Night by the Zambezi river - Sounds of Africa

The mesmerising sounds of the savanna as night falls on the Zambezi river.
The insect chorus becomes deafening as darkness falls. It's the rainy season and there is plenty of water and food for every creature. Gone are the quiet nights of the dry season. It's time for every insect to make their presence heard, and to try to overpower others by being louder. Occasionally a hippo, lion or hyena can be heard as well. They call once or twice and then go back to their nightly business of looking for food.
For me, the best part of this soundscape is the water element. The almost constant little movements in the river are worrying and reassuring at the same time. It wasn't easy to find a good location to capture a good balance between insect calls and water movements, mostly because of the many crocodiles and hippos who call the river their home. Fortunately I put in the work so you don't have to risk your limbs to experience these sounds.
