    When it comes to building a big, thick chest for guys our age...
    There are a handful of exercises you must AVOID...
    Because they put the shoulders in an awkward position and can cause injuries, discomfort... and kill your progress.
    With that said...
    There are a lot of great exercises to build a big chest after 40...
    And I go over them all in today's video!

    Good advice, especially for us older guys! Going to try all these exercises next time I go to gym on shoulder day. Really like that that last 2-in-1 incline fly and press!

    Again, I will have to rethink my work outs from here. You give good examples. I have been doing all of these but had to start using lower weights. It seems that using dumbbells is the way to go and focusing on form and doing the exercises slowly. I am going to do check tomorrow so I will make a change and do your recommenced exercises.

    I to need that unintelligent chest, reverse evolution styles using dumbbells. Awesome vid, once we are out of lockdown gonna get some dumbies for home.

    As I got older I discovered this: flat bench began to hurt my shoulders and then it was incline press. Dumbells seemed to be much kinder to my shoulders. Most of those who have been training for 20 plus years agree with me.

    great presentation, dumbell press is the way to go. I switch of between barbell and dumbell presses, heavy 5 x 5 on barbell and moderate weight 3 x 15 on dumbells. I get the best of both, what do you think.

    Thanks again for another informational video. You guys are my go to for safe, results oriented workouts of which many, I can do at home. Just did your 6 Minute Full Body before watching this one. At 54, the main people I want to impress are my wife, myself, and make my doctor mad.😁

    I started working out when I was 16 and then I stopped when I was 21. And started working out again when I was 35 and when I did I just blew up but the only problem is my arms exploded and my chest never really wanted to do anything I mean I put a little bit on but my arms just dominate my chest. My arms are 17in and my chest is 44 inches and I don't have much of an upper chest. And I agree with you whenever I did barbell bench presses or anything it hurt my shoulders so I've just been sticking with dumbbells for the past 6 years. I just don't know why my chest won't respond like my arms. I am 47 now in still in really good shape. Nothing much has changed there. I'm thinking about doing my chest 2 days a week or do you think it's too late for me to put any muscle size in my chest for my age now?

    All I got for weights is adjustable dumbbells. Yes I've been to them but I never get a chance to make it to a gym anymore cause all the good gyms are hours away and no I'm good

  • @shawnjbray

    The trainer for me when I first started building muscle told me the decline bench is a the worst lift. Said yes it does work you out but it has more of a chance to hurt you than it does to actually build muscle

    Agreed with you until you did the lateral fly and press for your upper chest. The lateral fly is terrible,on the shoulders and I noticed you even went beyond the plane of your chest and brought your shoulders too low. A real shoulder killer. Incline dumbbell presses and cable crossovers from low to high are much better upper chest movements.

    • @Utoobeedoo
      @Utoobeedoo 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don't think he's doing a true fly. He's keeping his arms bent and just goes down into a stretch. With a true fly the hands go further out and there's less bend in the arms. You're right about the fly being risky for the shoulders, but that's not what I see here.

  • @bobby6517
    @bobby6517 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dorian Yates tends to disagree with you ,as do I when it comes to decline bench press ! Takes the shoulders out of the lift , activates more muscle fibres than the other 2, but I suppose everyone is different.
