  • In this video I answer the question that I get quite bit about more affordable alternatives to the Power-Pole Micro Anchor. While I believe that the Power-Pole is one of my most useful tools, I understand that it doesn't fit some peoples budgets so this video discusses many of the more affordable options.

I used to kayak a half a lifetime ago and LOVED it. Recently got back into shooting and my neighbor has started dragging me along fishing (god bless him). Now TH-cam took me to all these great kayak fishing channels, which I've subscribed to, and here I am saving up for my first fishing kayak. I'm a big guy so it won't be cheap and if I've learned anything it's buy once cry once. I love all the info on these channels. Thanks very much for sharing all your knowledge and water wisdom you've built up over the years. It's fun and I really appreciate all the work you put into it. I think I might drive down to Jackson Kayak and see if they can't help me figure out which yak to try first. My goal is to be out on the water next spring. Save that money!

Many years ago I found a 1 1/2 inch diameter, 8 foot long fiberglass rod at Grainger for like $25. Cut that sucker up drilled holes in it, and epoxied couplers and threaded rod in it to make a multi-piece stake out pole. It worked well, but was heavy and definitely didn't float. Not nearly as nice as the the park n pole, but it did the trick! Glad Luther and Chad are out there revolutionizing this hobby with quality gear!

I made one too. I install garage doors. So I used a residential spring shaft. 10 feet long, with a shovel handle bolted to the top, and a wooden sharpened dowel at the business end. Painted black and works great especially in current. Thanks again Chad for the great kayak content.

I appreciate the video! I have fished with a recreational kayak for years, and just picked up a 2019 Hobie Outback. I typically fish rivers here in SC, so I owned (but rarely used) a five pound anchor. I recently learned about stake put poles and it looks to me like the best one around is the Yak Attack version. I appreciate the unique design features you worked in, especially the "hook" feature. As someone who fishes oyster beds about 75% of the time, the ability to pop a jighead loose with the pole is very appealing. Thanks again for the great video and for your design expertise! Now I've gotta go find a Yak Attack Park and Pole to buy!

I've used a fiberglass garden hoe handle with the blade removed. I drilled out the handle end and epoxied a sharpened 6" piece of 1/2" round rod to use as the spike end, and still have the original hook on the other end to grab things or manipulate the pole with. It's not as versatile as my Park-n-Pole, but it certainly has seen it's fair share of duty out and about on the water with me over the years.
Chad, I appreciate you, man !!!

I've been a kayak fisherman for years and have been thinking about a power pole but since there are so many other things I could buy with I may go low tech for now now and use the savings to buy more tackle and lures. P.S. I have been mostly fly fishing up till now so there are plenty of new toys to buy!
