idk about you but to me it looked like that motor was shaking when you were running it without the blades on. theres a chance that is also part of the issue with the balancing, but it also looks so minute that it could just be the blades EDIT: I think this might be a matter of adding material to the blades to get them to run nice and true.

That's in nice shape. That motor is interesting to me, it looks like it could easily have evolved into the newer Emerson K55 that is often seen in HVAC applications and was used in some ceiling fans until recently. Maybe this was the start of that design.

interesting. Yeah its a tank, and way overpowered for his application. But this thing runs smooth and pretty quiet now that I have the blades in better alignment. I'll bet this was an expensive appliance in its day.

@@thebombyall76One thing that may help in future blade balancing is aluminum foil tape. The adhesive is extremely good. It is extremely good to determine which blade is causing the imbalance. The good thing about the foil tape is it can be pulled and reapplied a few times before it becomes unusable, just be prepared it could come off if it is reused too much. Of course you can use longer pieces or shorter pieces. The aluminum foil tape can be used on the front or back of the blades and can be applied anywhere on the blade. Paper clips can also be used if the blade is flat on the inside (don't use paper clips if they can be slung or fly off. The aluminum foil tape is by far the best I've found when attempting a smooth perfectly balanced fan.

Seems like the blade hit something and knocked it out of clock. You may be able to walk it the other way and fix it. Use a soft wood to avoid damaging the blade.
