Excellent tutorial, thank you....I have been sewing for 60 years and only use cloth napkins...my granddaughters when they get married they always ask for cloth napkins and napkin rings for wedding gifts..I have just finished 7 legacy wedding gift boxes for my grands that are not married (Iam 77 years old and went ahead and made all of them cloth napkins for all 3seasons plus 4th of July with napkin rings, several reversible table runners and a set of my own personal candlesticks... just love leaving them this legacy to remember me by...
What a wonderful treasure they will have! We're glad you enjoy this project tutorial and we hope you're around for your grands to enjoy their napkins ❤️ -Michelle
This is a great idea and I think I could use it for my pillow cases with the soft sheeting fabric I have. That way I won't have to use two pillow cases for each pillow and they will be reversable. I'm going to try it. Thanks!
I love your videos. I’m a beginning sewer and I appreciate all the steps being shown and your patience of making the steps clear, even though it is probably such a simple task for you. 🙂
Thank you for this video. I love all the videos you have made (well, all that I have watched, anyway). You have such a wonderful manner about you and you make every project fun. Thank you for the clear directions. Thanks to the camera operator also. Great close-ups! They really help!
Love this, I have fall fabric I was wanting to do this with a couple years ago now I am for sure going to get into my stash and use this idea. It's exactly what I wanted and a more formal finish with the top stitch than the rolled him I could use. I just love the more tailored finish. Thank you Blessings
I got the coffee Place mat and Napkin set which I love, I did struggle a bit with the 1/8" seam around the napkins. Maybe just be me and a lack of skill though.
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment! We're so happy to have you. The chopstick method is one of the best. Let us know how your projects go! - Morgan
HI JENNIFER! I LOVE your tutorials! I'm currently doing Christmas Stocking tutorials on my channel and I'm always looking to try a new DIY project! Thanks for sharing!
They are stunning! Happy that you love them! Wash on a gentle cycle, then you may want to iron them to reshape after you dry them. Thanks for your comment! - Abby
Hi Tammy- We do apologize for the inconvenience of being unable to view that video. The placemats and coasters pictured use a 2.5" strip roll. The technique is the same as shown in our Slice Rug video here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/free-downloads-and-video/77/how-to-make-a-slice-rug After your desired strips are sewn, just measure out the length/width you'd like, and trim the piece(s), then bind it. Hope that helps! 💖 -Michelle
@@ShabbyFabrics it does in a way but when the two strips meet in the middle how do you sew them together and if they're not meeting in the middle then your binding three sides of it correct
@@tammydewey113 Hi Tammy, I don't quite understand your question. Can you please clarify, or give us the video timestamp as a point of reference to your question? There are no strips are meeting in the middle. They're all parallel to each other with raw edges on the left and right ends, and finished edged on the top and bottom. The left and right sides are then bound following the same method in the slice rug video. Hope this makes sense! 💖 -Michelle
@@ShabbyFabrics Thank you so much Michelle for responding back to my comments I appreciate that. I will try and email the support group and address it to you if that's okay
When you said you were using two different fabrics, it seemed that you meant the fabric itself. The red fabric looks like something other than cotton. I love that red fabric because its is so shinny. What is the name of that pattern?
Hi Donna! Jen just meant that she used two designs from the same collection. That red fabric is from the Poinsettia & Pine Collection by Maywood Studio. It's Poinsettia & Pine 9126-R Elegant Scrolls by Maywood Studio. We're getting more of that fabric soon in case you're interested in getting some. It's also available in the FQ set of that collection. - Morgan
Hi Sue. We always use the dual feed system on the Bernina when we're piecing because it helps move the two layers of fabric evenly through the machine. - Morgan
If you were going to serge the edges to prevent fraying, would you do each layer prior to the first sew so that serged edge was inside? Or would you do it instead of or in addition to top stitching? (Or would you skip it entirely?)
Hi Judy! We don't typically wash fabric before sewing with it, because we haven't found it to make much of a difference, but you certainly can if you'd like. It won't hurt. - Morgan
Hello! We do not recommend washing your fabrics before sewing as it can cause shrinkage which would then effect the measurements for your project! Let us know if you have any other questions! Stay safe and happy sewing! ~Leah

I know it’s a bit time consuming, but I reinforce my corners so that the seams do not rip open when I push them out with my chopstick.

What are the dimensions, and what type of fabrics can we use?
We use cotton fabrics, and you can make the napkins any size. Ours measure approximately 17½" x 17½". - Morgan
I drape the napkin over a broom stick. It works well.
