Mercedes benz c180 (w202) faulty vacuum pump, how to open the boot.

- Mercedes Benz c180 classic 1.8 1998 (w202). The central locking was not working, I could not open the boot to get at the vacuum pump, there was no power as the battery was totally dead, I opened the door with the key on the FOB, opened the bonnet and connected a charger to the terminal block to charge the battery, the car started after charging but still couldn't open boot, so in this video I show you how to get into the boot to get to the vacuum pump to fix/test or remove and replace.

The Mercedes key fob has a removable key that mechanically opens the boot and also driver door. No need to cut into the boot
Agreed on this one. I encounter same problem with the vacum pump malfunction. I open the rear trunk using the mechanical on the key fob. No need to make an opening on the behind rear seat.
It's a common occurrence for the key not opening the doors. Can't open the driver nor the trunk

Some W202s had the option of the rear-seat ski-hole. Easy access if you have this.
Unfortunately mine had a steel plate behind the seat rest, no hole so had to make one.

drill left side of lock on boot, use a screwdriver insert downward only a few cm, and lever up inside the lock, opening the boot
Pumps working, central locking working fuses ok. Pissed off.
I like the video but how did you get the back rear cushion out; that is where we are. Is it just a lift and pull?
The rear seat back rest has 3 bolts securing it to the rear panel located by the seat belt buckles. Once they are removed lift the seat cushion up to unhook it from the top securing position located behind along the top edge of the cushion, one on each side, hence why you can't see how the cushion is secured to the back panel. Hope this help.

There must be a better way. Or did Mercedes have some Renault engineers over to make this car?
i had to do the same thing cause of similar problem ,battery was dead and i didnt have the key .(only the fob).it worked

By the way one of the door can't operate when turn if open. It can be lock.
Can it be opened with a key? 1996 W202 can.
"Vacuum pump" is your engine intake.
Vacuum pump is in the boot.

Try the key in your key fob to open the boot, if it not possible then you have to resorts to measures like me.

If you don't have a key then their is no way you can get in. I don't know any other way of getting in except to either use a door latch opening tool. Or the simple way is to break one of you small windows to get in and replace it. That's what I would do as a last option.

Does it require decoding on the dealer?
No. No decoding from dealer. Just get the exact same vacuum pump and replace it.
