I have to ask that given today's level of technology, how long will it be before we see Earth marines use robot K9 style drones in movies. The Chinese already have their prototypes rigged with machine guns on their backs.

Because the US is focused on Naval versions of this. The US is nearing completion of the Manta Ray, which looks like its namesake. Able to operate autonomously, powered by the ocean itself, loiter in enemy waters, exc. Then there are the drone explosive systems that move like Tuna. Those are the not so classified systems, meaning you will probably not see the really classified stuff until there is a major war.
