    This was a very informative video. After seeing your rows are 10' apart, i think i am going to go with 12' to 14' apart on the rows. I want the two end rows of my five rows to be set up for the Geneva Double Curtain method. That way i can get my tractor up and down the rows a little more easily.
    I really like how you did the end posts.

    What did you use to dig the holes? Did you use any concrete for any post? It appears you did not use high tensile wire; reason? From the size of the vines, I would say your effort has paid off. Nice job!

    I have an identical muscadine setup with 2 variances. (1) I use a ratchet tightener on the wire between the brace posts, & (2) I didn’t install my end posts at an angle. I saw this video after the install. Everything else is the same. I have thirty four 240’ rows planted in 12/2018. Do you think my setup is sufficient stability-wise? I live in southern Georgia & my region consists mainly of pine forests, helping temper the wind, which is not commonly severe here anyway. My main concern is the ability of the bracing to withstand the weight of a crop. Each row contains 12 vines, with the vines & posts 20ft apart. The non-bracing trellis posts are 4x4s & the trellis wire is ran thru a drilled hole in the post, with rubber tubing liners in each post to minimize rubbing. I also have .75in dripline attached to these posts . Thank you for your input if you happen to see this comment. Your vineyard looks VERY well built & well maintained. Excellent setup, excellent video. Very easy to understand. Subscribed to your channel.

  • @rebeccaehrick971
    @rebeccaehrick971 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am getting ready to rehab some old (and sad) vines that were neglected on my property before we bought it, and plan to use your design. Do you only have the ratchet on one end of the set up, or both ends? Common sense tells me just one side, but wanted to verify what you did here

    • @gregpryorhomestead
      @gregpryorhomestead  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rebecca Ehrick just one end. You can be aggressive and prune right back, but leave a few buds or about 6 inches off the wire. It'll "bleed" a lot of sap but trust me, these vines are crazy resilient. Keep me posted! Winter is the best time to prune.

      Jesse Klaus for these grape varieties, there's no difference in yield between designs. I went to wineries and the Clemson University demonstration vineyard and saw it in person.

    • @CenPapi
      @CenPapi 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Meko Meko I don't think you cement(concrete) any of the posts which is why you use treated wood or cedar, it would make it much more difficult to replace them if they were damaged or too weathered.

    I know there must be a good reason you laid the wire on the top of the post instead of drilling a hole thru the post and simply running the wire thru the hole to support the wire from sagging. Please help just getting started.
