"Why are you telling me all this?" and "So you're gonna feel sad for a little while, and that's okay. That's fine, but don't feel sad forever." are the two sections in this scene that make my bottom lip quiver. Super moving

This beautiful moment was possible because Alex was brutality honest(rude) with the patient (the mother) and motived her to have this conversation with her kid. These are the kind of moments fans dismiss as Alex being a jerk or an ass but he's an "ass" because he was honest with the patient and didn't give her falls hope, he told her the truth and that motives the mother to prepare her daughter for her death. So call him an ass all you want at least he doesn't lie and give patients who will die for sure falls hope because that the real ass giving a person falls hope when they shouldn't.

Sometimes hope will leads to some life expectancy...I have seen such cases...

Dr Khushboo Agarwal yes, but if you’re told you’re terminally ill and going under anaesthesia for a serious operation you have to let someone in your family know to prepare themselves

Poor Amelia, she didnt see this coming. I guess her mother was overprotective of her. Deep down she knew that Alex was damn right that the truth will come out.

My mother passed away from cancer when I was 11. This scene actually made me cry because I actually went through this. I'm 42 now and it still gets me.

From Rosanne, Scream 2, Desperate Housewives and this. Laurie Metcalf is a phenomenal actress. She deserves an Emmy for guest appearances on this show.

This episode is why I started writing my kids(especially my daughter) letters, to open on certain milestones.

They know how and where to hit us. I can't ever imagine losing my mom or my grandmother who raised me. well my grandmother had a brain tumor but she's ok now. I remember crying my eyes out in this scene. well I'm still crying well more on the sobbing side.

I loved this scene. Very much. It makes me think of my mom. I lost her when I was 17. She was really sick and I was so close to my mom. I am now 24 and married. But I’m not going to be sad forever.

Every single time I hear her talk about having a baby one day and how much their happiness is all that matters, my heart breaks.

She tells Alex that he doesn’t know what it’s like to smell your newborn’s head.
At the end of this, she sniffs Amelia’s head.

In January my dad got admitted to the hospital for a leg infection. They discovered that he had stage 4 lung cancer. He was told he’d have four months without treatment and maybe 1-1.5 years with treatment. I was 9 months pregnant when they officially told us the prognosis. I gave birth on March 1, and my dad passed away four days later. He made it one month.
    1:17
I wish I could’ve had one last conversation with him about exactly this. This scene is so powerful.

I was a nurse at a hospice center. This womans granddaughter (about 15 y.o. at the oldest) fell asleep. When she flatlined, her granddaughter started to wake up. My head nurse said "take her out" I cradled her and put her in my arms and carried her into another room so she could go back to sleep and brought her older sister (mid 20's) to the room to stay with her while the parents went with my co-worker to the grandmothers room. As I was about to leave that morning to go home, her mom came to me and said "thank you. They weren't ready to see their grandma's body". I didn't want her to see that. I wanted her to stay asleep knowing her grandma died peacefully.
