As a Samoan, I feel so much sadness for my native Hawaiian brothers and sisters. Their Identity has been completely tarnished by colonization. Samoa organized peaceful resistance protest back in the 1920s to fight for their independence, one of the first countries to perform non-violent movement before Gandhi and before Martin Luther king. They were eventually granted Independence in 1962 and Samoa is still as pure as can be, with 70% of it's land preserved under it's constitution and overseas investors can't buy property but can enter long-term leaseholds of upto 50 years, so that custom ownership is maintained by the local people. My prayers go out to the Maoli people.

@@Navigator_IsleTHIS is the comment I was looking for ❤❤❤ I AM WITH YOU! I happen to share skin color with the colonizers but I have been working really hard to learn the history and SEE the oppression and understand all the problems related to and created by that....and I'm not trying to pat myself on the back or butt-in where I dont belong, but to back up your point I UNDERSTAND AND AGREE WITH YOUR ANGER SO MUCH it pisses me off to see this centuries-long genocide on the indigenous people of the Hawaiian Islands just keep going and going and going while being ignored!!! Any random person WITH A BRAIN who simply cares for other people can see how unimaginably cruel and greedy the whole situation has been. I've been paying attention to the people that live in Lahaina (especially the ones that were caught in the fire on Front Street in those cars that were left days after, the ones who had to jump into the ocean just to not get cooked alive, And the people who own property that was scorched, those who were forcibly evicted against their will, whose property is now being bought up cheaply by capitalist corporations like Black Rock)... I'm not saying anybody started the fire or planned it, but I am saying what has happened since then is incredibly nefarious and goes against the basic principles of human nature. We can't say that this course of action wasn't planned out and decided upon before the fire happened.. and that in itself deserves at least investigation and some statements from a large cross-section of residents. I am shocked at how little follow-up reporting has been spread around the country after this.

I am 99% certain I know this guy and became good friends when I lived on Maui for about 6 months. Technically I was homeless but was invited over with a job lined up working construction with my dad. Got to camp on the job site in tents sorta as security for one. Plus not really any excuse to not show up to work lol. Was about 14 years ago....
This is the weirdest thing starting to go thru this channel and I see a close friend from over a decade ago in a different state lol. He is the realest of the real. I dont wanna mess with his privacy telling much about him but you are right on the money with the kinda guy he is. Has seen and done some absolutely crazy stuff in his life. He is right there when you need him too. He has a weird 6th sense about stuff about to unfold. Or people you need to watch out for. I would REALLY LOVE TO KNOW , which of the "compassionate" Sanctuary Cities lied to those poor souls snd sent them there ON S ONE - WAY TICKET !!!!!! Funny those so called "Sanctuary Cities" were so PUBLIC in their initial announcements that they had the compassion the right leaning areas lacked . That "concern gor fellow humans very quickly disappeared as soon as the downtrodden showed up in town . Many have and continue to quietly try to round them up and bus (or fly in this case ) them to unwitting cities that have never espoused to be sanctuary . Trouble is sure to begin , but the left cities coudn't care less , it"s no longer their problem (although they were a huge part of the cause) . The Sanctuary Cities dont seem to be as public about the dirty tricks they pull to shirk the aid they professed ready to dole out !!!!!! SHAME ON THEM !!!!!!

Lowkey that's actually how most of the homeless end up on the West coast in general. Mostly Republican states pack up their most troublesome homeless and bus them to LA or Portland with $100 Subway gift cards & the general understanding that west coast blue states will be more humane to them (which is true), but it overwhelms our systems. In Portland it was all of 5 years before we went from handling the situation somewhat to being completely & totally overwhelmed with an influx of severely mentally ill people from states like Texas, Utah etc.

I'm a pharmacist working in Honolulu and the amount of homelessness, drug-addicted, and mentally ill folks is making it scarier to just walk on the street. I regularly get people from that park (and others) walking in and asking for OTC treatments for 'nano-machines under the skin/CIA trackers/any other schizo paranoia thing you can think of. Also a lot of scabies treatment requests, or any SSTI treatments, etc.
Thanks for making this video. In pharmacy there's already extremely strict state+federal laws and regulations around the dispensing of controlled substances i.e. fentanyl/other opioids. Dealers must be getting their supply from other countries illegally imo.

Ephesians 6:10-18 says, Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. The bible is no old book. You have to really let Christ open your eyes; to see the world in shambles. Many people say it's a religion to lock up people in chains, and say it's a rule book.. why? Because people hate hearing the truth, it hurts their flesh, it's hurts their pride, it's exposes on what things have they done..people love this world so much, s*x, money, power, women, supercars.. things of this world. Still trying to find something that can fill that emptiness in your heart. You can't find that in this world.. only in Christ, the bible is no chains, it's a chainbreaker. Breaking your sins into pieces... Repent now, and turn back to the true Lord only.. God bless.

Man when that dog ran in the hotel room and hopped on the bed rolling around with pure joy. I honestly started to tear up. Like the pup was happy that she and her human has a safe comfortable place to sleep tonight. That’s just awesome. I salute Tyler and Kevin for helping her have a place to sleep that night before her going into a shelter. That was so awesome and a really compassionate thing for them to do. I mean they could just walked on and wished her luck but they helped her out and paid for a room for her to sleep in for the night. They are good dudes man. It usually takes a lot for me to subscribe to a content creator’s channel because a lot of the time they turn out to be fake AF in the long run but after watching a handful of your video’s especially on raising awareness with the homeless and drug epidemic and doing it in a respectful manner. Getting information and conducting interviews while showing these individuals a level of respect, dignity, and empathy. I have decided to subscribe. Keep up the good work Tyler and Kevin ❤️.
Side Note: I know the woman said that she was going in a shelter the next day. But from personal experience I know that a lot of shelters don’t allow you to bring animals with you. With that said I’m curious if this particular shelter she is going to is going to allow her to bring her pet. Because if they don’t she might decide not to go which would be awful but at the same time understandable because if I was her I wouldn’t want to abandon my dog/ the only companion that has been by my side through all my suffering either. Idk I hope that she is allowed to bring her puppy with her because it would be really traumatic for her to be separated from her owner and put in a dog shelter/pound or possibly left behind to fend for herself. But like I said I don’t believe the woman would stand by and allow that to happen. She seems to love the dog very much. Either way I will pray for both of them to be safe and happy and find peace & safety in their lives.

My kids and I lost everything in a fire, and became homeless in the blink of an eye. It was so incredibly tough. I didn't have renters insurance, so everything was just gone. I have always worked 2 jobs, but it isn't easy having to replace everything at once. I thank God, I had family to lean on. It took me a good year to get back on my feet and replace what items we lost in the fire. My children and I would have been out on the streets if it weren't for my siblings.
I don't think the general public realizes how quickly a person could become homeless, and once homeless, how hard it is to get back on your feet. Most long-term homeless people have either mental illness, drug addiction, or both. As a nation, we need effective treatments for these conditions in order to make an effective change to decrease homelessness. A different approach is needed, as the current approach is failing miserably. No human should have to live like this.

I'm born and raised on Kauai and homelessness has always been a big problem. When I was younger I used to walk and take the bus to get to where I was going and sometimes would get into conversations with the homeless uncles and aunties that were sitting and waiting for the bus. A lot of them used to tell us as teens that they were flown in from a different state and promised a job.
The problem only got worse to the point that at the age of 16 I didn't really see them on the streets or parks but down in the alleyways we would use as shortcuts or in the bushes on the side of the main highway. They were just pushed out of our parks and into the wilderness to where it was basically out of sight out of mind for our county.

After 35 years of leaving Hawaii as a kid, I went back to see my best friend to say goodbye for the last time before he passed from cancer. How Oahu has grown is insane. The only local areas I could recognize from the air was Electric beach prior to landing. My experience with the locals this trip was that they where actually much friendlier from when I lived there as a kid. I did work there for a summer on the Waianae side when I was 16 on a ranch with my buddy. Anyway traffic, growth and the poverty had exploded since then. Over on the Waianae side we used to pick up a guy who worked with us from one of the shanty towns that was made of tarps and pallets in the morning before we got to the ranch so it was there but now most of Waianae has homeless encampments from Nanakuli to Kaena point. Found a house for sale... 1200 sq. ft, no real front door, windows where hinged boards, eves falling down, front porch missing some boards... $660,000!! I have no idea how anyone makes a living over there.

U have to know wer to go and who to talk with...like 8 said u need to established there. If u don't have family there it's no good. Locals r very family oriented. Also drugs r a big problem there for locals. So these people come there and they r on drugs too so it makes it harder for locals already burdened w addiction. Drugs is wat really ruined Hawaii. I grew up on the small populated island of Kauai from 11 to 22. Homelessness wasn't huge, but definitely a lot bigger than most people knew. I knew a few people who were shipped out. Some states basically deport the homeless or send them to jail. Many take the plane ticket and "job opportunities" not realizing that they are being lied to. For the locals, a lot of it stems from knowing so many people on the islands. Hawaii as a whole is pretty tightly knit in comparison to other states and even many other countries. Hawaiian families and friends are HUGE! I worked at the Kauai Costco and 85% of the island at the time had a costco membership. I saw everybody; friends, exes, bullies, tourists. All of it. Hawaii is beautiful, but it's too easy to feel stuck, too easy to be caught up in drama. Everyone knows everyone. Anything that you have done or has happened to you, a large amount of the island will know about it. The "coconut wireless" as some used to call it. Seeing your exes at 1 of the 4 places to buy food, the cost of living, modern society in general, the pandemic (that struck tourist areas like hawaii very hard), it's no wonder there are so many falling into drugs (most specifically meth) and just feeling like goving up. Add that a lot of locals really just aren't as educated and not as world traveled (far away from other places, and hawaii is already "paradise"), it all adds up. Every which way it's a struggle. I wasn't even close to homeless, and I love Hawaii with all my soul. It's the place this haole boy calls home. But man I just had to get out of there and actual find a place to make new experiences. Hawaii really starts to feel like the same old, especially on the smaller populated islands. For nature it's awesome, but for indoor/social activities not involving nature, it's usually few and far between (and any that there are you'll see all the people you know. You ain't meeting any new people at a bar, unless it's a tourist or someone who moved from another island).
It's fucked. Hawaii really just can't catch a break

Thank you for showing this side of homelessness on O'ahu. I drive past these encampments everyday but you folks are brave to even avail yourself to talk to the people and even help someone. Way to go! I hope our state of Hawai'i sees this and makes urgent changes for our land and people. It's so sad, but we need to do better Hawai'i. Righteousness shall prevail! Mahalo Nui!

Oh my god when she said she didn’t have food for her dog and teared up that hit. I know she probably had even less for her but her main concern was getting her pup fed. Thank you for helping those you can and bringing awareness to those lost souls most see and treat as less then.

And I'm betting that she used the last of her resources to feed the dog before herself, too. Seen that in Puerto Rico 😢

That part made me choke up too… and after that I kept thinking to myself, “I hope they give her money for dog food and food for herself”.. and they didn’t disappoint! As someone who spent MANY days and nights homeless on the streets of NYC, on and off for years, through blazing hot summers and freezing cold winters, I know all too well exactly what she was feeling, when she was talking about wanting to end her life and just wanting to be happy again.. I wouldn’t wish homelessness on anyone. Same goes for addiction, which unfortunately was the reason why my life became so hellish in the first place. Thankfully that sh!t is several years behind me and I’m never looking back. I empathize with all of these people, whether they got where they are due to addiction, mental illness, financial hardship, etc.. but I feel ESPECIALLY bad for people like her, who are homeless because of circumstances that were completely out of their control, like the wildfires for example. Shame on the government for making those poor victims of the devastation caused by the fire, jump through hoops and endure MORE HELL, by leaving them to tough it out on the streets while they lackadaisically find them shelter. The government really handled that whole situation horribly. What else is new?! Anyway, sorry for the long rant. I hope the woman and her pup are doing much better.. I hope she found some joy in life again.

I’ve worked in LA’s animal shelter and we typically have homeless people that go in to do food for their dogs. Some of the best dog owners are homeless people.

She looked more than well fed though herself .Bordering on obese i would say .The dog is the only innocent party there.I was also taken by his reaction to the bed .
