Became a fan of Outside Xbox about 18 months ago. Then Outside Xtra sprouted up, and I enjoyed the looser, louder vibe and rapport between you and Luke and the 3 OGs. Then... one day, in my recommended videos, on International Women's Day of all things... your videos on Street Harassment and Fake Girl Gamers. Since then, I've watched quite a lot of your stuff, and it's great. Really great. The authenticity, the sunny positivity without being phony... Had I more confidence and the technical know-how, I'd love to tell stories on video, but for now, I'm sticking with writing about craft beer and rock n roll. ... Any how, cheers from Canada. I never thought much of it, but the "ickle" part makes a lot of sense. I have never heard that in the US, but that's certainly how I've heard my nieces and nephews say it. Also, very tickled about your school story about being an Ellen. i was always called by my nickname by family and friends even if I didn't like it, and it wasn't until I turned 18 that I said, no more. I haven't had to explain my name, other than that I am not someone who paints spots on otters. I am merely good at noticing an otter should I see one. As in the more current, like as of 2022 and before, loading screen before an O X livestream. I watched one before, and before you and Luke came online, I was like, "those are otters." No subtext was required.
I am proud to say that, even as an American who at least doesn't remember ever hearing/seeing "ickle" used, I was able to piece together the meaning of your channel name rather easily after watching a video of yours and realizing that it was 3 words.

Outsidexbox is by far one of my favourite channels and I discovered it when they had about 800,00 subscribers. When Outside Xtra 'came out' I was so excited and was one the very first subscribers. I find both channels' content entertaining and informative, mostly that meowing the Skyrim theme is the one thing I need. Keep up the great work!

I literally just found out today about the whole Outside Xtra channel thingy. Even more recently I found out that Ellen has her own channel, and I gotta say, half an hour of watching her videos was enough for me to fall in love with her. I fully understood your username as soon as I first saw it - well, it was probably on the title cards on OX (and therefore all lowercase) so there was a moment of deciphering due to that. But I digress... Maybe the word "ickle" is more commonly known in the northeast of the US (it is called New England, after all)? As for Nellie, it's possible that growing up with a cousin named Nell (yes, her birth name is Nell and not Ellen) helped in that case. Anyhoo, random little ramble there but I wanted to share because I was actually a rather surprised that you get this question so much, and because I just find language and communication pretty fascinating. And because I thought you might appreciate knowing that some of your fans (Americans included!) do actually understand your adorable and spot-on choice of username. Thanks for all the great content - I've been making my way through these older videos here because I've watched all of outsidextra, some of them several times now, as well as most of outsidexbox. For what it's worth I'm an American and I never had trouble understanding the name. The only thing that tripped me up was the Rose part, since for some reason I kind of thought your last name was "From Outside Xtra" until I actually bothered to read the captions at the start of the OX videos :)
My daughter's called Ellen. We often called her Ellie before she could talk, but as soon as she was old enough to have an opinion, she made it quite clear that she was ELLEN. This hasn't stopped elderly family and neighbours calling her Ellie, or occasionally Ella, to this day (almost 2 decades later). However, her choice worked out well, as there was an Eleanor in her class who was Ellie, and they were able to be friends without confusion. Her childhood nickname was "Ellen Schmellen" by the way. I've no idea why!

A man sits in a cafe staring out the huge window, watching the rain that has started pouring. All of a sudden, he notices a young woman across the busy street. She wears no coat and carries no umbrella. The woman is standing motionless, staring intently at something, but try as he might, he cannot determine what it is as his vision is obscured by the multitudes only too eager to reach a dry destination. He realizes that she is crying, her tears mingling softly with the spring rain. Quickly he tips the barista and goes outside, heedless of the fact that he has forgotten his own umbrella in his haste. He crosses the street and makes his way towards the woman's still-crying figure.
"Are you OK miss" He asks.

In Canada, or at least Ontario, the famous elephant is Jumbo, an old circus elephant from the 19th century. He tripped and fell and was run-over by a train. Now there is a beer called Dead Elephant honouring him. I only think of this story because I am right now enjoying a pint of this beer.

I fully understood your username as soon as I first saw it - well, it was probably on the title cards on OX (and therefore all lowercase) so there was a moment of deciphering due to that. But I digress... Maybe the word "ickle" is more commonly known in the northeast of the US (it is called New England, after all)? As for Nellie, it's possible that growing up with a cousin named Nell (yes, her birth name is Nell and not Ellen) helped in that case. Anyhoo, random little ramble there but I wanted to share because I was actually a rather surprised that you get this question so much, and because I just find language and communication pretty fascinating. And because I thought you might appreciate knowing that some of your fans (Americans included!) do actually understand your adorable and spot-on choice of username.
Thanks for all the great content - I've been making my way through these older videos here because I've watched all of outsidextra, some of them several times now, as well as most of outsidexbox. Kind of a super fan, but I rarely post comments because I watch on my Xbox360 most of the time (accidentally on brand, lol) and there's no way to comment there. For what it's worth I'm an American and I never had trouble understanding the name. The only thing that tripped me up was the Rose part, since for some reason I kind of thought your last name was "From Outside Xtra" until I actually bothered to read the captions at the start of the OX videos :)

My daughter's called Ellen. We often called her Ellie before she could talk, but as soon as she was old enough to have an opinion, she made it quite clear that she was ELLEN. This hasn't stopped elderly family and neighbours calling her Ellie, or occasionally Ella, to this day (almost 2 decades later).
However, her choice worked out well, as there was an Eleanor in her class who was Ellie, and they were able to be friends without confusion.
Her childhood nickname was "Ellen Schmellen" by the way. I've no idea why!
