seas!
Remarkable scenery.
We love cruising through the Broughtons! ⚓️ It’s funny because it always rains when we cruise through there lol. 😅
Beautiful scenery - Beautifully presented - you are beary good
Stunning landscape!!!! You guys stay safe and enjoy!! Thanks for sharing!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I really enjoyed this Broughton’s episode
Great and yeah it's a great Kingdom, thanks for sharing.
You never fail to entertain. The determination and gumption you guys have is remarkable!!!!
You are kids to us as we are old enough to be your parents. We totally enjoy your travels and are living vicariously through you. We have been boat-less since 2020. Our fur baby recuse is Dachshund/Jack Russell mix (not a good combo)and has had two disc surgeries since 2016 (we have a Ford Fusion in his back and neck) so we put our boating lives on hold. Our baby Willie is now 11 years old. We were not
blessed with children so or fur babies for our 48 plus years of marriage have been our total focus. All but our first fur baby, Maxie were boaters and we actually built one of or boats to accommodate there movements to the bridge (a sport fisher we built) We love watching your travels. At some point when we retire from our business we’re going back to the water. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for taking the extra time to get the drone shots! Love seeing the views!!
Absolutely gorgeous scenery!! And then a whale! Thank you for letting me explore this beautiful part of the world vicariously. Who does the drone flying by the way?
great tree, wonderful scenes. love exploring new areas....Elizabeth omg lol....
14:45 Sean to scale - wow!
We are big time boaters in Ontario... love your content and have ever thought of putting together a flotilla of "like minded" boaters for a trip? we have boat dogs too! LOL
Maybe in the future 🤔
Thank You for taking us with you on your adventures. Always so enjoyable and entertaining. So professionally done. Been a long time subscriber (from boat dog #2) and never disappointed. One of the most fun was watching Sean deal with "Dino" the first time (if looks could kill)!! Keep up the great work!!
Incredible view and when you were hiking I thought you were on Jurassic Park. 🦖
Wow,❤ an amazing part of the world you are in. Thank you for sharing!
If your conserving water. I would rinse the chain and anchor with sea water and spray the chain and anchor with about 3-5 gallons of fresh water to rinse of the salt after it's in the locker
Your vids are out of this world. Port mcneil was a base for me until I got bit by the spouse. Need to get back there. Good vibes. Soon.... thanks.
Glad you like them!
Continue to ❤ your videos. Thank you for taking the time to share your adventures!!
You guys are SO remote! Wow! I can't imagine being so disconnected! What's funny is I would find it entirely reasonable for you to be 100 miles offshore! I guess I've never experienced that kind of wilderness. The nachos look awesome. Thanks for the adventure. PS note to self: bring a machete to make my own trail!
Beautiful surroundings. Definitely an impressive tree. I love your videos. I'm watching from Queensland, Australia, as usual.
Those nachos look impressive, most impressive!!
its also called glacial till'
GLAD WE GOT TO "SEE DAR" TREE. USED TO HAVE A HUGE OLD ONE HERE IN NW OREGON BUT THINK IT GOT CREMATED, BUT I COULD BE MISTAKEN.
Them thar nachos looked really good. 1000 year old trees are impressive but bears are scary.
The thing with bears is usually you smell them before you see or hear them.
IMO they have no clue.
Very true.👍
lol…she’s such a city girl 😂
reminds me of Eva Gabor on Green Acres 🤣
I like to say “Glamper!” 😉
That tree was cool!! Glad you didn’t get eaten 😜
Great video,thanks for sharing. 😊😊
Nice quality vid-work; y'all just get better and better! Love the soundtrack as well -- nice to hear some cool music that's retro and current-feeling at the same time. Keep up the good work!
How special to see the whale!! I have only seen one on my way down to Mexico. Magical
The whales are amazing! 😊. Their breath smells bad though when they blow too close lol
Some of the best video I have seen, Great job!
Thanks for an excellent video today.
You forgot to give the 1000 year old tree a hug.
Love it! This is now on our list of places to explore #onboardtangaroa. I also have the same Yeti mug as you and I love it. Funny, my hubby has the same colour as Shawn's!
Hahah I have the same Yeti Mug too! 😅😅😅
I really enjoy your shows thank you!
That abandoned marina is going to become a logistical nightmare for boaters when the docks break apart and start drifting and sinking
Yes it’s very sad, I wish the Canadian government gave interested owners/operators an incentive to take it on.
@@mvfreedom perhaps that's something both of you could take on... 😁
Wahoo, it's Sunday!
My laptop screen is too small...🤔 I wish you could have gotten a drone shot of that cedar's crown.
Just thinking... you guys might consider the Kwatsi Bay Lodge as a 'fixer-upper' project. We'd be here cheering you on. ha. Thanks for sharing your adventures!
We’d love that…might need to look into that 🤔
Another great one
I particularly enjoy the drone pictures. --BAK--
Any plans for Shawn to install an automatic anchor chain rinse sprayer? lol poor guy. 😂
Probably not.
There’s a 1,000 year old yew tree in my village.
thank you for your posts
I enjoy your vids, thanks guys
Is all you need is to run faster than Shawn. You won't get eaten by a bear. Nice job on the video.
Glad to see you doing videos again 👍
Thanks for another great video. Which one of you flies the drone?
This trip was Elizabeth 🙋🏻♀️ but on the dinghy ride to the cedar tree it was Shawn 🙋🏻♂️
You might find a monopole for your camera to help on these walks. You can use it as a walking stick rather than holding it out at the end of your arm
Great footage Liz 👍❤️
I would be more worried about the poison oak then any bears
Hi are you both still here in Canada?? It's a beautiful day here, I'm getting ready to go paddle boarding in the Burrard Inet at Barnet Marine Park.. Love your videos, Much Love from North Burnaby BC❤❤
No sadly we’re back in WA now 🫤
@@mvfreedomThanks for replying,.. Love your videos, ❤
Thanks!
Wow thank you so much!!!
Such a magnificent part of our neighbor to the North. Seeing that ancient tree was a great conquest for you kids. I could hear the pups disdain about being left onboard. Was that the generator running as you depart for shore?
Beautiful location! A real shame about the marina! Hopefully, someone will renovate it and bring it back to life!
Just stumbled onto your channel and really like it. Great drone footage!
Hi Shawn and Elizabeth. I have been watching your channel for a while and i can’t stop admiring the lifestyle you guys are enjoying. I love your boat and most of the adventures you guys embark on.
My question is in regards to the maintenance of the boat: Is it hard to up keep? expensive? Hard to insure?
I am honestly looking into your lifestyle for my retirement in a few years.
Thank you
“I don’t have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun you.”
Enjoy the channel. Have you ever considered boating without dogs? Seems like a whole lot of extra work.
No, they’re like our children 🐶❤️🐶
Very nice
Like the boots... Could you do high heels next? j/k Don't think Shawn could pull it off... Very cool tree. Did it have a strong scent? Would love to know the diameter...
hey guys sorry i have not keep up, I lost my best friend my sister, we always did a lot together. she was the youngest me oldest, she passed away in Aug 28th from covid at 65 yrs young. we where going to do lunch like we always did on my Birthday 9-3, instead i had to say goodbye. I`m still lost, losing my dad at 14, and my wife at 32, and now my sister. How does life go on? I want to retire early in 2yrs, but now why? what will i do travel alone? Life is just no fun right now. enjoy your life together, because you never know what tomorrow brings. take care your friend. Mike Jernigan
Hang in there, Mike.....I'm in the same boat!.......Everyone in my life, gone.......I'm the lone survivor!........Just look for the good moments in life every day and keep breathing!.......Your family would want you to!
You are so funny! Beautiful but funny!!!❤
Is the tree on the waterfall trail?
No we think that trail is by Kwatsi, not in Watson Cove.
Now that we are back on the water.......then the dorsal fin of the Orca rises majestically....kidding
Hey kids great video! I think this is the second video that I've watched where you guys are uncomfortable with possible Wildlife encounters. Next time bring a pot and a spoon and bang on it or sing your favorite song loudly and badly, the whole point is just make a lot of noise. Problem is you won't see any fun little cute animals, but you won't see anything either which means no bears.
Hey, how is the old guy you used to boat with? I watched your videos many months ago, and he was travelling with you. I think he had a mustache.
Dennis is doing great, thanks for asking!!!
Sully says 3 words, “where’s my nachos?”
Shawn, next time before you take a bear country walk, record a TH-cam video of a grizzly bear roaring. We don't have grizzly bears in Florida so I record rattlesnake's rattles. Always gets a reaction. Make sure you are holding the bear spray, not Elizabeth.
There's another old cedar at Blind Channel -
Hi guys; I noticed that when you were leaving MV Freedom to go see the 1000-year-old tree, there was some overboard discharge taking place on the port side aft. What water would be going overboard? Was the water maker running? Love your videos. Keep them coming. Blessings.
Probably the generator.
@@johnlatulippe5939 it was not a steady stream coming out of the through hole fitting. I only saw it on the video for just a few seconds.
Kwatsi bay nachos.. 😳…😝
