They set new rules for the hospital about residents being to invested to one patient or specialty so the chief was reassigning pretty much all the patients to new residents!
The patient was like really hopeful and cheerful and didn’t let cancer get in the way of her life, but when they opened her up they saw her tumor progress and it was inoperable and she was most likely going to die in a few months. She was really in denial most of the time thinking “I’m gonna fight through this I’m gonna stay alive” but then it hit her that she was dying. Honestly this scene was truly beautiful and I cry every time.

She stepped out of denial and got emotional and choked up
It's more like she let go of her optimism at that moment and just let herself feel the pain of knowing she's about to die.
