Welcome to the Free Range Art Farm! We keep bees, goats, and ducks on our little 10 acre farm.
I'm Thomas a 50 plus software engineer who loves to work with his hands. My wife Lulu is the artist. She and I live on a bit over 10 acres in Northern Virginia. We have a dog, a cat, 10 ducks, and a couple of Nigerian Dwarf Goats. We moved to the country in the fall of 2018 and are slowly building out our homestead. We are also potters and I like work on and restore old cars.

Extracting honey with my new uncapping tool.
I bought a new uncapping tool from Dadant while at the EAS conference and wanted to see what I thought. Overall, I think it was ok. Not as fast as using a knife, but quicker than my old uncapping fork.

Swarm was too big for the trap! What now?

When I checked this trap I couldn't tell if the girls were moving in or had decided to move out. They weren't entering the trap as quickly as bees usually do. So, I had to take things in to my own hands and hopefully I fixed it.
