Backup bees? | Create a resource hive.

  • We found a bunch of swarm cells in a few of our colonies. So we decided to make splits from one of them and populate our resource hive double nuc box with those splits.

    Hey Thomas, May I advise you not to ever shake queen cells, or a frame with a queen cell as she is easily damaged. (Referencing the last frame/queen cell you left in original hive) FYI: From day 9 the queen cells are capped and are VERY fragile in development until day 15. Moving cells before they are capped or at day 15 is best practice. IF in the future you find yourself in this same situation, you can gently brush the nurse bees off the frame but better yet, leave those nurse bees on the frame with the q cell and choose another frame of bees to shake into your splits.
