Thank you for the video, it's very informative. I still have a few children at school and they really don't want to be there anymore. Going to juggle my wife and I working full time and home-schooling. You have given us a better idea of how to go about it. Cheers from the top end
Hi Marieka, thanks for your content. Do you have a video how you schedule the other resources around a unit study? Eg you do a gather round unit study for the term, how long do you dedicate to the unit study per day and then where do you fit the extras in? I'm getting my head around unit studies! Also i gather that you choose a unit study based on the WA curriculum outcomes so you would at some point cover HASS and Science outcomes in the years unit studies or supplement with read alouds like for Aus history etc? Thanks in advance!
You are welcome, thank you for watching and supporting my channel😊 I no longer use unit studies but when I was using them I would choose one unit study and do it for the whole term. The unit study would cover all the learning areas and I would just add in a few extra things. We would spend an hour to an hour and a half on the unit study and then add in one or two extra things after completing the unit study each day. The two other things would only take 40 mins to complete so we were doing about 2 to 2 and a half hours of work a day. The type of things I would add would be math (as math was no included in the unit study) and any extra work my children needed so if they needed extra writing practice then I would add that in or if I needed to add in extra Australian history stuff then I would add that in. You do not need to make sure they follow along exactly with the Aus curriculum. I hope that answer was helpful!
There are about to be a whole lot of people coming here to view this video ahead of 5-11 year old kids being mandated to take the mrna shots to go to school. A year of home-schooling to not have a child with myocarditis is absolutely worth it! Thanks for the information.
If you don't mind me asking. Do you have friends with kids who also do this that your kids can meet up with for social time? Or do you find that sport and normal hanging out with friends on weekends is enough?
We meet up with homeschool friends twice a week. We have a group that anyone who is homeschooling is welcome to join and we meet up every week at different playgrounds or beaches so that the children can play together and the mummas can chat together too. That group has a private facebook group and each time we meet a new homeschooler we just add them to the group and it has been slowly growing. We then have another group of 4 families who homeschool and we meet together once a week to do lessons together. These 4 families have become very close through this process and now we do a lot of family things together also. I have found the homeschool groups to be very beneficial
@@Mariekalake that is amazing. It's great that you have like minded friends and playmates for your kids. Thank you for the response. You seem to have everything sorted and your kids are very lucky 🙂
I do not think the Education Department minds if parents work and homeschool their children as long as they are meeting all of the education requirements
Oh how grateful I am I stumbled across this video! I have been going around in circles and this has just taken all the stress of scheduling and curriculum finding - thank you!!!
I really enjoyed hearing you talk through the process you go through for planning the year! You are very systematic and have clearly figured out what works to set your family up for a successful year of homeschool!
Hi, the bundle is from the last version of the curriculum (8.4) and the author of the bundle is going to be updating it but I’m not sure when that will be available
Welcome to the world of homeschooling! I hope your first year is going well. We do not use a specific program to teach languages. Languages only needs to be taught for grade 3 and 4 here in WA so we only study it when my children reach those grades. We have been learning German as we have German speaking friends and I also know a tiny bit. We checked books out of our local library and used TH-cam channels and found some worksheets online to use as well. If my kids were super keen to really learn to speak another language then I would invest in an online program but they are not too interested so i have not done that
Thank you 🙏🏻 So far we are just loving learning at home, it has taken a few different approaches to find what works best for us and I am happy to say ‘We are onto a good routine” (for now at least) I am also in WA and I was unaware Language was only required for years 3 & 4 so that does make it much easier to navigate. I actually thought it was for years 3-8. ( which is such a great variation in ages and sometimes hard to combine into 1 lesson for all the year groups) I love the kids learning through books so each day is at least a page from a couple different DK books.
Marieka you delivered again! Thanks so much for this video, even though I am in NSW, this has been so helpful- you have made things simpler and easier! This is my first year homeschooling, so glad I've discovered your channel!

Hello 👋 I am so glad that you found that helpful. It can be so confusing some times and I made my channel because I just want to help people on their homeschool journey so I’m glad it is helpful! Good luck on your homeschool journey and feel free to ask me any questions that you may have ❤️
Thanks for this video. Just wondering When you say “if I am not happy with a certain curriculum I will just change the curriculum” What does this mean? Sorry I am just very new and don’t know anything about homeschooling but would love to know more. So all these words seem a different language to me.
So curriculum is the course of study or the books that I am using to teach my children. For example I am using History Now books to teach my children Australian history. If I am not happy with using these books, so if we are not enjoying them or if they are too easy or too hard or not providing enough information then I will change it and use something else, so I will pick a different curriculum or books to teach Australian History.
What did you use for Australian History, government and the things you substituted that weren't part of your overall curriculum you where following? Do you have a video with help on finding good tools and sources.
I have a playlist that has videos about Australian history, geography, government etc which you may find helpful th-cam.com/play/PL7QeH3xGpZzjwM6_ZkzpXepcXTk2WTxRv.html

I absolutely loved this video and found it so helpful. Hoping I can get some guidance with this question... online, there is the Australian Curriculum, but there is also a state one for Queensland - which one do I use? Or both?

I was wondering about languages under the WA curriculum, I can't seem to find a scope & sequence for AUSLAN. If there's no scope how does the moderator assess/ evaluate your work? (Looking at starting homeschool kindy next year but wanted to get organised)
Teaching of a second language is not required until year 3. The moderator does not need to asses your work, they will just ask you if you taught a second language and what program you used and they may like to look at some progress work. Here is the link to the scope and sequence for all the languages. I hope this helps k10outline.scsa.wa.edu.au/home/teaching/curriculum-browser/languages

Hi, I am just about to register my twins for kindy homeschooling. How long is the assessment with the AP and how does it work since I started after the beginning of the year ?
Hello 😀 are you in Western Australia? If you are then you do not have to register for kindy (you can still do kindy at home of course but you don’t have to officially register) You only have to register when they are starting pre primary so when they are 6/7 years old. The amount of time to register is anyones guess at the moment as they are very busy as many new people are registering to homeschool due to this season of Covid times. But all you need to do is contact the education department for your district saying that you wish to register, they will send you out paperwork to fill out and send back. After they have received your paperwork they will send you a letter of approval. After that a moderator from the department will email you and set up a time to meet with you to go over the education plan you have put together for your children. You don’t have to wait to for letter of approval or moderator visit to begin homeschooling, you just start straight away. As soon as you have called the education department you can start (this is for WA of course)
