I saw this video on TikTok where the caption was lie on your resume or someone else will and actually get the job. I wouldn't promote blatantly lying on your resume without the skills to back up what you're saying but in today's market, telling white lies and adding fluff to your resume is essential to securing a job so long as you have the skills to back up those claims.

    • @bebdaumon3948

You have to do this in order to just get the interview. I got interviews once I started fluffing my resume making white lies. Just lie enough that you can cover it if they ask.

I had 10 years of military service on my resume and I actually had an interviewer say she was worried about hiring someone who was "literally unable" to get fired from their previous job. I ended up getting a government job that hired a LOT of veterans so it all worked out, but I wasn't ready for that response.

Most people don't realize that their job title that they are assigned by the company doesn't usually match what their job title is in their payroll systems. Companies play games with job titles for various reasons. Payroll job titles get reported to the government, not the job titles that the company tells you that you have. I've supported payroll systems at multiple companies. This is the norm. So if companies play fast and loose with job titles to manipulate reporting data to their benefit why shouldn't you too? What's good for the goose is also good for the gander.

What about the situation where your job title doesn't reflect the actual role, and you choose to use a more commonly recognized job title? For instance, if your official job title is "App Cons Dev 2," you might put "Software Engineer" on your resume because that’s what the role entails. However, I wouldn’t consider it appropriate for a junior developer to label themselves as a "Software Architect" on their resume.
Employers may become skeptical if people continue to misuse job titles. Until 2024, I never had to defend myself over whether I lied on my resume or about being a U.S. citizen.
Many don't understand why entry-level roles in the H-1B visa program often require ten years of experience. The law states that employers cannot fill these roles unless they demonstrate an inability to find an American candidate. They circumvent this by setting experience requirements for entry-level positions.
One way to address this issue is by establishing a minimum salary for H-1B visa holders, which could help ensure fairer compensation for these workers. This was something Trump implemented during his first term. However, it now seems that Trump is leaning towards following Elon Musk's advice, making H-1B visas easier for employers to obtain.

As someone who has 2 unique Job titles: Control Room Technician & Tenant Relations Manager I have to try to find the best closest match for them because most other businesses may classify those titles differently. Also when I began both of those jobs it wasn't under those titles, not a promotion and still the same job, but the requirement to have a title that better qualifies the role of the job was needed. Another example is when My workplace tried at splitting a job into 2 separate positions: Safety and Security Officer and separate them. The issue being it's a management position; people understand that for Safety Officer, but most Security guards are called Security Officer without it being managerial. A lot of people applied to it with the non-manager understanding and now they've recombined the job back.

My job title was changed from “Web Developer” to “Engineer” plain and simple. There’s no distinction of “Engineer” and I don’t feel comfortable with that. My resume says “Software Engineer” and I was able to get a new job with no questions asked about title.
I think my title was changed so they could justify paying us less when they did a comp study based on our titles. The engineering department was noted to be severely underpaid, but we got a raise with a title change. The raise was $2000 / yr despite saying we are 15% under the average they were aiming for.

So what happens when say you get a job offer, and then you get that email from ADP. the one requesting a background check. They'll call and verify dates of employment, job titles, and if you're re-hirable (your mileage may vary depending on your state). What do you do when on your resume you were a "Senior" when you weren't a Senior? Now, I'm all for resumes being "Sales brochures", I just want to be clear when the bg check gets sent out you're covering all your bases. For the record I have issues with bg checks, but losing out on an offer would suck a lot in today's market.

Take education out of the equation and what's wrong with sticking it to the man by lying on an application if you're able to do the job safely and properly. I would think you Joshua would be the first to say it's fine to stick it to these companies that are screwing Every day individuals, so a little payback is just fine as long as you're able to do the job

No point in making resumes anymore. They never read them and the resume goes right in the trash after the interview. The jobs just go to the boss’s relatives and friends anyway. Just do gig work.

Or you could get good at lying. You can easily fake work experience and skills, but not your education. Lie on things that can’t be verified. If you happen to know a friend who owns a business (no matter how small), tell them that you worked there for the same job that you are trying to apply for. If you don’t have a friend, make your own sole proprietorship. In most countries, this is completely free. You just decide that you are operating a business and you are.

@@abdul4515 This is what I did. I got an engineering degree, union journeyman card, and a CDL and lied about my entire work history to get an upper management role. There was no way I could have fit management experience in that time frame but there's no management cert so boom I was also a manager. Like freaking magic.
