    I’ve been on your dental program for one year and use your xylitol mints after every meal. I’ve gone from severe gum disease with spongy bleeding gums with deep pockets and loose teeth to healthy firm gums that no longer bleed. I use to have cleanings every 3 months due to plaque buildup. Last week I had my first dentist visit in over a year. He said my gums were in fantastic shape and he found very little plaque. I still have some residual mild sensitivity due to root exposure. I believe this is result of excessive use of bleaching strips over the years. I have recently added an oral probiotic lozenge that I use at night. I truly believe your program has saved my teeth and improved my overall systemic health.

      @DivyaGond-y6j It sounds as if you need to rest and relax...
      Remember "mouth resting" means NOTHING in your mouth...no more xylitol - NOTHING in your mouth for two hours after the xylitol. Don't expect a week to change twenty years of damage.
      This repair involves your overall body health, diet, nutrition, exercise, sleep.....so much.
      Calm - rest - talk nicely to your body.....enjoy the journey and allow your body time to heal itself.
      Yes, it may take two years to change the outcome if whiteness is your goal....
      I don't know what your problems are - but does your mouth FEEL better?

    Wow so much little details here and there that we would never realised! I thought chewing gum for longer is even better since it helps generate saliva. And I would chew extensively because I would try to exercise dental bone (since aging causes bone loss) and I have lost a lot of bone due gum disease. I never realise about nitric oxide and bacteria at the back of our tongue. Notes taken. Thank you!

  • @WeAreAllOneNature
    @WeAreAllOneNature 23 วันที่ผ่านมา +41

    Summary:
    After a meal, put some xylitol in your mouth. Xylitol feeds the good bacteria and makes bad plaque bacteria less harmful. Xylitol causes a good flow of special saliva (spit) into your mouth. This 'stimulated saliva' has lots of minerals that protect the teeth, repairs the tooth enamel, and has lots of immune cells that can help heal the gums.
    The good bacteria on the top, back of the tongue, which get fed by the mineral-rich stimulated saliva, produce Nitic Oxide which you swallow. This helps your breathing, heart and brain health.
    After taking xylitol, don't eat or drink anything for preferably a few hours. 60 to 90 minutes after lunch is when the best benefits occur.

    Love your program! After meals, I crunch up four Zellies tablets but don't swallow right away - I swish the saliva and xylitol for awhile. Then I swallow and don't eat or drink for an hour or two. I'm finding it really helpful. You had recommended sprinkling xylitol on your toothpaste before brushing, but it's kind of clumsy to do, so I got a salt shaker and filled it with crystalized xylitol so I can sprinkle it easily before brushing. Keep up all these great suggestions! Thank you! 🦷🪥

    Clear, Thank you Dr. Ellie. I started practising using Xylitol and stopped eating sweets and snacks between meals. Previously, I had had a check up and my doctor told that I didn't have any cavity, no calculus, no gum disease, but I asked him to do cleaning and he did. I am sure that my perfect mouth hygiene + using Xylitol daily+ no snacks and sweets+fluorisation two times per year will make my teeth stronger... I implemented your pieces of advice and we will move up together.
    This topic with resting is very interesting, but I suppose that there are more groups of bacteria in our body which are able to produce nitric oxide?

I realise Dr Ellie recommends a particular Colgate toothpaste that also has fluoride in it, but to be very careful not to swallow it & personally I would avoid any internal/ tongue or cheek contact & especially twice a year fluoride treatments, because it is a neurotoxin .. hopefully the Xylitol & low/ no sugar diet & no snacks, & mouth-resting & your good oral & gut microbiome, & general health, will all be enough without the fluoride 😊🙏👍🤗

      Using xylitol prompts a fresh flow of mineral-enriched saliva into the mouth which will neutralize acidity and remineralize the teeth. This saliva is healing to oral health, and it is a different kind of saliva than you usually have in the mouth (comes from other glands in the mouth).

    Sadly I’ve experienced stomach upset issues after using the xylitol…I decided to stop drinking coffee to see if that was a mitigating factor, but it really became clear when I stopped taking xylitol for several days & my stomach issues stopped bothering me. Is it normal for some folks to experience stomach discomfort when using it? I’m not sure if I’m just experiencing a personal anomaly or if this is a known response to this part of the treatment.

    • @dl7596
      @dl7596 23 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@Laura-sg6ss She's talking about swallowing the nitric oxide , not the xylitol. The X feeds the good, starves the bad, acid- forming bacteria. The kind of good bacteria that seem to congregate in the conditions in the back of the tongue must continue to produce the NO for some unspecified period of time.
      I and others I've watched and read, don't usually swallow the Xylitol.
      Using the crystals, many use 1/4 tsp = 1 gram, for about 5 minutes, then spit out. I don't use her gum,
      The mints are half strength of the gum, so 2 at a time to = 1 gram are recommended for adults.
      Her mints, which don't have the added ingredients others have, are expensive.
      So I keep some mints in my purse and at home, and use one occasionally, like while driving, where I do swallow after holding in my mouth and swishing for about 5 minutes. At home, I generally spit that out too if convenient.

      The Closys mouth rinse she recommends is said to neutralize the acidity of the mouth. It's step one of her mouth care system, so each time before you brush, you neutralize the PH of your mouth. After the lemon water, rinse with Closys and either do the full mouth care system, or you can probably just take Xylitol if it's not one of the x2 times she recommends to brush your teeth. Every 12 is hours, so in the morning and at night.

    • @SunrayStar
      @SunrayStar 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The other commenters are right. It does not sound like you are doing the CMCS, so if you aren't, then you can have your lemon water every morning and then immediately stop the acidity by taking xylitol right after it. That will prevent the acid damage continuing. (After xylitol, then let your mouth rest by not eating or drinking anything else for at least 1-2 hours to allow your saliva to remineralize the teeth.)
      If you _are_ using Dr. Ellie's CMCS, you can still have your lemon water every morning; you would then just have to decide whether you wanted to use plain xylitol right after the lemon water OR do the CMCS. Either way, you need to allow the mouth resting after either one to get the full benefit.

      Mouth resting at night is not helpful because your saliva’s Circadian rhythm works against our teeth during those hours. The Complete System I recommend PROTECTS you from this potential damage time.
      Mouth resting during the day - after using xylitol is when you get NATURAL HEALING from the benefits provided by your saliva’s minerals and immune cells etc. Ideal is a two hour rest time after nutritious meals.

    Question! Do you brush after using xylitol and before mouth resting?

    • @SunrayStar
      @SunrayStar 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      No - do not brush after using xylitol. If you are not using Dr. Ellie's CMCS, then you would be brushing away the good effects of the xylitol, and prohibiting tooth remineralization that would occur next. And if you are using her CMCS, then you would still not use xylitol before the CMCS protocol, because using xylitol soon before doing the system will deactivate the Step 1 Closys. If you are just doing regular plain old teeth brushing and that is all, then brush your teeth first, then use xylitol, then mouth rest. Or if it is a time you will not be brushing your teeth after eating, then as soon as you're finished eating/drinking, take xylitol and then mouth rest.

      @SunrayStar 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Dr. Ellie spoke on this subject elsewhere:
      "Teeth staining: “Good stains” are seen on teeth when dental disease has been rapidly controlled, when the remnants of thick plaque and harmful bacteria die off quickly. The debris collects around the tooth, often looking like a dark stain at the gum line. This stain is the sign of improved oral health, less bleeding, and a healthier mouth and gums. A dental cleaning will quickly remove this kind of staining and leave the healthier teeth pristine and white.
      If you do not have a cleaning within a couple of months of starting the complete system, the sudden improvement in your oral health may result in a thin band of stain forming around the edges of your teeth at the gum line. This staining is not a problem, is not permanent, and is not at all unhealthy. This stain is dead plaque debris that has shriveled up and formed a hair-like deposit around the edge of your teeth. One cleaning at the dentist will remove this band of debris.
      Ways to address:
      1. Are you using the Mouthwatchers brushes that I recommend? (And have 2 of them - one for AM and one for PM.) You must get away from fear of brushing too hard. It's not true and you will not do damage by brushing - you will get rid of these stains!
      2. Do you let your brushes dry for 24 hours between uses? Never soak them in anything or they will get too soft.
      3. Are you brushing this area of your mouth where you are seeing the stains? Aim at these areas first, when you have the most toothpaste on your brush, and before you do the gum massage, etc - this is almost always superficial debris that just takes a bit more work to remove.
      4. Are you using the system 2x daily? You will get staining if more plaque forms on teeth every 12 hours during the first months - before the oral bacteria have been balanced. In the future you may be able to skip a time or two - but not in the first months.
      5. Do you stop eating and drinking completely - not even water - after the xylitol at the end of meals? This allows the new healthy protective biofilm to form, and it is this biofilm that will stop your teeth from accumulation of this debris. You may also want to have a Zellies mint last thing at night before sleeping.
      6. This stain is not a health problem - just no one likes a dark stain. But it is superficial debris and will brush off; just use a bit more toothpaste and some more energy on these areas.
      7. IF this extra energy and toothpaste trick is NOT ENOUGH to get rid of the stain - then you are going to make a special paste for yourself - Exfoliating paste: Mix together half a teaspoon of granular xylitol with a big squeeze of the Crest Cavity Protection toothpaste. Use this exfoliating toothpaste mixture - aim at the stains first thing every morning (not during the system.…but as you get out of bed in the morning). Just target these stains with this mixture of xylitol crystals + toothpaste. In 3-4 days the staining should have disappeared completely. Then you do not need to keep using this mixture; you can go back to the normal paste as a part of the system.”

If there is anything else mixed in or blended with it, then it will be a wrong product and it will not work well. It will come in a bag, 1 pound or more, sometimes even a big bag like 5 pounds.
      Here are xylitol instructions: Take at least 6-7 grams total per day of xylitol, but no need to take any more than 10 grams/day at the most. Let it dissolve in the mouth for just a couple minutes until you feel the fresh rush of saliva in the mouth and then swallow. Take it in small 1g (1/4 teaspoon granules, or 2 mints if you use mints) doses all throughout the day at these times: take it after every meal, snack or drink of liquid (even water), and then (this is super important!) do mouth resting, which is this: do not eat or drink anything else (even water) for at least 1-2 hours or longer (longer is better) to allow the saliva to remineralize the teeth and heal the gums. Another really great time to take it is right before you get into bed for the night so it can help you overnight.

    should I be taking Xylitol after I use your rinse/brush/rinse method? I find that when I wake up in the morning my mouth feels very dry. I drink water with coconut water (I live in the tropics) and then go for a walk early morning,. After drinking I chew Xylitol and then make breakfast but it is at least 90 minutes before I eat/drink anything. But I am wonderng if I should let Xylitol mints dissolve on my mouth before sleeping. I am supposed to wear a night guard but often don’t. My mouth feels horrible when I do in any case.

    • @SunrayStar
      @SunrayStar 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      No, you should not use xylitol immediately after doing the system. After the last step of the system (ACT), you should not put anything else (food, liquids, or xylitol) in the mouth for as long as you can to allow the ACT to work on the teeth. This really should be at least one hour or longer until you would use xylitol or anything else.
      So do you drink the coconut water right away when you get up in the mornings? If so, you could drink the coconut water first, then take xylitol right after it and then go for your walk, which would allow the xylitol's effects to work. It sounds like your timing is already really good on when you take the xylitol and then later on eat after your walk. The 90 minutes that you wait after having xylitol until you end up eating is fantastic.
      About your dry mouth, Dr. Ellie encourages people with dry mouth to take xylitol last thing at night, right before they go to bed, and then if you wake up in the middle of the night, you could even take another xylitol if you want to. Xylitol is really good for dry mouth.
      She has spoken elsewhere about night guards as something she does not recommend as they block your saliva from your teeth. It's good that you can get away with not wearing one all the time. For the times that you do wear one overnight, she recommends taking xylitol before bed, waiting about 10 minutes to allow the fresh mineral-filled saliva to enter the mouth, and then put the mouth guard in, which will "trap" some of this new saliva against the teeth inside the guard.

      What area do you live in? The proper versions of ACT are widely available in the US. Kids can use the system as long as they are old enough to be able to spit the products out and not swallow any; Dr. Ellie says this is usually around 6-7 years old.

    Is there documentation for the effect of xylitol when used in this way?

      Any and every registered dental hygienist will tell you the same thing and they use it.

      Take a look at Finland - they're the original leaders in xylitol wayyyy far back and did lots of their own studies.

      I have the same issue and hope Dr Ellie responds to your comment. Mine teeth are maybe more with black stains. She said somewhere that it is the dead plaque and to scrub it with toothpaste with Xylitol crystals but that does not seem to work for me.

      Xylitol is not bad for the heart. You are referring to a very flawed study in 2024 paid for by businessmen to discredit xylitol because they were interested in marketing a competing product. Dr. Ellie has addressed this issue in articles on her site and also made a video on here on that subject.

    Can you explain why he said mouth wash and fluoride is bad? th-cam.com/video/mUlwb2dbUms/w-d-xo.htmlsi=d93H4zwQ2AgXwhY3

    • @dr.elliephillips

      I can’t explain WHY - because he won’t talk to me. Obviously he has some agenda beyond clinical oral health.
      The only studies that show damage denitrifying bacteria to affect blood pressure and NO production is hospital grade Chlorhexidine antiseptic. The other studies have shown Listerine has the same effect as water- the control.
      When you mention fluoride as a scientist you must define the kind of COMPOUND you are talking about. Stannous / tin based fluoride is toxic to mouth bacteria but SODIUM fluoride is the ONLY fluoride I have EVER recommended.
      The concentration of fluoride is another important consideration - and the only fluoride rinse I recommend is a dilution of 0.05%. Never stronger.
      Details in science matter - unless you are on another mission.

    Google says "studies have found that higher levels of xylitol in the blood are associated with an increased risk of heart attack and stroke".
    Not sure how much xtlitol will end up in the blood by chewing this gum daily but this is a bit concerning to me
