New Film adaptation - MISANTHROPOS - www.misanthropos.net - Timon of Athens - Shakespeare on Film!
Adapted by Maximianno Cobra, from Shakespeare's "Timon of Athens", the film exposes the timeless challenge of social hypocrisy, disillusion and annihilation against the poetics of friendship, love, and beauty.

Stupendous documentary. I knew him through “A Man for All Seasons”.

Thank you so much for uploading this, for theatre lovers like me, these documentaries are just pure gold dust. I would've loved to have seen Scofield on stage, I see a lot of him in Simon Russell Beale, though they're quite different actors. It's something about the way they tap into their humanity, they're both immensely intelligent actors yet in contrast have a quality of earthliness about them, they're both accessible. They're both able to imbue their characters with real psychological depth and yet sound truly beautiful whilst doing it. I massively regret missing Russell Beale in John Gabriel Borkman, a part which Scofield made his own. As Ian McKellen said, (to paraphrase) "when you have an opportunity to see a great actor in a great role, make sure you see it, otherwise you'll regret it".

Thank you for sharing this. I also listened to Amadeus recently. It's gripping - hilarious yet appalling. The acting is utterly sublime. Unforgettable.

The BBC should show this every day at Nine. Britain would be a happier place.

As someone who came to him in complete ignorance of his renown it was his portrayal as Hamlet’s father, the dead king, where he blew my mind. That portrayal along with John McEnery’s Mercutio in the 1969 adaptation of Romeo & Juliet are the 2 best Shakespeare performances I’ve seen. Thank you for the upload

      You are very welcome! Cheers!
Shakespeare Network founder, director Maximianno Cobra, considers Paul Scofield as a master and an "epiphenomenon" in the realm of acting.
