Hey everyone! Today we are taking a hands-on look at the new 16-35mm f2.8 GMII lens from Sony. I am using this lens on the Sony A7IV for portrait photography and sharing with you 100% crops of the straight out of images so you can see the quality. I share the 16-35mm f2.8 GMII human autofocus performance, take a closeup look at the lens build, take a look at focus accuracy, sharpness, CA/fringing, bokeh and lens flare. Hi Julia, I just finished watching your video from 2 years ago regarding the Samyang 35mm. Speaking of image quality only, do you think there is a significant difference between this lens and the Samyang when using a Sony A7iii?
Is this worth the upgrade from the previous model ? 😮
Do you think it’s that significant of an upgrade over the v1? I am tempted based on weight and size alone.
In my opinion, this GM was the one that needed an update the LEAST. Older version is still fantastic. I’ll be upgrading based on weight alone.
To be honest, I haven't used the mark 1 in a looong time, so I would need to use it again and side by side to really see the difference. I think the biggest upgrades we're getting there though are physical, so the extra buttons/aperture ring and weight!
Is there a difference with the 35mm 1.4GM at 35mm? Thanks!

Yeah internal zoom would have been perfect!
FE PZ 16-35mm F4 G is an internal zoom design, but this comes at the cost of a lot of distortion at the wide end. With electronic corrections, this distortion is corrected (you can only see how bad it is by viewing a RAW file with no profile corrections - corrections are forced on for in-camera JPEG/HEIC/video). It is, however, no surprise that Sony chose a more conventional external zoom design for FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM II.
Are Sony 16-35 gm ii less focus breathing for video?

How are you recording your OSD?
Use a recording device on the HDMI port. You can select in the menus whether the HDMI output is a clean output or has all the overlays of the back screen.
I’ve been in the market for this lens and they just so happened to drop the II while I’ve been looking. This is the first video that actually showed me the lens for what it is versus click bait BS because Sony sent them the lens. It’s been ridiculous. I just want to know about the dang lens.

I prefer 85mm and beyond for portraits, I found everything below that range a little lack of character.
