Yes i think some ports are just for embarking and disembarking. Not sure if you are allowed to get off. But at most of the major ports you should have plenty of time to look around, or join some of the expeditions.
The ship does do tours from Bergen to Kirkenes and back, visiting over 70 harbors in 12 days, while maintening a ferry kind of service, being 50% cruiseship and 50% cargovessel.
