He knew the level... He also knew his right arm is not to the level it was. He may have underestimated Sergei a little bit. Travis just needs more time to train. He also needs to get bigger!

@janindrektamm5233 but Travis at his best can compete with anyone imo right handed. He said he was only 60%. He just needs more time.

It has nothing to do with left or right arm. He just needs to prepare more seriously. His left isnt insane right now either, just because he beat Derek ...

It would be good to see. He didn't really manage his own expectations or even train properly. He lifted a bunch of weights but didn't do any real armwrestling preparations. Then went in against a still very good Brzenk and got dominated.
Alexey needs to have matches against some journeymen to get those connection points built back up, and more activity on the table in general. Can't just do armwrestling in the weight room.

    • @bruceleroy8063

He jumped right back in at a high level, with his weaker arm. At least now he understands the level. He's only been training seriously again for a short time. Despite his outward confidence going into this, he can't be more than 80 or 85% right now. I hope he doesn't quit and this just lights a fire under him again.

    • @A_Mystery_Man

It's interesting contemplating if the sport has gone to a brand new level from when Travis reigned, or if it's just Travis not being completely peaked.

@@A_Mystery_Man it's a different level now for sure. But that's sport, everyone generally keeps getting better over time until it's a well refined long standing sport where there's diminishing returns. Like Voevoda, they have just been away for too long. Weightlifting only gets you a fraction of the way there; it takes table time. It takes tearing and rebuilding the connection points in the joint tissue, as well as the tightness and elasticity.
It isn't that the sport progressed beyond them, just that they need to get their bodies back into armwrestling shape. And also take on some journeymen first to get some confidence back.
Travis's left at least kicked off with a win.
