    My expectations was super low going into this first issue because I'm pretty much burnt out from the Joker BUT I did enjoy it and it's good to see Silvestri again. The tone and the dialog and inner monologue of Batman really worked for me. Especially when he glided off the roof tops and flew over the cops. That got a good chuckle out of me. I hope this turns out to be good.

      @@sarkastikleader4708 Why would he need or want a fancy flat belt??? And it emphasizes his crotch. At least he doesn't have the bulge they have been drawing on all the characters at DC. I like pouches for early Batman, but I prefer it when they look more modern.
      The rest of the comic looks awesome and like a breath of fresh air though. It looks like an old school Batman comic before he was ruined by Morrison and King and others after Infinite Crisis in 2006. I don't think I bought a Batman comic after Dini's run in the 00s. I would buy this if I still went to the comic store. I love the thought boxes. We definately need them and thought balloons back.

  • @kaspercole7
    @kaspercole7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    I don't feel like the issue went by too quickly. The amazing art forced me to sit on each page and just enjoy the details in every panel. This makes me want to go to back issues and find everything Marc Silvestri did on Batman. I love the characterization and dialogue for every character in this issue. Please bring back Alfred full-time in the present DC universe. There were even some really good jokes that Batman makes in the story (doing a gliding fly-by on the dirty cops even knocking one of their tupees off; the Batman/Joker spit hand shake). John Romita Jr. could learn a thing or two about how to add extra lines/shading on characters' faces from Marc Silvestri. From my perspective DC is knocking it out of the park this week with Batman 129, Batman & The Joker 1, and Poison Ivy 6. Even though they churn out many misses, I love it when DC comes out with some gem issues all in one week!

    I remember hanging out with Eric Basaldua years ago at a Wizard convention and he talked about how Marc has always wanted to do a Batman run.
    I enjoyed this issue but I felt like you it was a shortened issue. Also, I really appreciated the small bit of him having a joint foundation for the damage done by Batman and law enforcement(Which will probably be a plot point later)for instance he doesn’t turn a blind eye to it nor not monitoring it. Unlike SGM’s version where he’s a hyper thyroid dolt not seeing what’s happening under his nose from his actions and the police.

    My big takeaway was Marc actually reads comics. Something I fail at expressing is, the character has to sound right. That's hard to nail down. And there are different interpretations, that's fine. Say Hal Jordan and Daredevil are fearless, but they are very different. Focus on that. Zack reviewed a DD comic a few days ago that Dennis O'Neil wrote Wolverine. And apparently it just sounded wrong. I got that. Dennis, for all his virtues, didn't understand darker characters. His Green Arrow was a jerk. But somehow that was fine. His Question was much more interesting. I think it was autobiographical in a way. Maybe cathartic. There was a short lived series of the Creeper where Batman is driving in a storm to go to Arkham. He thinks about the weight of his car, the handling, grip of the tires and water physics. You realize Batman doesn't like not being in full control. And subtlety is, that's the Creeper. Batman has one text bubble.He says "I hate the rain." They always say show don't tell, but this is both.
