Hi Dan. I friend introduced me to the Silky Cream pot. He removed a mark from my van that I had on the side for over a year. Very impressed, just ordered some. Thanks Phil🙂👍
Thanks Phil, yep - Silky is really good for getting those grubby bits off. hope you are both well #StaySafe.
Thank you, new to the caravanning world and your videos have proved invaluable so far. Thank again.
Thanks Dan, that was the caravan "fix" I needed as I'm sat at home twiddling my thumbs
Deep clean our Knaus StarClass 470 once a year. Takes a good weekend doing everything solo. Full wash including the roof & wheels for Day 1, including polishing with Autoglym SRP polish. Day 2 (and possibly Day 3) is two applications of Collinite 476S Double Hard paste wax. I do have the advantage of a cordless DA polisher (for both wax application & polishing), so its not as hard work as it sounds
Also clean all external electrical connections & after checking all bulbs use bulb grease (dielectric grease) to ensure good year round connectivity & easy stress-free hitching
Love these videos and I haven’t even got a caravan. You so passionate Dan and it’s infectious!
Thanks Dan, great tip to use fingers to wash acrylic windows 👍😁
Morning, thanks for your comment, i learnt this tip after some "bad experience" so far, this technique has worked well for us. Hope you are both well. #StaySafe
Another great video Dan, we bought our new to us twin axel abbey in feb and previous owner had clearly washed it but to touch it was rough so i got silky on it, scrubbed whole van and now its nice n smooth i got half the roof done before lock down, definitely feel size difference when cleaning compared to our 18 foot caravan lol. Once lock down over i want to silky rest of roof then wash whole van down with Fenwicks and bobby dazzler but after your video i might try silky deep clean. Then polish n vax. I found after deep clean once a year a quick wipe over was all our old van needed once we arrived on site or back to storage.
Thank you for a detailed exterior cleaning vid- much appreciated! Now looking for cleaning products 🤞🏻
I used clay bar for the overspray on my caravan it was amazing and made the great of the caravan so smooth
Thanks Dan, good tips there especially on the windows, guess who'll be releasing a cleaning video soon? 👍😁
Great stuff Bob, hope you are both well. #StaySafe
Like the window tip. #staysafe
Thanks Vanessa, This was after some bitter experience on our last caravan. lol..Hope you too are staying safe.
Take care
Dan
Hi Dan, The caravan now looks like it has just come off the production line, good job done. I would say the black streaks came off easy because of the Diamondbrite treatment. Sometimes one has to be careful when choosing cleaning products as they can strip off a paint protection system such as Diamondbrite. Thanks for the detailed video. Rob
Thanks for the video Dan. Perfect way to clean the windows. Silky is the perfect product I've started using it as well
Thanks guys, yeah the windows are a tricky one, but doing it this way really does reduce the risk of scratches...
Hope you are both well #StaySafe
We are well thanks. Hope your family is too. Been a funny kind of week but fingers crossed everyone will come out the otherside
Great tip for the windows
Great video Dan thanks. Keeps me thinking of my van in these times. Will be using your tips when I can get to the van next. Keep them coming.
Thanks guys x
Top job Dan, Never tried Silky before, might have to give it a try. Good tip with the awning rail protector, mine defiantly needs cleaning. Hopefully we will be able to use our vans at some point this year!
Take care, keep safe, Martin
Thanks Martin, yeah i've always had great results with the Silky stuff. The temptation though is to use way too much... i have the same pot for 4 years now...
Brilliant vlog Dan. I am now going to give my caravan a really good clean inside and out. I have been using Silky for years as well.
Great timing - Shall be working hard on the van this weekend. Some great tips!
It's a beautiful van that Dan. Looking at one myself. Bit of a drive from West Wales, but might be worth it.
Great video Dan, lets hope everyone gets a chance to go out this year, stay safe 👍
Oh i hope so too. its going to be such a release to get outside...
Thanks for sharing the video!
Nice one Dan. I wash the car and van before every trip they have to be immaculate, I think it’s a Medical condition 😂🤣
Hi Dan, I have just watched your previous video on washing the caravan, I think was 5 years ago. The products you use now are they suitable for using in the washers you used in the storage with no washing facilities. I cannot wash my caravan in storage either, so I was going to invest in some of those yellow washers you had, am just wondering which products to purchase, as I have been washing my caravan with car wash and wax, while away off grid, but this year already it is going green, although there are no trees in the storage. Thanks for making such informative videos.
Hi Dan, gidday from NZ. Thanks for posting, great video. Hope you get the chance to use the caravan and release some of this COVID-19 lockdown pressure. Have been following you for a while now so please keep going and we look forward to many more adventures, tips and tours of caravan sites/factories and campgrounds for many years to come.
Looks nice and clean! I’m glad you mentioned the PH Neutral element as we have to use that on our Paintseal. So I will go and buy some Silky degreaser (I have some cream in the garage) Cheers, Oliver.
Great video Dan, always look forward to your next reviews. 👍👍🏴🏴👍
Thank you Linda, hope you are staying safe. Take care.
Dan
The Silky concentrate isn't available anywhere but I spoke to Chris Clark at Silky and he told me to go to their marine website. Different name but same product.
Yeah I was looking for the same type car cigarette lighter plugged hand held spotlamp that was stolen with the car in 1992 for years, finally found it on a marine site loooooooool
Great use of the Green screen Dan......Can everyone else spot it?
Hi dan ,thanks for all the videos you've posted ,they have been so helpful getting me started with our 9 year old bailey Olympus 2 that we bought last year , i have a little question if you dont mind?
When i was rotating the wheels today i wondered is it better to have rainwater draining down the front or back of the van when not in use , or if it matters at all.
love the videos, keep up the good work.hopefully we will all be back out enjoying our caravans in the near future.
Nice video Dan, we are big fans of Silky cream to.
Thanks Clive, hope you are well #StaySafe
@@TheTrudgians yes thanks all safe and well 2 of the household are key workers so it's busy busy.
Hi Dan what is the best stuff to get rid of little black spots on top of the roof thanks
Hi Dan, we can't get to our caravan as the site we store is part of the caravan and camping club so it's shut. We use the fenwicks cleaning products. Hope you are all well and stay safe.
Hi Will, i know the frustration, our storage is locked too. Thankfully most of this was filmed quite a few weeks ago. We used to Fenwicks and found it ok.
Take care #StaySafe
Great job, looks like it took a while! So just a twice a year job? Do you have a caravan cover for when in storage?
Hi I’m the Rally Secretary for the Berkshire Centre of the Caravan and Motorhome Club. I know that you live in Berkshire and are members of the club. I was wondering if there was a reason why you don’t come to any Rally’s or events with the Berkshire Centre. I know that you are keen and like going out to different places. When the season does get going again I would like to invite your family to join us on one of our Rally’s to see what you think and if it is something that you would enjoy.
what do you think about removing the tyre pull out from under the van and putting in the van or put in the boot of the car as I feel it's too awkward for me I'm now 71 in 4 days on Facebook a lot say to put in the van or boot hope you and the family are keeping well love your programs
Going to be a funny old season. We did a full clean just before we were due to go away on 23rd March but we all know what happened then. Still with the caravan at the house it’s never looked so clean. Got a new awning too so itching to get away. If we’re all following the rules we’ll get out sooner, Stay safe.
Sigh, i know that feeling.. A tidy clean house, and a caravan patiently waiting... I think the Autumn is going to be a busy season this year...
#StaySafe
See ive always used diamond wash diluted with water (no specific mix ratio) and our caravan looks brand new even though its 8 years old
Hi Dan
Let me give you a tip to save you a lot if work and get a super smooth ceramic high gloss finish to all parts of your van using this product renowned in automotive detailing.
Buy a bottle of Gyeon Bathe+ (Bathe+ not Bathe) ceramic shampoo.
This is the ONLY shampoo in the world that cleans and CERAMIC coats your caravan in 1 STEP simply by washing with a microfibre.
It cleans and leaves a ceramic coating so any subsequent dirt simply slides off.
It can also be used on acrylic windows , plastic , alloy wheels etc
I use it on my Lusso 2 and tow car...very easy and VERY effective.
It's that good we even now use it on all repaired cars in our bodyshops so they are given back to owners post repair n better than new condition in my opinion.
If your caravan is already CLEAN use Gyeon Wet Coat....spray on rinse off...when the rinse water contacts the product it activates the ceramic in the Wet Coat so you don't even need to wipe or rub...spray and rinse...job done your van is now CERAMIC COATED
It's a good tip to apply product to van windows with your finger tips but to add to that rinse your windows before applying product minimising feeling any "grit" as its applied as any potential grit would likely be rinsed off before applying.
Great video Dan - thanks. Much of that we do already but you have highlighted some important areas we previously missed! Whilst our van is over in storage we can't currently access it, but as soon as the lockdown is over we will bring it home and spruce it up "Trudgestyle". And by then you will have released your internal cleaning video! #jobstodo
Am struggling with some stubborn black streaks especially around the fridge vents. I have already used neat fenwicks - Dare I use some watered down t.cut? Should I (carefully) do the whole side to ensure that I don't end up with patches of brilliant white?!
Hi Dan - can you travel with the awning rail protectors in place? Something else to remember off the list if you can leave in place!
HI Yes you can, we do. if you are concerned about the awning protector coming off, you can buy end stops that screw into the rail. apply one at the bottom rear of the awning rail to stop anything passing.
Silky Deep Clean Concentrate looks like the bees knees, but it's been out of stock for some time now. Looks like Amazon don't stock it so wonder if you knew of any other outlets that can provide it Dan? Hope you're all well and sane!
Excellent Thank you .
As always Dan your videos are great you put a lot of effort and passion in to them, can I ask a question even though this was posted several weeks ago, my question is after washing my caravan I dry it using wash leathers is that ok ? Many thanks Martin
Hi Dan, great job there, it certainly needed a clean and came up sparkling. Out of interest how do you find them products in comparison to Fenwicks?
You must be doing a good job. Silky are sold out of the items you show here. I'm gutted. Just bought my first caravan and looking for "recommended" products to clean it.
Excellent video Dan. Which waterless wash and wax do you use?
Where can I get the three Silky products Dan cheers
I have just connected mains water to aquaroll, does this mean I will be able to use the shower 🚿 without fear of water running cold, what I'm trying to say will it heat up once it goes through system for long
Hi, sadly not - you will have continuous water but only 10 litres of hot water, so you will last about 6 mins in the shower (depending how hot you have it)
hi would you recommend silicone spray to lubricate awning rail please
Great video Dan, really impressed with the Silky products and advice given. Are they all compatible with the Diamondbrite protection, we are having it applied to our new 'van when we collect it.
Hi Steve, they are yes. If you do have diamondbrite, just use some conserver in with the shampoo when washing down. You will notice what a difference it makes when you rinse off.
Perfect 👍
Nice Polly tunnel action this morning Mr H ;-)
Hi 👋 I was just wondering how much your carven was please let me know when you are ready.
22-23k at a guess
Hi Dan there small black spots on top of my caravan which stuff do you recommend for removing them thanks
Morning Alan, a good car cleaner warm water and a stiff brush should deal with it. Check my video on cleaning the roof, we had a really mucky Lunar, and with some car shampoo, a long reach brush we were able to clean it up quite well.
If that fails, use somthing like Silky to rub into the skin of the roof - this will take more work, but will do the job.
Hope that helps
Dan
InstaBlaster...
Hi Dan hope u well can u tell me what silicon spray u use to spray round your rubber window seals and where I can get some from please thanks say safe
Kev
The wd40 one is brilliant, available from halfords
Nice job! Wish we can go camping this year.🙁
I know exactly what you mean Jo, cannot wait to get out.
Good tips dan , my van has a solar panel fitted the gap between the roof and the panel is roughly 3/4” with loads of green moss in there what do you recommend to clean it ? Cheers gary
Hi Gary, so i have the exact problem and what i do is wrap some micro fibre cloth around the handle of the long brush you saw me use. If that doesn't quite fit, try a cloth wrapped (tied off) on some garden bamboo canes. that should hopefully get you under the panel.
Hope that helps.
The Trudgians o
Great job Dan but I would have been going mad now if I had paid for Dimondbrite and having to scrub your caravan like you have with all them chemicals.
I’ve had them all in the past but if you’re paying up to £500 think I would be getting them back to clean it.
I no you get a warranty of Dimondbrite and the other one the dealerships are pushing onto customers but who has ever actually put them to the test.
Think what you have just been doing is the best option good wash ,with a once of year descent car polish.
Morning, Im really impressed with the diamondbrite, but maybe expectations are a bit high for this product. It doesn't stop the caravan from getting dirty and it will not prevent the black streaks from forming. It does however make the cleaning process a lot quicker / easier and the results when finished are amazing. Consider to clean this caravan in the state it was in, including dragging it in and out of its storage bay, with filming took no longer than 2 hours. Thats the roof, the sides, wax and wipe down.
Diamondbrite makes day to day maintenance so very easy, and really the hard work here was not scrubbing the caravan, but filming it to make a useful video. I will 100% be getting diamondbrite again on any future purchase.
Dan I’ve had this done used the correct shampoo and as I expected for the first few washes it seems fine. But think this is because the caravan is new any way.
I no it doesn’t stop streaks or mold but really if you’re honest was does it do.
I’ve caravanned for years trying them all thinking this time it will work but Ian not wasting my money anymore.
I watched your video of your caravan Dimondbrite being applied and the guy doing it said you put on the stage one then leave to dry then wipe off.
Then apply stage two leave to dry and wipe off.
But then in another video the same guy but two of them, same products apply stage one leave to dry don’t wipe off then apply stage two leave to dry them wipe off.
I checked with Dimondbrite and they confirmed that you leave stage one to dry and don’t wipe off till stage two is applied then wipe off.
I was just wounded if he used a different Dimondbrite?
But your caravan did look great after you cleaned it. I guy in Devon gave me a waterless spray, polish but said wash your van first. I tried it and the result was fantastic even removed black streak.
Good for windows etc even your own house windows didn’t have to clean them for weeks.
I got replacement from trago mills while in Devon think you can buy it online. It’s called Triplewax Dimond shake and shine.
Cheers Dan
Hi I wanted to clean my caravan but wasn’t sure if I was allowed on storage site? I take it you were 😄
No, our storage is locked up right now, most of this was filmed a few weeks back. cant wait to go and visit it - to check if its still clean!
#StaySafe
Where would I get awning rail protector from. Thanks in advance
google it
I used to use Fenwick's cleaner but I have never been completely satisfied. It left lots of black streaks behind. Having watched this video I thought I might try Silky Deep Cleaner but I can't get any. But I can get Silky Deep Cleaner from the Marine collection. But is it the same stuff? Boat and caravans are both made from GRP? Any thoughts anyone?
That's odd, we got our first caravan a few months ago and I've just given it its first clean. I used fenwicks cleaner and it looks brand spank now, I was really impressed. I just rubbed it on with a brush then hosed it off
Good vid Dan, thanks, our van is stuck on site in 🏴, We’re Welsh but definitely won’t travel to it given the circumstances but look forward to better times, can’t wait to clean it and settle down with a shit load of Bbq and beer 🤞🏻👍🏻stay safe.
Dan, do u recommend a caravan cover at all to put on over winter?
Hi Lynn, not for us - we use it right throughout the winter, so it wouldn't work for us. If you are likely to not use the caravan for some months, its a good idea to cover it, although - you will still need to give the caravan a good clean.
God video. But I'd like to assert that awning rail protectors are absolutely unnecessary. They just make a trap for all the dirt and goo what wind and rain would remove if the protector wasn't there. Protect the rails from what? Frost? The rails can't fill with water unless you've got a protector there 😉
Thanks for the comment, but i disagree 100%. The protector creates a lip that allows water to run off the roof and away from the body of the caravan. This in turn, reduces by quite a considerable amount any black streaks and will aide any muck to run off the roof and not into the channel. Furthermore with a clean awning rail (once removed) makes adding the awning back into the channel a lot easier.
I have experience of with and without the protectors, and i will always use them, from keeping the channel clear and the side of the caravan clean.
Hope that helps
Take care
Dan
Hi Dan, take your rings off if you're using your fingers on the windows. They can really scratch!
Thats a great tip - however, 22 years of marriage means it can no longer be removed from my finger, not sure how she achieved that lol.
Hope you are well. #StaySafe
hi ive been looking for a tracker for the caravan can you do a review or suggestions andy
Looks like u used that PH shampoo on your hair.
👍
7 likes , 7 dislikes ??? I think people don’t want to think about caravanning right now .
Anyway where was Mr. Feeney ?? You helped him with his !!
He was "busy" lol. it was a last minute thing to go and sort the caravan, we had a break in the weather so popped up. I think everyone else had the same idea...
The Trudgians I’m not allowed to clean my van on the storage site . But I don’t think I can even get access to it at the moment anyway .
Thats a bit crap tbh. if you're interested i'll give you a shout next time a space is available at ours... although, it is locked at the mo.
The Trudgians please do. An idea of prices would be good too please Dan . John has my number. Chris
@@TheTrudgians i promise to help on the next cleaning session! 😁 cheers Jon 🤓
a good job can you do my one too lol :)
