Mark I think the hole in the hive tool is there to pull out the occasional loose nail sticking out of bee equipment. I could be wrong. But I have used it to do just that when repairing boxes and frames. Love the video 's and music.
BBM with the way you work, you need a hive tool like Thors hammer. That way when ever you drop it or throw it away , it will come flying right back to you. Great video John, love watching them. What was the verdict on the CC bee clearing boards?
I use a utility belt and I put a good magnet in it and the hive tool sticks to the outside of it. The sticky honey and propolis stays on the outside, works great.
Year ago did you all have the sears an roe buck department stores over there . I think just about all of them have closed now ???? . Back in the 1960’s when I started bee keeping that is where I got all my bee supplies. Bees , boxes, tools , and back then you could order houses from them also .
Your girls always seem so calm. I have two hives, the most my location will allow short of permits and more land between buildings. What kind do you have or are they a mixture? I’ve got one Italian hive so calm I could work without a suit and no smoke and they would just go about their business and one Carniolan hive so cranky they will attack so much I’f it wasn’t for the lack of consistent attacking i’d swear they have been Africanized from rouge bees coming in from the nearby port I live by. Here in Houston Texas were having a bit of a dearth and our girls honey supers are a wee bit thin. They’re still out working, with my Italians doing everything I’ve been told they wouldn’t do like working in rain and overcast conditions, but short of bringing in some flowing plants I don’t know how well our honey stores will be.
I always complain that I cannot eat honey because I'm on the keto diet. I got sick for over a week and ate 3 pounds of it to keep my tonsils from choking me out.
Yes, we all have missed placed our hive tool or left it sitting someplace. This is my review of a beekeepers tool belt. th-cam.com/video/HWPMt40SYYk/w-d-xo.html I made a slightly larger one with a larger pouch and I have been using it for the last couple of months. I love it and it works great! Once you get used to putting your hive tool onto the magnet, I now do it without thinking. I found everything I needed on Amazon, I can post the links if your interested. Cheers! 🐝
Try sewing a magnet into the beltline and keep your hive tool on that. Try keeping it in your shirt pocket and attach the tool from the outside. Strapped to your left forearm, maybe? Epoxy the magnet to your smoker? Be imaginitive.
@@mikeburston9427 sometimes its covered in hunny. It could get messy. I'm an engineer. My purpose was to keep him from leaving it behind. I figured attaching it to the smoker might eliminate that possibility. Plus, if I know BBM, hes gonna use a strong magnet. That might get him in trouble through a bee suit. The last thing he wants is a hole where the magnet used to be! Lol
could be bloody funny seeing him stuck to the car because the magnet is too strong i can't remember where i found the idea of the magnet in the pocket but defiantly not my idea
Moses Quinby invented the modern bee smoker with a bellow attached to a tin burner in 1873 in the Mohawk Valley, New York

Some folks put a magnet in their pocket and then the hive took sticks to it and is with you when you need it 😜

@@ecoster9840 stainless is still magnetic
@@redlineXX NO it's not

Magnets in your pocket will help that Hive tool problem.
Mark you need a cape to go with that utility belt - and a big bee on your chest! LOL Lex :)
Love the music, it suits!
How is that refrigerator hive doing? Asking for a friend.
Just put a magnet in your pocket and it will hold your hive tool.
Try keeping a magnet in your bee suit pocket and stick your hive tool on it. Never lose it again !!!

Who made the first 🔥?
If you use shallower supers you would be more likely to get completely full and completely ripened frames

There is a bee belt.....just put bee belt or honey bee belt in the Google search bar....it has a magnetic disc that the hive tool can bee placed
Moses Quinby an American beekeeper invented the modern smoker in I believe the 1870's? Maybe 1872 or 1873.
Yup. Americans invent everything. Even TH-cam. Before that, they just used a bundle of sticks(sage) and hemp twine.
