The fascinating sounds of Borneo's rainforest

- The rainforests of Borneo are full of amazing sounds.
Of all the tropical and equatorial rainforests I've visited, Borneo is probably the lushest and most beautiful sounding one. That's not to say that others like the Amazon, Congo, Sumatra etc are boring, far from it! Humid rainforests around the world harbour immense biodiversity and that can easily be heard in their soundscapes.
Having said that, something about Borneo's hillside rainforests makes them stand out among these awe-inspiring parts of our world. Far away from busy roads and population centres, there are pockets of wild jungle, remnants of a huge forest that has been evolving for hundreds of millions of years. Its age is second only to the NE Australian rainforests and on a different order of magnitude when compared to the Amazon or Congo jungles. It would seem like the age of an ecosystem makes a big difference in terms of biodiversity, and the soundscape is an accurate indicator of that.
On my expedition to Sabah in 2019 I had plenty of opportunity to immerse myself in the rainforest once I escaped the sterile and depressing plantation landscapes. Sadly the pockets of rainforest on the island are shrinking every year due to logging for oil palm plantations and slash-and-burn agriculture practices. I hope the rainforests of Borneo, Asia and the entire world can be preserved for future generations and that these soundscapes will still exist like they've done so for aeons.

I am so grateful to have been able to connect with you through the Internet. I admire and admire your work and passion.
After seeing your blog, I prepared an olympus ls-11 and a pair of clippy em272 microphones to try to record nature where I am. I wish you good luck as always, and thank you for allowing me to listen to your wonderful work.
Wow, thank you for the kind words. Hope you can get out there and record as much as you want.
Thank you George Vlad. I am very happy with this natural Kalimantan musical instrument, there I feel peace and calm ❤
This is actually Sabah and not Kalimnantan.

Thank you too!
Listening to your rainforest recording on a DT 770 Pro (250 OHM) headset. Delicious! Thank you. 🤗

Haha! Thank you Sir!
É muito bacana mesmo😊
Muito obrigado!
Love it man! Cheers
Appreciate it!
You don't mention anywhere what time of the day that is? I think it is more dusk than dawn? 🤔
You’re right, it’s late afternoon.
Hello George! You use one MKH 30 and two MKH 8040 for the double MS.
To decode double MS, do you use the double MS plugin from Shoeps? Or are you using another plugin?
That’s the one I’ve been using, but it’s a bit old and buggy.
@@GeorgeVlad OK thanks ! I also use it with Studio one. I imagine you are working on Pro tools
I use Reaper for DMS decoding and surround work.
@@GeorgeVlad OK ! I don't know if you knew this but studio one made an update. We can now mix in surround and also use Dolby Atmos!
@itachi__ Thanks. I’ve never used Studio one and I’m very comfortable with the software I use.
